Matthew Chapter 4 (Continued)

The Presentation of the King (Matthew Chapter 4:12 - 25)

Matt 4:12 Now when Yeshua (Jesus) had heard that John was cast into prison, He departed into Galilee;

Yeshua headed north to avoid those who arrested Yochanan (John) the Immerser.

Matt 4:13-16 And leaving Nazareth, He came and dwelt in K’far Nachum (Capernaum), which is upon the sea coast, in the borders of Z’vulun (Zabulon) and Naftali (Nephthalim): That it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Yesha’yahu (Isaiah) the prophet, saying, The land of Z’vulun (Zabulon), and the land of Naftali (Nephthalim), by the way of the sea, beyond Yarden (Jordan), Galil-of-the-Goyim (Galilee of the Gentiles); The people which sat in darkness saw great light; and to them which sat in the region and shadow of death light is sprung up. (From Spiritual darkness to light.)

Again we see prophecy being fulfilled in the life of Yeshua.

Isaiah 9:1-2 “Nevertheless the gloom will not be upon her who is distressed, As when at first He lightly esteemed the land of Zebulun and the land of Naphtali, And afterward more heavily oppressed her, By the way of the sea, beyond the Jordan, In Galil-of-the-Goyim (Galilee of the Gentiles). The people who walked in darkness have seen a great light; those who dwelt in the land of the shadow of death, upon them a light has shined.

Matt 4:17 From that time Yeshua (Jesus) began to preach, and to say, Repent: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand. (Another dimension)

Yeshua is the way to the kingdom of heaven. He also is the kingdom of heaven. What makes the other world such a wonderful place? Yeshua and the mysteries of HaShem are revealed. We will be with Him forever and ever.

1 John 3:3 Dear friends, now we are children of G-d, and what we will be has not yet been made known. But we know that when He appears, we will be like Him, for we will see Him as He is.

Matt 4:18 And (Yeshua) Jesus, walking by Lake Kinneret (the sea of Galilee), saw two brothers, Shim’on (Simon) called Kefa (Peter), and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea: for they were fishers. (Physical needs)

Matt 4:19 And He said to them, Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.

It was also important to help man in their Spiritual needs. I guess you could say, Man cannot live by fish alone. But must also live by the Word of HaShem commanded to be spoken by the Messiah, in the New Covenant.

Matt 4:20 And they straightway left their nets, and followed Him.

Yeshua had met them earlier when Yochanan (John) the Immerser was preaching and declaring His coming. (See John 1:35-42)

Matt 4:21 And going on from there, He saw other two brothers, Ya’akov Ben-Zavdai (James the son of Zebedee), and Yochanan (John) his brother, in a ship with Zavdai (Zebedee) their father, mending their nets; and He called them.

Matt 4:22 And they immediately left the ship and their father, and followed Him.

They didn’t think twice. They didn’t give 2 weeks notice. Yeshua called them and they immediately followed Him.

Matt 4:23 And Yeshua (Jesus) went about all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the gospel of the kingdom, AND healing all manner of sickness and all manner of disease among the people.

They preached the gospel AND healed sickness. The gospel of course is all about Yeshua…..His love to die for our sinfulness and to take it away, His resurrection and promise to resurrect us after Him. The gospel was not the healing of sickness as some suggest. Those who know the truth when they hear it know this healing of sickness was done along with the telling others the gospel. Preaching the gospel without showing compassion for others in their predicament would not love. These healings were also a sign to tell us Yeshua was sent from HaShem. He not only asked for healing…He commanded it. He cared for the physical needs of his fellow man.

1 Cor 13:8 Charity never fails: but whether there be prophecies, they will fail; whether there be tongues, they will cease; whether there be knowledge, it will vanish away.

1 Cor 13:10-12 But when that which is perfect is come (our eternal state in glory), then that which is in part will be done away. When I was a child, I spoke as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child: but when I became a man, I put away childish things. For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face: now I know in part; but then will I know even as also I am known.

Matt 4:24 And His fame went throughout all Syria: and they brought to Him all sick people that were taken with divers diseases and torments, and those which were possessed with devils, and those which were lunatics, and those that had the palsy; and He healed them.

The Messiah in His mercy.

Matt 4:25 And there followed Him great multitudes of people from Galilee, and from Decapolis, and from Jerusalem, and from Judea, and from beyond Jordan.

Decapolis - means “10 cities”. They were 10 cities to the south east of the Sea of Galilee.
