Sakura is about the most perfect child I've seen in my life. ^_^ Usually in anime, if one or both of your parents are missing, you are all bitter and cynical. Not our little cherry blossoms. There is no one that Sakura hates-- or even distrusts-- in the entire 70-episode long series.
Sakura is also good at everything. Math was her weak point, but after Mizuki came by, she got interested in it. She used to be bad at throwing baton, but she's really good now. She used to be afraid of frying oil, but she's fine now. See what I mean about "perfect child"? She almost never complains, and she's always glad to help out her father or brother. She does laundry and cooks and cleans without uttering a single word of complaint. She's responsible, cute. kind, sweet, and smart. I found her wish list-- a bookbag-- very amusing. ^_^;;
And yet in this perfect child, the shadow of loneliness lurks. Despite the fact that she loves everyone so much-- despite the fact that Sakura is a good child who understands that her mother can't be brought back to life-- Sakura can't help but miss her mother. She knows that her mother is in a very beautiful place up in the heavens, but what about Sakura? What about the pain that Sakura is feeling?
She also gets rejected by the one whom she thought she loved the most. Even though Sakura understands his feelings, being human she can't help but feel heartache. Sakura is extremely emtional. She gets sad, happy, embarassed, angry, and depressed very easily. Even though she has that mask of a happy and cheerful child outside, inside, she's a lonely child. She just tries to keep it all in, because she's a kind child and she doesn't want others to be sad because of her feelings. The only time where she allowed her locked-up emotions to be loose in front of someone else was in front of Shaoran. And Shaoran, also being a kind child, understands this pain. And he'll always be there for her...

Wing Zero's thoughts on Sakura's name: Well, Sakura is Japan's national flower... CLAMP might have just picked it out, then just sorta made everyone else have name relating to nature to justify their use of such an unoriginal name... ^_^ Symbol of samurai is also sword hidden in Sakura. So maybe it implies that even if she seems fragile and only beautiful outside, she's tough inside... and Sakura blossom is everywhere, and it's very pleasing. That pretty much descirbes our lil' Cherry Blossoms, too! ^_^

Sara-sama's thoughts: Nadeshiko's favorite flower... Sakura is very beautiful, and it perishes easily. But Sakura's birthday is on April Fool's Day. So you'd think she'll be weak and fragile, but she's actually exact opposite of that! ^_^ Sakura is also loved by many people, just like the flower Sakura.
