The Horror Continues The horror continues in a new form called "second season"! That's right, they're done torturing us with first season and here comes second season to butcher, mess up, and destroy! All right! More stuff for me to rant about! "I" may diss the dub to my heart's content... but if it's dub, "it'll surely crap the story up just the same". Hi. I"m SaKOORa Avalon. I've finally collected all of the Claw Cards and then we had to face this "Final Judgement". Li gave it his best, but he just wasn't up to it. Then I was up. Even though Yuei was powerful, I beat him and I became the new mistress of the cards! Something like this... I can't describe to you how smug and "intelligent" she sounds... sorta like how a kindergartner sounds when she/he managed to write "A".... And this is owned by Nelvana and WB 11, of course. (Thank heavens!) I thought they couldn't possibly make the dubbing worse. Oh yes they can. After butchering all the episodes and skipping straight into 2nd seaons, they flew off to 3rd season and started to mess it up. In 2nd season, there was a whole new song(Tobira o Akete and Honey). I knew they weren't going to translate that, so I ignored the usual "Cardcaptors, the mystic adventure". And I knew they weren't going to translate that whole love business being the "destruction", so it was all cool. I understand. (No I don't, but I don't go after them with my beam cannon for that.) BUT I must say I was a little excited in the 3rd season. I couldn't wait to see how they would mess up Platinum. Turns out I didn't had to prepare myself for that.... because they DIDN'T! Good lord, they just used that "Cardcaptors" song, without even giving an ATTEMPT at showing clips from original opening theme. It was just random clips from 1st, 2nd, and 3rd season. ....must not kill, must not kill, must not kill.... Ah, but there's one thing that dub did not let me down on. Name changes and cut/paste work of episodes. I was telling star*wing, "You just wait, they're gonna squash the thread and the teddy bear episodes together!" Turns out I was wrong. The dub outdid itself. It squashed those two all right, but it even added clips from episode that's almost at the end! AND the poor teddy became Home Economics project, then Julian's present! And Julian's birthday just HAPPENED to be in December, yet the surroundings remarkably looked like early fall.... Ah, dub. This season finally convinced me. Cardcaptors is the worst dub I've ever seen being commited to an anime in my entire 16 years of life. And I"ve seen enough dubs, and I'm counting all the popular series' dubs. (Yes, even considering DBZ's butchering of opening/ending theme and strange~ opening theme of Digimon.) This is truly impressive. And we can expect more bad things to come. Ah, the joy. "I" may make you sad from now on... but if it's Sakura, "it'll surely be all right". Sakura who had been acknowledged as the new mistress of the cards by collecting all of the Clow Cards. But strange things are starting to happen again after a mysterious transferred student moved to Sakura's class. Even the magic that she had used all the time doesn't even work anymore.... Another adventure of Sakura that freshly starts off! That fantastic start! 3rd season intro came from 7th volume of CCS comic. Made by CLAMP. The 2nd season blasted me off with its adorable "Tobira o Akete" and "Honey". And the ending of the 2nd season was so heart-wrenching that it almost made me cry. (But you don't have to trust me on that, because I even cried on "Pikachu's Goodbye" and the ending scene of "Tonari no Totoro".) The manga version definately did make me cry. Being betrayed by someone whom you loved the most, being forced to forget all about everyone who care about, having to live in an empty world where no one has any emotions... to Sakura, it was a punishment worse then death. But she realized that "everything will surely be all right", and that "everyone loves Sakura-chan". She finally won over even stubborn Yue by offering her small hand of friendship to him.... a moment which caused me to tremble with joy, tears filling up my eyes. All's well that end's well. (But Yue, you *seriously* shouldn't have beaten the crap outta her like that in the anime version.) And so starts the 3rd season. My. Gosh. I was expecting the happy "Dreaming! Dreaming!" but... but... suddenly my screen filled with this angel figure with feathers flying around, and a hauntingly soft music. "I'm a dreamer, hisomy pawaa..." I was like, "What the hell? Did I get a wrong tape or somethin'?" when I saw the word "Cardcaptor Sakura" being written across the screen. Then it started. Platinum. I was just sitting there with my mouth hanging open throughout the entire opening theme. When "Kitto, kitto, odorokukurai..." ended the song, I was jumping up and down, screaming, "This... this... is the best song I've ever heard since Sailor Stars opening theme and White Reflection of Gundam Wing OAV!!!" Then I settled down and officially prepared to enjoy myself. Yes I did. I read the manga first, so I knew what was going to happen, but the seiyuus and the animators outdid themselves, and I was stuck to the sofa for next 30 minutes until "Fruit Candy" came on. Then of course, I was hugging the TV for Sakura's kawaiiness and thanking whoever who came up with the adorable idea of making a small movie of Sakura's Valentine's Day in the manga. And as soon as that 2 hours of the first volume were over, I furiously inserted the next volume and got yelled at by my mother. Anyone who can change this spree of super cuteness into a laughing matter(so I watch dub to have a good laugh... it really is funny...) is just... just... evil. And we can expect to see in future anime fan generations' dictionary, "Nelvana: Evil dubbing of an anime. WB 11: Even more evil broadcasting of bad dubbing of an anime. " More ranting shall follow as more dubbed episodes become available. Until more evils are commited to CCS, ja! |
