Matthew Chapter 9 (Continued)

Matt 9:20-21 And behold, a woman who had been suffering from a hemorrhage for twelve years, came up behind Him and touched the fringe of His cloak; for she was saying to herself, "If I only touch His garment, I will get well."

This would have made her ceremonially unclean. She would have been excluded from the temple and synagogue. She may have been shunned by her family and friends too.

Leviticus 15:25 And if a woman have an issue of her blood many days out of the time of her separation, or if it run beyond the time of her separation; all the days of the issue of her uncleanness will be as the days of her separation: she will be unclean.

the fringe of His cloak - This is the tzitzit. The fringe, the twisted woolen tassel hanging on the edge of his mantle or cloak. These fringes were sown on the corners of the garment in order to remind the wearer to obey G-d’s commandments.

Num 15:37-41 Again the L-RD spoke to Moses, saying, "Speak to the children of Israel: Tell them to make tassels on the corners of their garments throughout their generations, and to put a blue thread in the tassels of the corners. And you will have the tassel, that you may look upon it and remember all the commandments of the L-RD and do them, and that you may not follow the harlotry to which your own heart and your own eyes are inclined, and that you may remember and do all My commandments, and be holy for your G-d. I am the L-RD your G-d, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, to be your G-d: I am the L-RD your G-d."

Matt 9:22 But Yeshua (Jesus) turned around, and when He saw her, He said, Daughter, be of good comfort; your faith has made you whole. And the woman was made whole from that hour.

Matt 9:23-24 And when (Yeshua) Jesus came into the ruler's house, and saw the minstrels and the people making a noise, He said to them, Give place: for the maid is not dead, but sleeps. And they laughed him to scorn.

The crowd at a funeral during this time period usually included professional mourners. This group was usually comprised of women who would wail and cry out the name of the one who had died. The result was a noisy and chaotic din.

I hope if I die that my family will not have to hire someone to whip up a few tears on their behalf. Hopefully they will be able to shed a tear or two on their own. ;~)

The power of G-d is foolishness to the natural man. These people did not believe Yeshua. Moshe also had to deal with the some who had a hard time having faith in what G-d could do.

Matt 9:25-26 But when the people were put outside, He went in, and took her by the hand, and the maid arose. And the report of this went out into all that land.

This was quite a miracle, Yeshua had raised this young girl from the dead.

Matt 9:27 And when (Yeshua) Jesus departed, two blind men followed Him, crying, and saying, “Son of David”, have mercy on us.

“Son of David” - This is a Messianic title.

Matt 9:28-30 And when He was come into the house, the blind men came to Him: and Yeshua (Jesus) said to them, you believe that I am able to do this? They said to Him, Yes, L-rd. Then He touched their eyes, saying, According to your faith it be to you. And their eyes were opened; and Yeshua (Jesus) straightly charged them, saying, See that no man know it.

Why? He did not want all the miracles to overshadow the reason He came. He also did not want to have to leave this area because of all the attention. He also wanted to give discreetly to avoid embarrassment to those he helped.

Proverbs 21:14 A gift in secret pacifies anger: and a reward in the bosom strong wrath.

Matt 9:31 But they, when they were departed, spread abroad His fame in all that country.

They disobeyed. The fame began to cause problems. (Mark 1:45)

Matt 9:32-34 As they went out, behold, they brought to Him a man, mute and demon-possessed. And when the demon was cast out, the mute spoke. And the multitudes marveled, saying, "It was never seen like this in Israel!" But the Pharisees said, "He casts out demons by the ruler of the demons."

Sometimes a particular affliction can be caused by demonic activity. It appears that this was the case here.

Again we see that some of the Pharisees were calling what was good evil. This is another example of the meaning of the letter that corresponds to this chapter.

Isaiah 5:20 Woe to them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter!

Matt 9:35 And Yeshua (Jesus) went about all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the GOSPEL of the kingdom, AND healing every sickness and every disease among the people.

He preached about the Good News, which is all about Himself.

Matt 9:36-38 But when He saw the multitudes, He was moved with compassion on them, because they fainted, and were scattered abroad, as sheep having no shepherd. Then he said to his disciples, The harvest truly is plenteous, but the laborers are few; Pray therefore the L-rd of the harvest, that He will send forth laborers into His harvest.

Very true, so many to harvest so few laborers. Ask HaShem if He wants to use you as one of His laborers. The pay may be low or none put the rewards in the other world are fabulous. J
