AC 202

Part 3

Aya looked from Heero to Relena, "Miss Relena I promise I won't keep you two from your reunion for very long, I just want to speak with Mr. Yuy for a moment." Before Relena could say a word her door was slammed shut and the sounds of Aya and her entourage moved down the hallway. Relena rushed towards the door and leaned upon it. She clenched her jaw shut to keep herself from crying out to Heero. He had come for her, and now he had gotten caught and put himself in danger because of her. Somehow the whole situation made her angry and she slammed her fist upon the door. "No word from him in 5 years but as soon as I find myself in danger he magically appears. If I had known that maybe I would have staged something like this years ago when I still cared about him." /Oh so you don't care about him anymore? Why are you so angry then?/ Relena was a little shocked by this unbidden thought but quickly brushed it aside. "Naturally I might feel something after seeing him again after all this time, but that's just because I was never able to bring things to a close with him. It doesn't matter; I'll never allow him to bring out that naïve, lovesick little girl in me again. She is dead."

Heero heard a thud coming from Relena's cell, /I hope she didn't faint./ he thought, though he never took his eyes off of Aya's back. She was almost an exact replica of Dorothy but younger, shorter and her blond hair was only shoulder length. Aya stopped in front of a room and gestured for Heero to enter. He did so followed by Aya and her guards. The room was a kind of conference room with large vid screens and a round table covered in a space map. Aya took a seat at the table and offered one to Heero who ignored her. Aya smiled, "Very well Mr. Yuy, you can stand it's all the same to me. I'm glad you're here, it will save me the time of trying to find you. You see I need your help." Heero remained blank, so Aya continued. "You are a Gundam pilot, a hero to all of the colonies. You and your Gundam signify resistance and colony unification. I want you to join me and fight with the Colony Alliance for our independence from the Earth." Heero sat down, " Why do you have Relena? What does she have to do with colony independence?" Aya smiled, "She is the last link to the Earth that the colonies are afraid to let go of. She speaks of peace and unification of all humans, but lets be honest, this Terran Organization of hers is just another way for the Earth to subjugate the colonies. No disrespect Mr. Yuy, I know you two are friends, and perhaps she doesn't even realize that the Earth Sphere is using her, but I can't allow the Earth and the colonies to repeat the mistakes of the past. Fight with us Mr. Yuy, help us make the colonies strong again!" Heero stood up, "I've heard enough. Your resistance is meaningless. The colonies have no reason to fight the Earth. This fear you have of the colonies being subjugated by the Earth is simply paranoia. I only hope it is unintentional on your part." Aya stood to face Heero and leaned towards him angrily, "It is not simply paranoia! The colonies are in danger, and I will lead them to freedom! The Terran Organization is a joke, a ruse to use the colonies; it's only a matter of time before the colonies people see this. Then they will turn to me to help them, and you if you join me." Heero folded his arms, he was immovable, "I hope you see the meaninglessness of this endeavor before any lives are lost. Their blood will be on your hands." Aya smiled again, she had lost her cool a moment ago, but she had now regained her composure. "Lucky for you I'm not ready to give up on you yet or I would kill you now. I think I'll give you another chance and let Wufei talk to you, maybe he can help you see." Heero raised an eyebrow; "You've managed to sway Wufei? Hn, I guess he still hasn't found his way. When he realizes he is being used he will kill you, woman or no." Aya smirked, "Wufei is a true soldier, maybe he will rejuvenate the soldier in you. Guards, take him back to the cell we found him at. Oh, and Heero give Relena this message…"

Duo walked into his house with his arms full of Chinese takeout and slammed the door, "Hilde! I'm home, comin get it!" He walked into the living room to find Hilde glued to the vidscreen, "Shh Duo! I'm watching something important!" Duo shrugged, "Well I guess I'll just have to eat all of this food myself." Hilde held out her arm and motioned Duo closer, "Duo! Food now!" Duo brought the food over to the couch, "Sheesh, OK I was just kidding. What's so interesting anyway?" The show Hilde was watching came to a close and she took some food from Duo, "It's about the Terran Organization talks. This new guy who replaced Relena seems like a real jerk. They're talking about the trade agreements and Allen Nafel is demanding that the colonies supply the Earth Sphere with a lot of Gundanium every year. Obviously the colony leaders wanted to know why and the short story is he wouldn't tell them!" Duo paused the shoveling of food into his mouth, "Gundanium? I wonder what the Earth Sphere wants with that? Oh well, let's see if there's some basketball on." Hilde stopped eating and slapped Duo on the shoulder, "Duo, this is serious. Maybe Wufei was right and something is going on." Duo dropped his chopsticks, "Oh no, look Hilde, Wufei was way off, still is, don't you go thinking there was a grain of truth in anything he had to say." Hilde frowned, "I can think for myself you know. I don't think you've been paying attention. The Earth Sphere is getting more and more demanding of the colonies and at some point this whole Terran Organization is going up in smoke. If they keep pushing us, at some point we're going to have to push back!" Duo almost choked on his rice, "Us? Who's this us? You are reading far too much into this Hilde, the Colonies and the Earth maybe disagreeing right now but that doesn't mean it's time to break out the mobile suits!" Hilde glared at Duo, "Maybe it is, maybe we should shut them down before they have a chance to hurt the colonies. We should make a preemptive strike!" Duo grabbed Hilde by the shoulders, "Look I don't know what all this we and us talk is about, but would you listen to yourself? You sound nuts! This is no reason to go to war Hilde! Where are you getting all this from?" Hilde stood up, "This is probably just the beginning, it's just what Wufei said would happen." Duo got very quiet, "Wufei?" Hilde ran a hand through her hair, nervously pushing back her unruly bangs, "Yah Wufei. He called here again looking for you and we got to talking. Maybe you should listen to him Duo, he makes sense." Duo stood up slowly and faced Hilde, "Just how many times have you guys talked?" Hilde looked down, "Well, um I'm not sure, maybe 5 or 6 times?" Duo's hands balled into fists and he hissed, "Yes I think I should talk to Wufei, and tell him to stay away from you." Hilde looked back at Duo, her eyes filling with anger, "I can take care of myself and I'll talk to whomever I please! I'll tell you something else Duo Maxwell, I don't need you to take care of me, or protect me! I am this close to joining the Colony Alliance and leaving all of this behind! You're the only thing holding me back!" Duo turned away from Hilde laughing mirthlessly, "Hilde, what are you trying to prove? That you're as gullible as Wufei? This is ridiculous! You're not joining the stupid CA and I'm not talking about this anymore!" Duo stalked off through the living room and slammed the front door shut behind him. He needed to get out of there, and away from Hilde who had just gone nuts! /Am I wrong here? I mean am I losing my touch and the colonies really do need me?/ Duo laughed, /Of course not, some fools are just never happy with peace. I haven't lost anything, and neither has Deathscythe. As soon as Wufei makes his move, he's going to find that out./ Duo continued walking aimlessly with his hands stuffed deep into his pockets. He needed to calm down before he could face Hilde again and calmly and logically talk some sense into her.

Hilde stared at the recently slammed front door as though Duo hadn't really left. She was furious, "I can't believe him! Where does he get off telling me what I can do and what I should believe in?" Hilde ran to her room and grabbed a bag. She walked around the apartment quickly packing, "All I ever wanted was to fight alongside him, but he never believes in me." Hilde said to the empty room while fighting back the tears that threatened to come. Her anger was fading and now a deep hurt was replacing it. She was tired of Duo thinking of her as some weak girl who couldn't stand up for herself. She did have a lot to prove to him, especially after needing him to come rescue her after escaping from Libra. She didn't really want his help, she had been trying to fight with him in her own way without his assistance and while she had succeeded in her mission, she hadn't been able to do it with out his help. That wasn't all though, she needed to prove something to herself. She looked around the apartment seeing if she had missed anything and then wrote a hasty note. She was on her way out the door when she stopped; realizing that Wufei probably wouldn't be pleased if she arrived empty handed. She turned around and walked out into the back scrap yard knowing she had no reached the point of no return and welcoming the surge of adrenaline that came with that realization.

Duo returned home to find the front door locked. He opened it and walked in ready to apologize to Hilde for being so harsh with her and ready to convince her of the evils of the Colony Alliance. The house was dark and had a distinctly empty feeling about it. "Oh no Hilde." Duo said as he spotted the note on the kitchen table. He didn't need to read it to know where she was going and whom she would be with. "This is all Wufei's fault!" Duo walked over to Hilde's laptop and called up the past calls she had taken from an 'unknown caller'. Scanning the calls his blood drained from his face as he listened to the last call and Wufei's spiel for the CA. Duo jumped up and ran to the back scrap yard though he already knew what he would find. The camouflage that Deathscythe had been covered in had been moved aside and his Gundam was gone. Duo filled with rage, he couldn't believe Hilde had betrayed him like this. Duo looked up at the sky and made a promise to Hilde that he knew he would never break. "You wanted me a part of this Hilde, well now I'm a part of it. You should beware what you wish for."
