Something About The Legend

See what these legends have to say about The Legend...

Dev Ananad - I remember my very first and very big hit in Bombay was Ziddi and there was a song in that movie which was very hit those days jivan ke safar mai raahii... and it was Kishore's first song too. From his very first song he was HIT. Kishore was very moody and very jolly person. He was not a tread singer at all. He was very soft, sweet, and very spontaneous singer as well as person.
Aasha Bhosle - Kishoredaa, he was very funny. He would make us laugh so much that we couldn't even sing after words. We had to tell him to stop but he wouldn't. One day, we were singing a duet song and accidentally I went haaa in his line. We were suppose to stop the song but he just signaled that lets continue the song. We finished and I told him sorry, dadaa - lets re record the song, because I made a terrible mistake. He said, don't worry, I am an actor in that movie, when the actresses will try to sing, I will cover her mouth with my hands.
Amithab Bachchan - Very first time I saw Mr. Kishore Kumar, at the shooting of Bombay to Gova. After that I sang a song with him couple of times and he helped me a lot in that. I would sing his line, at that time he would stare at me and laugh so hard that sometimes he would roll all over the ground. He was my voice. 98% of my songs were sang by him. I remember when we were recording the song Oo shathi re.. tere binaa bhi kyaa jinaa... I was happened to be there and I saw him crying during the song. I asked the reason, and he said, I wish I was in this movie - just for this song. Later during the shooting I cried too. I felt what he had that day!!!
Ashok Kumar - Ever since Kishore was 5 years old, he wanted to sing. He was very bad when he was young, but one day he got sour throat and he was not able to sing. He cried a lot - for a month he cried and miracle happen, his voice got back and his throat was clear. He came to me one day, and he wanted to sing a song from my movie Aachut Kanyan - I told him its very difficult song - Only classical singer can sing that one. He said, I don't know all that - I want to sing it and I will and better then anybody! - Mr. Rafi, Manna Dey, Mukesh, My self we all tired but we couldn't. Kishore came and asked for that song. We told him that its not possible for him to sing that song, he got so angry and he told the music director to record that song without any paretic. He sang that song and it was OK in very first attempt and he didn't even had Classical training.
Manna Dey - I remember when we were making Padosan and there was a song where Mahemood , Sunil Datt and Kishore were competing against each other. There was a song Ek chatur naar badi hosiyaar... In that song, I sang for Mahemood and Kishore sang for Mr. Datt. We were recording that song and there was a part where I went ... teee daa ... tee daa ... tee daa.. I was suppose to finish that line but in the middle of last note Kishore stated Oo tede - oya kele - sidhe hojaa re - shidhe ho jaa re... - Everybody were looking at him - what is he doing ? Is he out of his mind or something ? But Sachin Daa didn't stop us and kept recording. When we were all done - and we played the song to see how well we have done, the part where Kishore sang in between was the best! -
Continue... There was Rafi to sing all kinds of songs - in all moods and types, there was Mukesh who could sing the same and there was me who could sing the best classical but Kishore - (taking a deep breath) - he was something else. He was so live and so much into the song that he left us in the maze and he achieved what we all dreamed off. We all had classical training and we had nice family background in music but Kishore had no such a thing, however he was leading us. I have never seen or heard anybody in my life who could hold any note in such a way that Kishore did. Even I felt honor when they asked me to sing for him in his movie. Rafi, Mukesh, Lata, Aasha, and I and everybody else who has sang with him - were forced to give our best of the best with him - because he was and still he is and will remain the best of the best.
