The meeting was called to order at 7:00 by Chairman Ted White. The minutes from the previous meeting were approved as corrected.

HCC talked about people who might have photos, artifacts, etc., on the Geprags Barn. They discussed the possibility of a video history of the Hinesburg old timers.

Communications included:
The New England Wildflower Society has a training program for a plant specialist.
The Seedling, Winter 2000
Minutes of the Hinesburg Planning Commission, December 6 and 12 and January 3.
Minutes of the Hinesburg Zoning Commission, December 12 and January 2.

Martin Peterson brought up the new 1400 foot water line extension to Garvey Farms Development. Faith Inglsrud explained the scope of the project. HCC decided that it had no concern about the project because it was an extension to existing houses and would not contribute to sprawl.

Nancy Plunkett reported on the LaPlatte River Project. In her work with various agencies, they have pinpointed an 800 foot section on the Giroux and Bernard properties south from the Charlotte Road. According to the calculations, it needs about 960 trees and shrubs for its rehabilitation. Those will include red and silver maple, burr oak, white oak, green ash and blackberry. Sally Guttler recommended that we NOT plant black cherry because it is toxic to horses.

Ted White called Paul Wieczoreck (town forester) to tell him that we have $1,000 for tree planting.

Ted White distributed the Vermont Fish and Game Calendars to HCC members. He will be distributing these calendars to the Selectboard, Planning Commission and Zoning Commission at their next meetings. Ted White expressed his long-standing concern for the land as follows, "Who speaks for the land at the Selectboard, Zoning and Planning Commissions meetings? As the Conservation Commission, it should be us. We should be selling the land ethic philosophy to the Selectboard." Nancy Plunkett responded with the following insight, "The LaPlatte River is the barometer of how we are doing with our local environmental policies."

There is a Flower show at the Sheraton Inn in Burlington on March 2-4. Contact Tasha Tudor.

There is an All Boards Meeting at 7 p.m. on January 29, 2001. Ted White will report on our work at Geprags Park and the LaPlatte River projects.

The review of the Town Plan was postponed.

The next meeting is Monday, January 22. Ted White adjourned the meeting at 9:00 p.m.

Respectfully submitted,
Martin Peterson
