skinny and
short, appearing ever more so by always being bent over.
At first
glance, he seems to absolutely no meat of his bones. His
eye color is
not known by even his close confidents, and he ain't
telling
anytime soon.
Clothing Description: When on duty, Kada wears a grey jumpsuit with a white
undershirt and cloth slippers. When going casual, he
dresses in a jumpsuit, of which he seems to have many.
For formal occasions, he has an old, black double-breasted
suit and fedora. He wears wire-rimmed bispectibles
that, by a trick of the light, completely hide his eyes.
When dualing, he wears a white close-fitting gi, with a high
collar, tied-off sleeves and legs, black slippers, and wrap-around
sunglasses.
Personality: Kada is a humorous old codger who likes to socialize with the
student
body. He does this for two reasons: one, he enjoys it,
and
two, he helps him get close to and establish a repretoire
with
the dualists. On the surface, he presents himself as a
bitter,
irritable old man, but merely to fool the teachers and
administration and more importantly the other gods. If they think
he's
unsocialable, he can more easily violate the rule concerning
gods
conversing with dualists by flying under their collective radar;
he
encourages the students he befriends to think of it as a game he
plays
with the higher-ups.
The reason Kada tries to get close with the dualists is so he can
educate
and guide them. He wants to make sure the winning dualist knows how
to use
the ultimate power wisely.
Besides being a dispenser of wisdom, Kada is a grown-up-who-never-
really-grew-up. He tries to avoid what he feels to be the stuffiness
of
maturity. He's always looking for ways to play around and finds the
students the best source of this. Novelty is his greatest joy and he
can
recite pop-culture as quickly as he philosophical tracks.
Finally, Kada is an enthuist of growing things. Besides keeping a
tidy
garden, he also appreciates the growth of a human spirit and the
gradual
development of communities. He's been known to cultivate weeds
because
he can't stand to simply cut its life away.
History: When the duals were originally started, the God Dainichi feared what
would
happen if the wielder of
ultimate power had no idea how to use it. He desired
to place an element he can
control in Heion Kisetsu so he could facilitate the
development of dualists into
people who could be trusted with such power.
Unfortunately, the higher power
would not allow him to simply place something of
Dainichi's creation in the dual
equation. So, Dainichi joined with the God Inari,
who sympathized with his cause,
to create a being of both their essences, named
Inari-Dainichi, and presented
him as gift to the higher power to use as one of the
guardian gods. Since
Inari-Dainichi was not directly a creation of either gods, he was
technically an independent
entity, and the higher power could not find any way to
reject the gift without losing
face and insulting the other two gods. Moreover, he
actually seemed amused by
Inari-Dainichi and it is suspected that he was appointed
the autumn god as the higher
power's own personal joke.
Since then,
Inari-Dainichi has served as the autumn god, amusing the role of some
minor servent at the academy.
In the duals current incarnation, he works as a janitor.
Sometimes, he has succeeded in
his goal and sometimes he has failed.
Once, about two
centuries ago, he feel inlove with a water dualist. He never pursued
a relationship with her for
obvious reasons and she left the academy with never
knowing how he felt about her.
He's always carried a grain of guilt over it, though he
tries to not let it weigh him
down.
