Matthew Chapter 22 (Continued)

Matt 22:23-28 The same day the Tz’dukim (Sadducees) came to Him, which do not believe in the resurrection, and asked Him, Saying, Master, Moshe said, If a man die, having no children, his brother will marry his wife, and raise up seed to his brother. Now there were with us seven brothers: and the first, when he had married a wife, deceased, and, having no children, left his wife to his brother: Likewise the second also, and the third, to the seventh. And last of all the woman died also. Therefore in the resurrection whose wife will she be of the seven? For they all had her.

It is interesting to see the Tz’dukim asking a question about something they did not believe in, the resurrection.

Matt 22:29-30 Yeshua (Jesus) answered and said to them, You error, not knowing the scriptures, nor the power of G-d. For in the resurrection they neither marry, nor are given in marriage, but are as the angels of G-d in heaven.

The Tz’dukim did not believe in angels either.

NOTE: When a believer dies and goes to heaven they DO NOT become angels!!!! Angels are angels not dead people. When you die you will not be issued a harp and a set of wings.

We also learn here that we will not be married to another person in heaven. There is one cult that teaches you are married for “time and eternity” that is not Biblical as we can clearly see from this passage. In heaven, the Church, those who are true believers in Yeshua, will be the bride of Yeshua. That is the only marriage that exists.

Matt 22:31-32 But about the resurrection of the dead, have you not read what G-d spoke to you saying, I am the G-d of Avraham, and the G-d of Yitz’chak, and the G-d of Ya’akov? G-d is not the G-d of the dead, but of the living.

Avraham, Yitz’chak and Ya’akov are not sleeping. They are alive with HaShem above.

Matt 22:33-34 And when the multitude heard this, they were astonished at His doctrine. But when the P’rushim (Pharisees) had heard that He had silenced the Tz’dukim (Sadducees), they got together.

These guys just don’t quit.

Matt 22:35-36 Then one of them, which was a lawyer, asked Him a sh’eilah, to trap Him, and saying, Master, which is the great commandment in the law (instruction)?

a lawyer - A Torah expert.

a sh’eilah - This is a question about halakhah (Jewish law) or another aspect of the Bible or Jewish tradition.

Matt 22:37-40 Yeshua said to him, You will love the L-rd your G-d with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like it, You will love your neighbor as yourself. On these two commandments hang all the law (Torah) and the prophets.

D’varim (Deuteronomy) 6:5 You will love the L-RD your G-d with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your strength.

Vayikra (Leviticus) 19:18 You will not take vengeance, nor bear any grudge against the children of your people, but you will love your neighbor as yourself: I am the L-RD.

The “Ten Commandments” fall into two categories: the first four deals with our relationship to G-d, the last six deals with our relationship with others.

The Torah is good.

Matt 22:41-45 While the P’rushim (Pharisees) were gathered together, Yeshua asked them, Saying, What you think of Mashiach (Messiah)? Whose son is He? They say to Him, The Son of David. He said to them, How then does David “IN SPIRIT” call Him L-rd, saying, The L-RD said to my lord, You sit on my right hand, till I make your enemies your footstool? If David then called Him L-rd, how is He his son?

Tehillim (Psalms) 110:1 The L-RD said to my lord, Sit at my right hand, until I make your enemies your footstool.

David was led by Ruach HaKodesh.

Yeshua’s question was straight and to the point.

Matt 22:46 And no man was able to answer Him a word, neither did any man from that day on ask Him any more questions.
