Matthew Chapter 2 (Continued)

Matt 2:11 And when they were come into the house, they saw the young child with Miryam (Mary) his mother, and FELL down, and WORSHIPPED Him: and when they had opened their treasures, they presented to Him gifts; gold, and frankincense, and myrrh.

“the house” - They did not stay in the stable but moved in to a house.

Notice each time Miryam is mentioned, Yeshua is mentioned first. After all He is G-d.

This must have been quite an amazing event for Miryam and Yosef. Picture it: 1,000 plus men coming in to town to worship and bring gifts for Yeshua.

Visits to Kings were seldom made with out a gift. So when the “King of the Universe” was born “King of the Jews”. He was naturally presented with lavish gifts.

Gold -Speaks of His Kingly nature and perfection.

Frankincense - It was used in sacrificial offerings. Speaks of this Divinity.

Myrrh - It was used to anoint the dead. It speaks of His death on the execution stake.

It was also prophesied that the gentiles would worship the Mashiach. This will happen again in the future.

Psalms 72:10-11 The kings of Tarshish and of the isles will bring presents: the kings of Sheba and Seba will offer gifts. Yes, all kings will fall down before Him: all nations will serve Him.

Matt 2:12 And being warned of G-d in a dream that they should not return to Herod, they departed into their own country another way.

First the Magi are warned not to go back to Herod.

Matt 2:13 And when they were departed, behold, an angel of the L-rd appeared to Joseph in a dream, saying, Arise, and take the young child and his mother, and flee into Egypt, and stay there until I bring you word: for Herod will seek the young child to destroy Him.

Then Yosef was warned of Herod’s wicked plan.

Joseph, the son of Jacob, was a foreshadowing of Yeshua. Like many people in the Torah all point to our wonderful Messiah and clarify who He would be and how we would know it was He. What are the odds of one fulfilling the bill. He has come and will come again to fit the bill again.

Matt 2:14 When he arose, he took the young child and his mother by night, and departed into Egypt:.

Yosef did not delay. He immediately packed up his stepson, Yeshua, and his wife and left at night for Egypt.

Matt 2:15 And was there until the death of Herod: that it might be fulfilled which was spoken of the L-rd by the prophet, saying, Out of Egypt have I called my son.

Again “it was fulfilled”

Hosea 11:1 When Israel was a child, then I loved Him, and called my son out of Egypt.

Matt 2:16 Then Herod, when he saw that he was mocked of the wise men, was exceeding angry, and sent forth, and put to death all the children that were in Bethlehem, and in all the coasts thereof, from two years old and under, according to the time which he had diligently inquired of the wise men.

This horrific act is compounded by the fact that Herod was not only killing precious, innocent children, he was trying to kill the Mashiach. This is the difference between good and evil.

Young children where killed at this time just like the time when Moshe was a child also.

Matt 2:17 Then was fulfilled that which was spoken by Jeremiah the prophet, saying,

Then was fulfilled -

Matt 2:18 In Ramah was there a voice heard, lamentation, and weeping, and great mourning, Rachel weeping for her children, and would not be comforted, because they are not.

Jeremiah 31:15 Thus says the L-RD; A voice was heard in Ramah, lamentation, and bitter weeping; Rachael weeping for her children refused to be comforted for her children, because they were not.

This event first occurred when the Israelites were taken in to Babylonian captivity. That event was a foreshadowing of the time when the children would be killed when the Mashiach was born.

Matt 2:19 But when Herod was dead, behold, an angel of the L-rd appeared in a dream to Joseph in Egypt,

Matt 2:20 Saying, Arise, and take the young child and his mother, and go into the land of Israel: for they are dead which sought the young child's life.

As promised, Joseph was instructed to return to Israel when it was safe to do so.

Matt 2:21 And he arose, and took the young child and his mother, and came into the land of Israel.

Again we see that Yosef was obedient to the L-rd and immediately followed His command.

Matt 2:22 But when he heard that Archelaus was reigning over Judea in place of his father Herod, he was afraid to go there. And being warned by G-d in a dream, he departed for the regions of Galilee,

Looks like Joseph initially planned to return to Bethlehem not Nazareth.

Matt 2:23 and came and resided in a city called Natzeret (Nazareth), that what was spoken through the prophets might be fulfilled, "He shall be called a Natzrati (Nazarene)."

spoken through the prophets might be fulfilled -

The “Complete Jewish Bible” states: The Tanakh nowhere says that the Messiah is to be called a Natzrati, but Isaiah 11:1 refers to him as a netzer (“branch shoot”). Since Natzrati means “resident of Natzeret” the name Natzratim (followers of the man from Nazeret) is given to the followers of Yeshua. Thus, Mattityahu’s “fulfillment” apparently involves a word play, although other explanations have been offered. The Modern Hebrew word for “Christian” is Notzri, a variant of Natzrati.

Isaiah 11:1 “And there will come forth a rod out of the stem of Jesse, and a Branch will grow out of his roots:”
