Strangling Ritual
Strangling Ritual
On the 13th day of the 12th month, a maiden, cut off from the outside world for 3669 long days, shall be torn apart to provide power to the rope.
An old document found at the mansion says, "Show the maiden no mercy. Cast the rope on her limbs from the right arm, then the other. From the right foot, then the other."
The most important ritual in sealing the Hell Gate. The Rope Shrine Maiden is kept apart from society for 10 years. Her only purpose is to die in order to keep the Malice sealed behind the gate.
The maiden is locked in a dungeon room alone and only allowed out to walk around the house occasionally.
On the day of the ritual, moonlight shines down at the bottom of the Moon Well. The maiden is supposed to purify her body with moonlight. The bottom of the well is connected to the basement, and only the maiden uses this path to reach the basement.

The Family Master leads the way to the Rope Shrine, followed by the maiden, the four priests, the rest of the Himuro family. The maiden is tied to the shrine where the Master and the priests tighten the ropes until the maiden is pulled apart.
Once the ritual is completed, the ropes, now empowered with the Maiden's blood, are tied across the Gate's door to keep it closed.
The remains of the maiden are then taken down to the Moon Well and placed on an altar for all time.
The ritual must be repeated after a certain amount of time to ensure the Gate stays closed. In the game's story, we see what happens when the ritual fails.
