Sermon on the Mount.
When believers in Yeshua quote Matt. 5:17, they are only saying that Yeshua did not sin. (Without blemish) Also, that he fulfilled the Messianic prophecies concerning his first coming.
Yeshua, being Jewish "as concerning the flesh" (Rom. 11:4,5) observed every commandment G-d gave to the children of Israel.
Does not G-d address future prophecy as having already been done?
As it is written, I have made thee a father of many nations), before him whom he believed, even G-d. who giveth life to the dead, and calleth those things which are not, as though they were; (Rom.4:17)
Remember the former things of old: for I am G-d, and there is none else; I am G-d, and there is none like me, "Declaring the end from the beginning, and from ancient times the things that are not yet done, saying, My counsel shall stand, and I will do all my pleasure: (Isaiah 46:9-10)
In Matthew (Sermon on the Mount) Matt. 5:2 -5:11 Yeshua was talking about the coming Kingdom of G-d as if it was already there. (and in a way it was because He was, is, and will be the Kingdom)
The sermon has to be taken as a whole as the basis of the last phrase v. 11, "on account of me." The L-rd said to his disciples, "blessed are you.........on the account of me."
When one is indwelt by G-d, and G-d's nature is in him, he has the kingdom of G-d within him. (Lk. 17:21)
"Blessed" also mean "fully satisfied". This satisfaction comes due to Yeshua's indwelling.
the "poor in spirit"(ptochos) the first, describes one's spiritual helpless state.
"Those whom mourn"..hoi penthountes, sorrow for one's sin + sins of others. (passive attitude)
"Humbleness or meek", combating sin through the Spirit, not our own strength.
"Those who hunger" (Hoi peinontes) "the hungering ones" , constant and satisfied with G-d's righteousness.
"mercifulness", (eleos) Showing mercy to others, when they are not under His grace. Only G-d can effect grace but we are to show mercy and be "merciful" to others.
"Peacemaker", is not to fight and to try to be peaceful with others. Also implies bringing the peace of G-d (His Son) to others.
"Persecuted for the sake of righteousness" causes a person to reach the highest calling of blessedness.
Blessedness to one at the moment of his new belief in Yeshua.
Yeshua defined what the law is in Matt. 12:30-31 Love to G-d and man. And Matt. 7:12 this sums up the teaching of the Torah and the Prophets.
I understand that following certain traditions is like loving the L-rd.
But one can take law to an extreme:
James says:
Keep speaking and acting like people who will be judged by a Torah which gives freedom. For judgment will be without mercy toward one who doesn't show mercy; but mercy wins out over judgment. (James 2:12)]
Yeshua addressed those that brought the law to an extreme:
Then some P'rushim and Torah-teachers from Yerushalayim came and asked him, "Why is it that your talmidim to break the tradition of the Elders? They don't do n'tilat-yadayim (wash their hands) before they eat." He answered, "Indeed, why do you break the command of G-d by your tradition? For G-d said, "Honor your father and mother,' and 'Anyone who curses his father or mother must be put to death." But you say, "If anyone says to his father or mother, "I have promised to give to G-d what I might have used to help you, " then he is rid of his duty to honor his father or mother.' Thus by your tradition you make null and void the word of G-d. (Matt. 15:1-6)
Every plant, which My heavenly Father hath not planted, shall be rooted up. (Matt. 15:13)
Every "religious" system which My heavenly Father hath not planted, shall be rooted up. Man's ways are not G-d's ways.
But what does the Tanakh say about Eliyahu? He pleads with G-d for Israel.
G-d's answer: "I have kept for myself seven thousand men who have not knelt down to Ba'al."
It's the same in the present age: There is a remnant, chosen by grace. (now if it is by grace, it is accordingly not based on legalistic works; if it were otherwise, grace would no longer be grace.) The one's chosen have obtained it.
G-d has not cast his people away whom He chose in advance. And I thank G-d this grace has come to Gentiles and to the Jewish people through Israel and Jesus Christ (Yeshua the Messiah!)
Believer's, even though they were not striving for righteousness, have obtained righteousness; but it is a righteousness grounded in faith (trusting)! (Romans 9:30)
Keep seeking the things above, where Jesus (Yeshua) is seated at the right hand of G-d. For you have died and your life is hidden with Jesus (Yeshua)
renewed in knowledge (to a true knowledge) after the image of him that created him; where there is neither Greek nor Jew, circumcised nor uncircumcised, Barbarian, Scythian, bond, nor free, but Christ is all,and in all.- (a renewal in which there is no distinction between Gentile and Jew, circumcised and uncircumcised, foreigner, savage, slave, free man; on the contrary, in all, the Christ (Messiah) is everything)....put on therefore, as those elect of G-d, holy and beloved, bowels of mercies, kindness, humbleness of mind, meekness, longsuffering. Therefore clothe yourselves with feelings of compassion and with kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience. Bear with one another...above all clothe yourselves with love." (Col. 3:10-14)
Since it is impossible for the Jewish people to keep the Biblical Sabbath in all its original setting, today they observe only the seventh day according to the Rabbinical interpretation of it found in the Talmud.
G-d's Sabbath is recorded in Gen. 2:2 :
They could now rest from their bondage because they had been delivered by G-d through the "blood"(or laid down in death) of an innocent lamb. G-d's promise of the true Sabbath whereby one can enter into G-d's rest is fulfilled in the Messiah (G-d's Lamb) and will be during his future reign. (Kingdom) G-d considers all things in the future done as if they were.
G-d's lamb said, Come unto me , all ye that labor and are heavy laden and I will give you rest ['and I will be your Sabbath'] "Take MY yoke upon you and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find REST [Sabbath] unto your souls" (Matt. 11:28,29)
Sabbath ("Shabbos" or "Shabbat" meaning "rest" "to cease from work"). The seventh day of the week (beginning on the evening of the sixth) is the Sabbath, the sign and covenant G-d gave only to Israel(Ex 31:13,16) which Paul called "a shadow of things to come"! (Yeshua's New Kingdom, Col. 2:16,17), "a yoke of bondage" and "weak and beggarly elements" (Gal. 5:1)
After a Jewish person accepts Yeshua as his Messiah he is free from this "bondage." (this means he should observe it not because he has to, but because he wants to) G-d's commands are for our protection and blessing. For it is good to set apart a time for G-d every day including the Shabbat.
For Jesus (Yeshua) is the end of the law for righteousness to everyone that believeth." (Rom. 10:4)
Concerning Sacrifice:
Yeshua said on the tree , Tetelesiai "It is finished" (John 19:30) "having canceled out the certificate of debt consisting of decrees against us and which was contrary (hostile) to us; and He has taken it out of the way, having nailed it to the tree. (Col. 2:14)
After Jesus (Yeshua) yielded up His Spirit. And, behold, the veil of the temple was torn in two from the top to the bottom; and the earth did quake, and the rocks were split; the tearing of the veil, which was a type of the human body of Jesus (Yeshua)(Heb. 10:20)
This signified that a "new and living way" was opened for all believers into the very presence of G-d, with no other sacrifice or priesthood except Yeshua's. So just like, Esther after 3 days we can go to the King boldly. G-d comes to us and we will be accepted without punishment of death. And G-d resurrected on the third day so He could dwell in the hearts of man.
In union with him, through His faithfulness, we have boldness and confidence when we approach G-d. I pray that from the treasures of his glory he will empower you with inner strength by His Spirit, so that the Christ (Messiah) may live in your hearts through your faith (trusting). I also pray you will be rooted and grounded in love, so that you, with all G-d's people, will be given strength to grasp the breadth, length, height and depth of Christ's (Messiah's) love, yes to know it, even though it is beyond all knowing, so that you will be filled with all the fullness of G-d. Now to him who by His power working in us is able to do far beyond anything we can ask or imagine, to him be glory. (Eph 3:12-20)
The New covenant (B'rit Hadsahah) portion, the essence of which is not a written text but the Spirit. For the written text brings death, but the Spirit gives life. Now if that which worked death, by means of a written text engraved on stone tablets, came with glory- such that the people of Israel could not stand to look at Moshe's face because of its brightness, even though that brightness was already fading away- won't the working of the Spirit be accompanied by even greater glory? For if there was glory in what worked to declare to people guilty, how much more must the glory abound in what works to declare people innocent. In fact, by comparison with this greater glory, what was made glorious before has no glory now. For if there was glory in what faded away, how much more glory must there be in what lasts.
Therefore we hope like this, we are very open - unlike Moshe, who put a veil over his face, so that the people would not see the fading brightness come to an end...for today it has been unveiled because only in the Messiah is the veil taken away. "But, says the Torah, "whenever someone turns to Adonai, the veil is taken away. Now, "Adonai" in this text means the Spirit. And where the Spirit of Adonai is, there is freedom. So all of us, with faces unveiled, see as in a mirror the glory of the L-rd; and we are being changed into his very image, from one degree of glory to the next, by Adonai the Spirit.
