Matt 14:14-15 And Yeshua (Jesus) went out, and saw a great multitude, and was moved with compassion toward them, and he healed their sick. And when it was evening, His disciples came to Him, saying, This is a desert place, and the time is now past; send the multitude away, that they may go into the villages, and buy themselves food.
moved with compassion - What a wonderful G-d we have! He cares about our well-being and has compassion for us.
Matt 14:16-21 But Yeshua (Jesus) said to them, "They do not need to go away. You give them something to eat." And they said to Him, "We have here only five loaves and two fish." He said, "Bring them here to Me." Then He commanded the multitudes to sit down on the grass. And He took the five loaves and the two fish, and looking up to heaven, He blessed and broke and gave the loaves to the disciples; and the disciples gave to the multitudes. So they all ate and were filled, and they took up twelve baskets full of the fragments that remained. Now those who had eaten were about five thousand men, besides women and children.
Here we have a miracle. Yeshua fed five thousand men with only five loaves and two fishes. This corresponds to when G-d provided to Moshe and the children of Israel quail, manna, and water in the wilderness. Yeshua is clearly again a prophet like unto Moshe, as Moshe had told us to look for.
Notice that the head count was for the men only. Most of the men probably had the wife and at least one child along. So there were probably 15,000+ people there.
This is a symbolic lesson for Yeshua’s talmidim. G-d would provide them with spiritual food that they would in turn share it with the people.
Matt 14:22-23 Immediately Yeshua (Jesus) made His disciples to get into a ship, and to go before Him to the other side, while He sent the multitudes away. And when He had sent the multitudes away, He went up into a mountain apart to pray: and when the evening was come, He was there alone.
Everyone needs to spend time alone with the Father. If Yeshua needed to have a time alone to pray, how much more do we need it.
Matt 14:24-25 But the ship was now in the middle of the sea, tossed with waves: for the wind was against it. And in the fourth watch of the night Yeshua (Jesus) went to them, walking on the sea.
The 4th watch is from 3AM - 6AM.
Matt 14:26-31 And when the disciples saw Him walking on the sea, they were troubled, saying, It is a spirit; and they cried out for fear. But immediately Yeshua (Jesus) spoke to them, saying, Be of good cheer; it is I; be not afraid. And Peter answered Him and said, L-rd, if it is you, bid me come to you on the water. And He said, Come. And when Peter was come down out of the ship, he walked on the water, to go to Yeshua (Jesus). But when he saw the wind boisterous, he was afraid; and beginning to sink, he cried, saying, L-rd, save me. And immediately Yeshua (Jesus) stretched out His hand, and caught him, and said to him, O you of little faith, why did you doubt? (dealing with faithfulness)
Higher meaning - If we trust in the Son we will reach to the other side. If we doubt we will sink into the Sea of death and be eternally separated from HaShem.
L-rd, save me - If you call out to G-d and ask Him to save you from your sins. He will hear you and answer your prayer.
Matt 14:32-33 And when they were come into the ship, the wind ceased. Then they that were in the ship came and WORSHIPPED Him, saying, Of a truth You are the Son of G-d. (Belief)
They recognized that Yeshua was the Son of G-d and worshipped Him.
Matt 14:34 And when they were gone over, they came into the land of Gennesaret. And when the men of that place had knowledge of Him, they sent out into all that country round about, and brought to Him all that were diseased; And begged Him that they might only touch the hem of His garment: and as many as touched were made perfectly whole. (Started in Matt. 9:20)
Many acknowledge that Yeshua was a good teacher but nothing more. I would like to ask them to tell me to name another prophet that had this kind of power. They just touched the hem of His garment and were healed. Amazing!
Psalm 103:2-5 Bless Adonai, O my soul, and forget not all His benefits: Who forgives all your iniquities; who heals all your diseases; Who redeems your life from destruction; who crowns you with loving kindness and tender mercies; Who satisfies your mouth with good things; so that your youth is renewed like the eagle's.
