Esther (Ester) Chapter 9 (Continued)

Ester 9:18-19 The Jews in Shushan , however, had assembled on the thirteenth and fourteenth, and then on the fifteenth they rested and made it a day of feasting and joy. That is why rural Jews-those living in villages-observe the fourteenth of the month of Adar as a day of joy and feasting, a day for giving presents to each other.

Here we have the explanation of why Purim is celebrated on two days and not one.

Ester 9:20-22 Mordecai recorded these events, and he sent letters to all the Jews throughout the provinces of King Ahasuerus, near and far, to have them celebrate annually the fourteenth and fifteenth days of the month of Adar as the time when the Jews got relief from their enemies, and as the month when their sorrow was turned into joy and their mourning into a day of celebration. He wrote them to observe the days as days of feasting and joy and giving presents of food to one another and gifts to the poor.

Mordecai recorded these events - pretty good chance that he wrote the book of Ester too.

Ester 9:23-28 So the Jews agreed to continue the celebration they had begun, doing what Mordecai had written to them. For Haman son of Hammedatha, the Agagite, the enemy of all the Jews, had plotted against the Jews to destroy them and had cast the pur (that is, the lot) for their ruin and destruction. But when the plot came to the king's attention, he issued written orders that the evil scheme Haman had devised against the Jews should come back onto his own head, and that he and his sons should be hanged on the gallows. (Therefore these days were called Purim, from the word pur.) Because of everything written in this letter and because of what they had seen and what had happened to them, the Jews took it upon themselves to establish the custom that they and their descendants and all who join them should without fail observe these two days every year, in the way prescribed and at the time appointed. These days should be remembered and observed in every generation by every family, and in every province and in every city. And these days of Purim should never cease to be celebrated by the Jews, nor should the memory of them die out among their descendants.

Haman was influenced by the serpent of old.

John 8:44-45 You are of your father the devil, and the desires of your father you want to do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaks a lie, he speaks from his own resources, for he is a liar and the father of it. NKJV

2 Cor 11:3 But I fear, lest somehow, as the serpent deceived Eve by his craftiness, so your minds may be corrupted from the simplicity that is Messiah.

Don’t miss the simplicity of the Messiah. Either you trust in Him and only Him to get you to the other world or you don’t. Some try to add something to it. Don’t be deceived. Trust in Yeshua Messiah alone. The way is simple and what He did is sufficient to get you there.

2 Cor 11:4 For if he who comes teaching another Yeshua whom we have not taught, or if you receive a different spirit which you have not received, or different good news which you have not accepted--you may well put up with it!

2 Cor 11:12-15 But what I do, that I will do, that I may cut off occasion from them which desire occasion; that wherein they glory, they may be found even as we. For such are false apostles, deceitful workers, transforming themselves into the apostles of Messiah. And no marvel; for Satan (adversary) himself is transformed into an angel of light. Therefore it is no great thing if his emissaries also are disguised as the servant of righteousness; whose end will be according to their works.

Purim (meaning “Lots”) is to be celebrated forever. This is the only feast not given by Moshe and recorded in the Bible, with such a stipulation.

Ester 9:29-32 So Queen Ester, daughter of Abihail, along with Mordecai the Jew, wrote with full authority to confirm this second letter concerning Purim. And Mordecai sent letters to all the Jews in the 127 provinces of the kingdom of Ahasuerus -words of goodwill and assurance- to establish these days of Purim at their designated times, as Mordecai the Jew and Queen Ester had decreed for them, and as they had established for themselves and their descendants in regard to their times of fasting and lamentation. Ester's decree confirmed these regulations about Purim, and it was written down in the records.

This would be the records of the Persian Empire and not the book of Ester.
