1. Josias Jansz1 Drake was born Abt. 1660 in of Amsterdam, Holland, and died 1701 in Newtown, Long Island, NY. He married Aeltje Adams Brouwer 30 April 1682 in "Gowanus," Brucklyn, (later Kings Co., NY) (Source: William J. Hoffman, "Brouwer Beginnings, The First Three Generations of the Adam Brouwer Berchoven Family," The American Genealogist, Whole Number 92; Vol 23, #4, April, 1947: "Josias Dret joined the NYDR church on May 28, 1679 (Record, (:164). Josias Jansz Dreth had come to New Netherlands in 1661 according to his statement when taking oath of allegiance. He lived at Brooklyn, where he was assessed on Sept. 26, 1683 for 1 poll and 1 horse. According to the Drake Genealogy, he resided in Newtown, L. I., in 1692 and died there in 1701. The parents did not follow the Dutch system when naming their children, which may indicate a non-Dutch descent for Josias. 1. Jessayes Drake (Drets, Drats, or Dregz) emigrated from Amsterdam in 1661 and settled first in New Amsterdam and later moved to Brooklyn where he took the oath of allegiance in 1687. Jessaye married 30 Apr. 1682 in Brooklyn, Aaltje Brouwer, the daughter of Adam Brouwer. He was on the assessment rolls of 1683. In 1692, he resided in Newton.
