Ciro Forestieri

  • Born: 3 Jul 1886, Cefala' Diana, Palermo Province, Sicily
  • Married (2): 1 Jul 1911, St. Philip Benizi Catholic Church, Chicago, Illinois 16
  • Died: 27 Jul 1946, St. Augustine's Hospital, Chicago, Illinois
  • Buried: 31 Jul 1946, Mount Carmel Cemetery, Hillside, Illinois

Cause of his death was Starvation from Stomach cancer.

   General Notes:

Date noted was July 2, 1886, which isn't possible because he was born on July 3.

Came to U.S. via Boston on the SS Republic Nov 22, 1906 stating he was going to see his brother Salvatore in Chicago.

They lived at 852 Milton Avenue in Chicago until 1922 when they moved to Park St. in Benton Harbor. They lived above the saloon that Ciro owned. My dad said they left Chicago because too many people were getting killed in the neighborhood. I was told by relatives that he sold the saloon to his brother Sam.

Chicago Tribune July 29, 1946
FORESTIERI-Ciro Forestieri, formerly of Benton Harbor, Mich., beloved husband of Concetta, fond father of Mrs. Concetta Farina, Sebastian, Mary, and Jack, dear grandfather of Mary Forestieri, Fortunate Farina, and Jacquelyn Forestieri, dear brother of Paul and Frank Forestieri. Resting at chapel
1158-60 W. Grand avenue. Funeral Wednesday, July 31, 9 a.m., to St. Philip's church, Oak and Cambridge avenues. Internment Mount Carmel.

1920 census lists him as Saloon Keeper, owns it

My dad said he worked in Northern Michigan building roads for 10 cents an hour when he first came here. I was also told by relatives that he lived for a short time in New Orleans also, but haven't verified this yet.
