Since I have released Ludo, I have been getting requests for source code of Ludo by stuudents for the purpose of learning, and most concern learning Visual Basic. However, Ludo was not written in VB. So I finally decided to write a program in VB which I can distribute. It is VBCheckers. The source code is however available only on request - I don't want this to end up as school projects for introductory computer classes!

Do not however be discouraged, this is more than just a VB tutorial! Even if you don't care for the source, you will find this game interesting if you like checkers. The rules that this game follows are simple:

• The objective is to capture (i.e. remove) all enemy coins.
• The coins can only move diagonally. A coin can move to one of the two squares in front if it is empty.
• A coin can jump over an enemy coin in order to capture it. The captured coin will then be removed from the board. A coin can continue capturing as many enemy coins as possible.
• When a capture is possible, a capture must be played! This rule makes the game interesting as you can force your opponent a move, although at the cost of losing one of your coin in the beginning.
• If and when it reaches the further end, it will become a king, and it will gain the ability to move backwards also.

I am not sure, but I believe this comprises more or less of original checkers. If anyone knows correct rules and thinks the above set of rules is incorrect or incomplete, please contact me. The game puts up a decent fight and is likely to defeat the average player. It also has undo/redo features, and ability to save game. A simple notation window can also be displayed.
