Matthew Chapter 10 (Continued)

Matt 10:11-14 And into whatsoever city or town you will enter, inquire who in it is worthy; and there abide until you go. And when you come into a house, salute it. And if the house be worthy, let your peace come upon it: but if it be not worthy, let your peace return to you. And whosoever will not receive you, nor hear your words, when you depart out of that house or city, shake off the dust of your feet.

Again, they were to travel light and have the local believer host them. This is not necessarily the case for those who take the message of Yeshua through out the world today.

Shake off the dust of your feet - It was common for the Jewish people to shake the dust off of their feet as an expression of distain when returning from gentile regions. Paul and Barnabas also did this when expelled from Antioch (Acts 13:51). This was a visible protest, signifying that they regarded the place as no better than a pagan land.

Matt 10:15 Verily I say to you, It will be more tolerable for the land of Sodom and Gomorrah in the day of judgment, than for that city.

G-d destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah by raining fire and brimstone down on it because of the sins committed there. (See Gen 19) Anyone who rejects Yeshua HaMashiach will someday face the fire and brimstone of the Lake of Fire (Gehenna).

Matt 10:16 Behold, I send you forth as sheep in the midst of wolves: you therefore be wise as serpents, and harmless as doves.

Yeshua is telling them that they need to be on guard. A serpent is cleaver. Yeshua is telling them not to be gullible. There are many who would desire to stop the gospel message from being given out. They are not to be vicious in there reaction, but to be as harmless as a dove.

Some days one does feel like a sheep surrounded by wolves. We are to follow the leading of Ruach HaKodesh and not our own flesh.

Matt 10:17-18 But beware of men: for they will deliver you up to the councils, and they will scourge you in their synagogues; And you will be brought before governors and kings for my sake, for a testimony against them and the Gentiles.

Yeshua was telling them that: unbelief that the Father sent the Son, would not be limited to the Jewish people. There would be many gentiles that would reject the message too. The Apostles, and later the rest of Yeshua’s talmidim, would face persecution by both Jewish and Gentile people.

Matt 10:19-20 But when they deliver you up, take no thought how or what you will speak: for it will be given you in that same hour what you will speak. For it is not you that speak, but the Spirit of your Father which speaks in you.

Ruach HaKodesh is our teacher. He will guide and direct our speech.

There are those that use this passage to justify not preparing their messages before getting up and speaking to their congregations. They are only fooling themselves. It is painfully obvious to the audience when a speaker is winging it.

Matt 10:21 And the brother will deliver up the brother to death, and the father the child: and the children will rise up against their parents, and cause them to be put to death. And you will be hated of all men for my name's sake: but he that endures to the end will be saved. But when they persecute you in this city, you flee into another: for verily I say to you, you will not have gone over the cities of Israel, until the Son of man comes.

Even the members of your own family may turn against you when you accept Yeshua as your Mashiach. This is very sad when this happens. However, it is better to be rejected by a loved one than to be rejected by G-d at the judgment.

You will not have gone over the cities of Israel, until the Son of man comes -This is speaking about that day and age when Yeshua would be manifest before the nation.

Matt 10:24-25 The disciple is not above his master, nor the servant above his lord. It is enough for the disciple that he be as his master, and the servant as his lord. If they have called the master of the house Beelzebub, how much more will they call them of his household?

If they called Yeshua -devil, liar, lunatic, etc. They will call you the same. Some will call the gospel of mercy - hate because of its exclusiveness or what some consider extremism.

Matt 10:26-27 Fear them not therefore: for there is nothing covered, that will not be revealed; and hid, that will not be known. What I tell you in darkness, you speak in light: and what you hear in the ear, this you preach on the housetops.

The gospel of mercy pertains to all individuals regardless of who you are, what race you are or what you believe. You either follow whom the Father sent or you will have no part with the Father. This is the rule. No exceptions or exemptions!!!

Matt 10:28 And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell. (Gehenna)

Fear not those in this life you try to harm us in this world or those who try to keep us from the truth and reaching the other world. Trust only in Yeshua HaMashiach for your entrance. Otherwise, Fear Him who gives eternal judgment in Gehenna.

Matt 10:29-31 Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? Yet not one of them will fall to the ground apart from the will of your Father. And even the very hairs of your head are all numbered. So don't be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows.

I doubt that anyone knows how may hairs they have on their head. But G-d keeps track of the littlest details about us. It is comforting to know that G-d cares so much about us.

Matt 10:32-33 Whosoever therefore will confess Me before men, him will I confess also before My Father which is in heaven. (The other world) But whosoever will deny Me before men, Him will I also deny before my Father which is in heaven.

This is the rule. No exceptions or exemptions!!!

Matt 10:34-36 Think not that I am come to send peace on earth: I came not to send peace, but a sword. For I am come to set a man at variance against his father, and the daughter against her mother, and the daughter in law against her mother in law. And a man's foes will be they of his own household.

It was not the time for His reign of peace.

Again we have the faithful against those who have no faith in Him. Many are those of our own family.

Matt 10:37 He that loves father or mother more than Me is not worthy of Me: and he that loves son or daughter more than Me is not worthy of Me.

Yeshua is not against loving your father or mother. This means if you love them more than G-d. Love the L-rd with all your heart.

Exodus 20:3 You will have no other gods before Me.

Matt 10:38 And he that takes not his execution stake (cross), and follows after Me, is not worthy of Me.

We all have a duty to serve Yeshua. We should humbly deny self. Our lives our not our own and we gave our lives to serve the Messiah.

Matt 10:39 He that finds his life will lose it: and he that loses his life for my sake will find it.

Surrender and give your life to the Messiah. G-d has rules. He requires all to humble themselves through His Son. If you don’t receive the Messiah, He will declare this to the Father and the Father will reject you because you rejected Yeshua. He sent Him to do His will and for us to receive Him.

Matt 10:40-41 He that receives you receives Me, and he that receives Me receives Him that sent Me. He that receives a prophet in the name of a prophet will receive a prophet's reward; and he that receives a righteous man in the name of a righteous man will receive a righteous man's reward.

Yeshua was a righteous man who died for us (out of necessity) and we receive His righteousness if we receive Him in humility.

Matt 10:42 And whosoever will give to drink to one of these little ones a cup of cold water only in the name of a disciple, verily I say to you, he will in no way lose his reward.

The rabbis have a similar saying: "He that gives food to one that studies in the law, G-d will bless him in this world, and give him a lot in the world to come."

Supporting a servant of G-d even in the smallest way will not go unnoticed by G-d.
