Minutes of
Hinesburg Conservation Commission
Hinesburg, Vermont
April 9, 2001

Location: Town Hall, Hinesburg, Vermont, 7 p.m.

Members attending: Martin Peterson, Nancy Baker, Nancy Plunkett, David Hirth, Bill Marks
Members missing: David Wagner, Ted White, Sally Guttler, Sarah Blythe

The meeting was called to order at 7:00 by Vice-Chairman Bill Marks. The minutes from the March 12 meeting were read and corrected. There were no minutes from the March 26 meeting as there was not a quorum.

Under communications, the following items were discussed:

Martin Peterson passed around a copy of Vermont Stormwater Management Handbook Technical Support Document, Public Review Document, which is a draft of an upcoming handbook for stormwater management.
Seminar flyer for May 3-4 New England Farms in Transition.
Seminar flyer for May 16 at Orton Institute (Shelburne Farms) Imagining the Vermont Landscape: Past and Future.
Association of Vermont Conservation Commissions Technical Bulletin on Forming Conservation Funds
Lakelines, an article about phosphorus cleanup in the Champlain Valley.
Hinesburg Zoning Commission minutes of March 20.
Seminar flyer for April 17, 7 p.m., Transportation options in the Burlington-Essex Corridor. Call 865-1794 or visit http://www.ccmpo.org

Nancy Baker gave Nancy Plunkett two copies of the ANR movie When Rivers Become Unstable: How Streamside Woodlands Can Help Protect Land from the ANR. Nancy Plunkett will give a copy of this video to both Grioux's and DeVost's to help them (and others) understand the necessity of this spring's tree planting project.

Bill Marks reported on the Geprags Pond project. He had talked with Ward Preston, a local contractor, about construction of the pond. Preston gave Bill Marks an estimate of $18,500 to $23,000, far above the $8,000 original estimate that was given last year. No decision was made as to what to do now. It was tabled until next week when the entire HCC should be present.

Nancy Plunkett reported that the tree planting which was scheduled for April 14 will be postponed to Saturday, April 28 at 9 a.m. There is still too much snow and flood waters to make planting possible next weekend. The 900+ trees will be arriving during the week prior to April 28. Saputo Foods has offered to store the trees (free of charge! Thank you!) in their coolers until HCC needs them. HCC will host a continental breakfast at the Town Hall, beginning at 9 a.m. Volunteers are encouraged to bring shovels, dibble bars, gloves, boots, and water bottles. No experience is necessary.

Nancy Plunkett alerted us to a website of the Shelburne Bay Watershed Data Collection. The website contains a great deal of valuable information, particularly on the LaPlatte River. http://www.shelburnebay.org/pages/laplatte.html

The next meeting is Monday, April 23. Bill Marks adjourned the meeting at 7:50 p.m.

Respectfully submitted,
Martin Peterson
Secretary
