Matthew Chapter 8 (Continued)

Matt 8:16-17 When the evening had come, they brought to Him many that were possessed with devils: and He cast out the spirits with His word, and healed all that were sick: That it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Isaiah the prophet, saying, Himself took our infirmities, and bare our sicknesses.

Here again we see Yeshua fulfilling Messianic prophecies.

Isaiah 53:4 Surely He has borne our grief’s, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem Him stricken, smitten of G-d, and afflicted.

He endured LONG-SUFFERING for our sake. Follow this example.

You can only fight evil with the Word of HaShem. Do we have a higher level of understanding here also?

Matt 8:18-20 Now when Yeshua (Jesus) saw great multitudes about Him, He gave commandment to depart to the other side. And a certain scribe came, and said to Him, Master, I will follow you where ever you go. And Yeshua (Jesus) said to him, the foxes have holes, and the birds of the air have nests; but the Son of man hasn’t a place where to lay his head.

He needed a place to stay. The world was created through Him yet He did not currently have a place to stay the night. What a grand opportunity to serve the G-d of creation. HaShem allowed Himself to suffer this way. Why? So that He can understand when we have no place to lay our heads. Even so the L-rd always provides.

Matt 8:21 And another of His disciples said to Him, L-rd, suffer me first to go and bury my father.

IT does not say that his father had died. He was waiting for his father to die, then he would follow Yeshua.

This expression was like saying “Let me wait until I receive my inheritance.”

Matt 8:22 But (Yeshua) Jesus said to him, Follow me; and let the dead bury their dead.

Do we sometimes give excuses when Yeshua asks us to do something?

Some have left home and family members to follow Yeshua and the Father today.

Matt 8:23-26 And when He was entered into a ship, His disciples followed Him. And, behold, there arose a great tempest in the sea, insomuch that the ship was covered with the waves: but He was asleep. And His disciples came to Him, and awoke Him, saying, Lord, save us: we perish. And He said to them, Why are you fearful, O you of little faith? Then He arose, and rebuked the winds and the sea; and there was a great calm.

Tehillim (Psalms) 107:23-27 Those who go down to the sea in ships, Who do business on great waters, They see the works of the L-RD, And His wonders in the deep. For He commands and raises the stormy wind, which lifts up the waves of the sea. They mount up to the heavens, they go down again to the depths; their soul melts because of trouble. They reel to and fro, and stagger like a drunken man, and are at their wits'

The Sea of Galilee is 690 feet below sea level, to the North Mt. Hermon raises to 9,200 feet. Between May and October strong winds often sweep through the narrow surrounding gorges into this valley and cause extremely sudden and violent storms.

This corresponds to Exodus 14:27 when Moshe was used by HaShem to illustrate His power over the sea. They also were trying to cross over to the other side of the Sea. Moshe however did not have the authority to do such a thing on his own. Moshe himself told us that the Messiah would be like him. His actions again illustrate such. (Deut 18:18)

This makes me think of another point….It says the disciples where afraid that they would perish.

He made the waters peaceful and helped bring PEACE to the disciples (talmidim) worries. When others are afraid, try to help them find PEACE and be peaceful. Follow His example.

On a hidden level this makes me think of those that are afraid of losing their eternal salvation and that they will not reach the other world (heaven). Yeshua says, “Why are you fearful, O you of little faith?” They still did not really comprehend with whom they where in the boat with did they?

Matt 8:27 But the men marveled, saying, What manner of man is this, that even the winds and the sea obey Him!

They marveled and must have been filled with complete JOY. Help bring JOY to others. Be JOYFUL. Follow this example.

His authority was again illustrated. They still did not understand the level of His authority. He was not told to do this. He commanded it on His own authority for the winds to cease. Who has this kind of authority? Only One. He again completes what also happened in Exodus.

.

Matt 8:28 And when He was come to the other side into the country of the Gedarenes, there met Him two possessed with devils, coming out of the tombs, exceeding fierce, so that no man might pass by that way.

Matt 8:29 And, behold, they cried out, saying, What have we to do with you, (Yeshua) Jesus, Son of G-d? Did you come here to torment us before the time?

The Demons know his level of authority and knew Him by name. For even the demons believe and tremble at His name. They knew it was not yet time for Him to cast the demons (fallen angels) into the lake of fire. We will also judge these demons with Him.

1 Corinthians 6:3 Know ye not that we shall judge angels? how much more things that pertain to this life?

Matt 8:30-31 Some distance from them a large herd of pigs was feeding. The demons begged Yeshua (Jesus), "If you drive us out, send us into the herd of pigs."

Yeshua showed TEMPERANCE. Follow His example.

Matt 8:32 And he said to them, Go. And when they were come out, they went into the herd of swine: and, behold, the whole herd of swine ran violently down a steep place into the sea, and perished in the waters.

Here instead of the Egyptians army, chariots and horses being cast and drowning in the Sea by HaShem through Moshe, we have Yeshua throwing down swine into the Sea. He cared that His people where suffering from the Egyptians. Yeshua also cares that this one man was suffering from a legion of demons. It is also interesting that the demons would use the name “Legion” similar to a certain group of military. The connection between the two is further shown by the term “Legion.” Now we know why they used this name…. besides the fact that there where many of them.

Matt 8:33 And they that kept them fled, and went their ways into the city, and told every thing, and what was befallen to the possessed of the devils.

Most of these men did not seem to care that He had helped their fellow man out of a terrible suffering.

Matt 8:34 And, behold, the whole city came out to meet Yeshua (Jesus): and when they saw Him, they pleaded with Him that He would depart out of their coasts.

Hard hearts. Again sometimes we endure LONG SUFFERING.

Gal 5:22-23 But the fruit of Ruach HaKodesh (the Spirit) is LOVE, JOY, PEACE, LONGSUFFERING, GENTLENESS, GOODNESS, FAITH, MEEKNESS, TEMPERANCE: against such there is no law. (instruction)
