Standard disclaimer, blah, blah blah.

I think it should be noted that after the war between the colonies and the Earth no United Earth Sphere Alliance or whatever was formed, though peace was declared. In this story the creation of the Terran Organization is in the process of being formed, and this organization deals with everything from trade to interstellar law which is why it is taking so long to nail it down.

By the way sometimes someone is thinking and talking and / will denote thinking.

Part 2

Relena sat in the darkness of her cell trying to figure out a way to stop Aya from throwing the human race into war once again. Though she had only spoken with Aya for about 20 minutes that was all Relena had needed to see that Aya was quite mad. While Dorothy was obsessed with meaningful battles, Aya was simply obsessed with war and destruction. Unfortunately while boarding on the insane, Aya was incredibly brilliant and had been orchestrating her life for sometime. Relena sighed, "Heero, I want to blame you for this, but I know I can't."

After the defeat of Trieze's daughter Relena had thought that life for everyone would be better, but she was only partly right. The world did start moving towards peace, and with no more missions to run off to, she thought that she would finally be able to spend sometime with Heero. She had made her feelings for him fairly clear, though he had never clearly reciprocated them, she had been positive that there was something there. She didn't just base this assumption on the fact that he had never been able to "destroy her" as he had once told her, it was something else. He was always there for her in a way the other Gundam pilots weren't. Relena had carried on with her work and patiently nursed Heero back to health from the physical and mental exhaustion that he had been labouring under for so long. Returning from a lecture one night she had found a note waiting for her:

Relena,

There's something I have to take care of.

Thank You,

Heero

At first she had been devastated, then she had been angry. Finally she had accepted that Heero had to find his place in this new peaceful world. Being a soldier with no wars to fight could change how a man feels about himself. As the time continued to pass with no word from Heero, acceptance faded and feelings of rejection and loneliness set in, and still hadn't left. Finally Relena convinced herself that she had been wrong about Heero's feelings for her, she was alone. Yet still she had her work. She had actually hoped the human race would no longer require her to preach the merits of a peaceful existence anymore, but there were always small squabbles to mediate, and then more importantly to bring the people of the earth and the colonies together again. At first the initial relief of the end of war seemed to bring the Earth and Colony peoples together naturally, but as the relief wore off, the bickering started again. Relena wasn't about to let peace slip away when there was a chance it could be restored, and so the Terran Organization was created where one wasn't a citizen of the world or of the colonies, but of the universe. With all the busyness and stress of the creation of this new organization Relena still had time to be lonely, and that is when she met Kianu.

Relena had been having quite the bad day. It was 6pm and she was heading back to the office after a particularly bad set of talks with the colonies, when suddenly she was stopped in her tracks by a young man who was also walking towards her office, "Heero!" she cried and dropped all of her files. The young man turned around to face her and he was definitely not Heero, yet there was a refined quality about him that Relena had mistaken for Heero. Relena knelt down to gather her things, "I'm sorry, I must have mistaken you for someone else." The young man walked towards her and helped her with her files, "That's quite alright. You're Relena Peacecraft aren't you? I was coming here to see you, though I wasn't optimistic that I would still find you in the office." Relena laughed, "Well, I'm a dedicated worker. Why have you been looking for me?" The young man and Relena stood and he held out his hand to her, "My name is Kianu Leigh, here are my papers. The Earth Sphere has assigned me to you as your assistant. As my first assignment let me take these for you." Relena laughed and handed over her files as well as taking Kianu's papers, "Thank you." She read over Kianu's papers as he escorted her inside. "Why has the Earth Sphere assigned you to me?", she asked. "Well partly for your protection, but obviously your quite busy and I'm to relieve you of some of your beaocratic duties." Relena was slightly dismayed; "Do they think I'm incapable of handling my responsibilities?" Kianu was quick to reassure her, "Oh no Miss Peacecraft, the Earth Sphere just wants to ensure that you can focus completely on the Terran Organization. Everyone realizes what a momentous event this could be, and everyone wants this to succeed. I have to say I have admired your work for sometime."

In the weeks that followed Relena grew to trust Kianu and consider him a close friend. They worked closely together and he often escorted her to official and unofficial functions. Working late alone, they often engaged in deep conversations and one night Kianu addressed their first meeting. "When I first met you, you called Heero. You were so disappointed to find I wasn't him I assumed he was someone close to you, but I've never seen him. In fact I don't think you've mentioned him since." Relena looked down, a little uncomfortable with the conversation, "Heero was special to me, but … I don't think the feeling was mutual. He had something he had to take care of … it's complicated." Kianu was silent for a moment and then he took Relena's hand, "What could be so complicated? If someone as special as you felt that way about me, there is nothing I wouldn't do to keep things that way." The intensely sincere way that he said this made Relena blush, he was so forthright, honest and determined, so like Heero but with a little of the feeling that she always wished Heero had. "Kianu …" Kianu dropped Relena's hand, suddenly embarrassed, "I'm sorry. It's just that I can't stand the thought of anyone hurting you, and I can see he has." Relena looked down, "You mustn't misunderstand me, Heero is really an amazing man--". Kianu held up his hands, cutting Relena off, "Please say no more, I spoke out of turn, it wasn't my place." Kianu stood up; "Perhaps it would be best if I escorted you home now." Relena stood and put her hand on Kianu's arm. "Please don't feel you need to censor what you say around me, you're not just my assistant, I consider you a good friend."

From that night on their relationship continued to grow. Relena started trusting Kianu completely though she wondered if some of that trust wasn't based on his resemblance to Heero. She greatly appreciated his adeptness in mediating disputes, and she handed over the daily run of her office to Kianu. Though their relationship was so open, neither of them spoke of what had passed between them that one night until a couple of weeks later when Kianu approached her and nervously said, "I've been meaning to talk with you about something for a while now. This may be forward of me, but I was wondering if you would join me at my apartment tonight for supper?" Startled, Relena stumbled for something to say, she was aware of the increasing tension that was rising between them, but was unsure on how to handle it. Seeing her embarrassment Kianu quickly retracted the offer, "It was forward, please forget I asked." /What is wrong with me?/ Relena thought, and then "Oh no Kianu, please, I would love to have supper with you tonight." Kianu's entire aura brightened, "Is 7:00 alright?" Relena smiled, "That's fine. I'll see you then."

6:00 that night Relena sat at her dressing table staring into the mirror. She had taken special care when getting ready tonight and now she sat staring into the mirror wondering why. "What is this all about Relena? Have you given up on him finally? Are you really moving on?" Her reflection could offer no answer to these questions. A moment more of silence and she answered her own questions, anger stirred within her, "Of course your moving on, it's been 5 years! 5 years of waiting for him to come back, 5 years of hoping for the slightest word that he still existed and nothing!" Relena was standing, brought to her feet by her anger and watched her reflection as a single tear rolled down her check. Relena sat down, "Tonight will be different. Tonight I will erase the last imprint of Heero Yuy on my soul, and start anew." she vowed.

Supper was wonderful, and while the dinner conversation between the two was clever and engaging it was also uneasy on both parts. Both of them were a little nervous, Relena especially, /Why is it that I have no problem going head to head with any World or Colony leader, but when it comes to a man I act like some silly school girl?/. After the meal Kianu brought out coffee, "Why don't we take this in the living room?" Relena followed Kianu into the other room and sat down next to him, taking the drink he offered. For a moment both of them sat there silently sipping on their drinks and then Kianu laughed nervously. He put down his cup and took Relena's and placed it on the table, then took both of her hands into his. "I'm sorry," he said, "It's just so silly of me, sitting here all nervous … when this is exactly what I've wanted for so long." Relena looked down at his hands clasping hers and told herself, /This is right, this is absolutely right./ Gently Kianu raised one of his hands to Relena's face, softly pushing back a stray hair and then caressing her cheek. "I know an inter office relationship is frowned upon, so I'm resigning my position in your office tomorrow. I can't stand working with you everyday, seeing you and not telling you how I feel." Relena was captured by Kianu's soft touch and intense cobalt eyes, so when he leaned towards her Relena closed her eyes and welcomed Kianu's gentle but insistent lips. When they finally parted Relena stared into Kianu's eyes and felt her head reeling. She couldn't catch her breath, /Was it his kiss?/ and when she tried to stand she fell back down onto the couch. She watched Kianu's eyes fill with concern, and she reached out for him, "Kianu …", and then nothing but blackness.

Relena woke up with a start feeling the cold cement bench beneath her. Reminiscing over the past few months she had fallen asleep, but something had woken her, some noise. The squeaky hinges of her cell were gone, as when the latch of the door was pulled back there was barely a sound as the door slowly creaked open. Relena stood, ready to do verbal battle with whoever was on the otherside of that door, and then gasped in surprise as her visitor was revealed, "Heero!" Heero stood in the open doorway, calm and completely composed, he answered in his standard noncommittal monotone, "Relena." The click of a trigger being raised was the next thing to be heard, and though Heero immediately wheeled around to face his opponent there was nothing he could do about 3 guards, 2 holding their guns trained on him, and one on Relena. The click-clicking of heels filled the silence and Aya Catalonia appeared in front of both of them, "Ah, Mr. Yuy, I thought you might be visiting us."

To be continued…

Done for now, and of course comments and criticisms are welcomed at jaimelynn1978@yahoo.com , they can help me improve. Sorry for all you Relena haters out there, I know this chapter dealt mainly with her, but I think she has gotten a bad rap and I needed to explain some stuff.
