Band Quotes:
People keep saying different
things about like a Dog. Haugy wrote the riff for it and it
all came together in 15 minutes- it just came flying out of
him. I love David Bowie so it was bound to come out
eventually.
-Bernard Fanning
The song is about John Howard, the
whole attitude of his government towards Australia and how all
that seems to matter is reforming the tax system. No one cares
about the actual people and the fact that a lot of people in
this country still feel disadvantaged- indigenous people in
particular.
-Bernard Fanning
Its obviously about a particular
issue in Australia, but it's really just voicing our opinions.
Its overtly, governmentally political, but I think that our
songs about relationships, or situation, or the way people
relate to each other are political too, in a different
context. There's a lot of politics that goes into the way you
deal with other people.
-Bernard Fanning
(on the film clip)
It was a good way to visually
represent the song. Especially with Anthony, because he's such
a compelling person to watch.

Lyrics:
I
In all that he takes in all that
he shows
The higher the stakes the lower
the blows
And all the mistakes that he's
ever known
Whatever it takes he'll be
stealing the show
Now he nervously shakes as we
rattle his stage
But he's happy to be stuck back in
his halcyon days
Now we're trying hard to reconcile
a history of shame
But he reinforced the barriers
that keep it the same
If you treat me like a dog
And keep me locked in a cage
I'm not relaxed or comfortable
I'm aggravation and shame
But it's a fine fine time for
The people in the lucky land
If you treat me like a dog
And keep me locked in a cage
I'm not relaxed or comfortable
I'm aggravation and rage |
