Has Yeshua fulfilled the Messianic Prophecies?
Yeshua's Genealogy
Matthew records Joseph's genealogy.
Matthew 1:1-17 - The book of the generation of Christ Jesus (Yeshua the Messiah), the son of David, the son of Abraham. Abraham begat Isaac; and Isaac begat Jacob; and Jacob begat Judah and his brethren; And Judah begat Phares and Zara of Thamar; and Phares begat Esrom; and Esrom begat Aram; And Aram begat Aminadab; and Aminadab begat Naasson; and Naasson begat Salmon; And Salmon begat Boaz of Rachab; and Boaz begat Obed of Ruth; and Obed begat Jesse; And Jesse begat David the king; and David the king begat Solomon of her that had been the wife of Urias; And Solomon begat Roboam; and Roboam begat Abia; and Abia begat Asa; And Asa begat Josaphat; and Josaphat begat Joram; and Joram begat Ozias; And Ozias begat Joatham; and Joatham begat Achaz; and Achaz begat Ezekias; And Ezekias begat Manasses; and Manasses begat Amon; and Amon begat Josias; And Josias begat Jechonias and his brethren, about the time they were carried away to Babylon: And after they were brought to Babylon, Jechonias begat Salathiel; and Salathiel begat Zorobabel; And Zorobabel begat Abiud; and Abiud begat Eliakim; and Eliakim begat Azor; And Azor begat Sadoc; and Sadoc begat Achim; and Achim begat Eliud; And Eliud begat Eleazar; and Eleazar begat Matthan; and Matthan begat Jacob; And Jacob begat Joseph the husband of Mary, of whom was born Yeshua, who is called Messiah. So all the generations from Abraham to David are fourteen generations; and from David until the carrying away into Babylon are fourteen generations; and from the carrying away into Babylon unto Messiah are fourteen generations.
Luke records Mary's (Miriam's) genealogy.
Luke 3:23-38 - And Jesus (Yeshua) himself began to be about thirty years of age, being (as was supposed) the son of Joseph, which was the son of Heli, Which was the son of Matthat, which was the son of Levi, which was the son of Melchi, which was the son of Janna, which was the son of Joseph, Which was the son of Mattathias, which was the son of Amos, which was the son of Naum, which was the son of Esli, which was the son of Nagge, Which was the son of Maath, which was the son of Mattathias, which was the son of Semei, which was the son of Joseph, which was the son of Juda, Which was the son of Joanna, which was the son of Rhesa, which was the son of Zorobabel, which was the son of Salathiel, which was the son of Neri, Which was the son of Melchi, which was the son of Addi, which was the son of Cosam, which was the son of Elmodam, which was the son of Er, Which was the son of Jose, which was the son of Eliezer, which was the son of Jorim, which was the son of Matthat, which was the son of Levi, Which was the son of Simeon, which was the son of Juda, which was the son of Joseph, which was the son of Jonan, which was the son of Eliakim, Which was the son of Melea, which was the son of Menan, which was the son of Mattatha, which was the son of Nathan, which was the son of David, Which was the son of Jesse, which was the son of Obed, which was the son of Boaz, which was the son of Salmon, which was the son of Naasson, Which was the son of Aminadab, which was the son of Aram, which was the son of Esrom, which was the son of Phares, which was the son of Juda, Which was the son of Jacob, which was the son of Isaac, which was the son of Abraham, which was the son of Thara, which was the son of Nachor, Which was the son of Saruch, which was the son of Ragau, which was the son of Phalec, which was the son of Heber, which was the son of Sala, Which was the son of Cainan, which was the son of Arphaxad, which was the son of Sem, which was the son of Noe, which was the son of Lamech, Which was the son of Mathusala, which was the son of Enoch, which was the son of Jared, which was the son of Maleleel, which was the son of Cainan, Which was the son of Enos, which was the son of Seth, which was the son of Adam, which was the son of G-d.
Some people take issue with the record of Yeshua's genealogy in Matthew. The example of Coniah's line being cut off in Jeremiah 22:28-30 is given as evidence that Yeshua is not qualified to be the Messiah. Coniah also known as Jeconiah, Jechoniah, Jechonias, and Jehoiachin does indeed appear in the genealogy listed in Matthew chapter one. Specifically in Matthew 1:11. However, if you read down to verse 16 you will see it says
"and to Jacob was born Yosef (Joseph) the husband of Mary, by whom was born Yeshua (Jesus), who is called Messiah (Christ)."
This is Joseph's genealogy. It does not say that Yeshua (Jesus) was born to Joseph as it does of the previous people listed in the genealogy. Yosef (Joseph) was NOT Yeshua's biological father. He was his stepfather. Matthew shows the royal line passing through Yosef (Joseph). Because Yeshua (Jesus) was the legal child of Yosef (Joseph) by adoption, He would have all the rights and as if He was Yosef's (Joseph's) biological son. So, Yeshua (Jesus) has the legal right to reign through Yosef. If he was Yosef's biological child, he would not have been able to reign because of Jeremiah 22:28-30. The curse did NOT pass on to Yeshua.
In Luke 3:23-38, Yeshua's (Jesus) mother Mary's genealogy is recorded. Pay attention to verse 23.
"and when He began His ministry, Yeshua (Jesus) Himself was about thirty years of age, being supposedly the son of (Yosef) Joseph, the son of Eli"
Notice Josef (Joseph), is listed here as the son of Eli and in Matthew as the son of Jacob. A better translation would be son-in-law of Eli. This is Mary's (Yeshua's Mother's) genealogy. As you can see, Mary's Line comes through David's son Nathan not Solomon! Is it not true that a person gets their Jewish ness from their mother and not their father? Yeshua is qualified to ascend to the throne of David based on his mother's unblemished genealogy.
The place of Messiah's birth.
Luke 2:4-7 - And Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth, into Judaea, unto the city of David, which is called Bethlehem; (because he was of the house and lineage of David:) To be taxed with Mary his espoused wife, being great with child. And so it was, that, while they were there, the days were accomplished that she should be delivered. And she brought forth her firstborn son, and wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger; because there was no room for them in the inn.
Born of a virgin.
Matthew 1:18-25 - Now the birth of Christ Jesus (Yeshua Messiah) was on this wise: When as his mother Mary was espoused to Joseph, before they came together, she was found with child of Ruach HaKodesh (the Holy Spirit). Then Joseph her husband, being a just man, and not willing to make her a public example, was minded to put her away privily. But while he thought on these things, behold, the angel of the L-rd appeared unto him in a dream, saying, Joseph, thou son of David, fear not to take unto thee Mary thy wife: for that which is conceived in her is of Ruach HaKodesh (the Holy Spirit). And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name Jesus (YESHUA): for he shall save his people from their sins. Now all this was done, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken of the L-rd by the prophet, saying, Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, G-d with us. Then Joseph being raised from sleep did as the angel of the L-rd had bidden him, and took unto him his wife: And knew her not till she had brought forth her firstborn son: and he called his name Jesus (YESHUA).
Luke 1:26-38 - And in the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent from G-d unto a city of Galilee, named Nazareth, To a virgin espoused to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David; and the virgin's name was Mary. And the angel came in unto her, and said, Hail, thou that art highly favoured, the L-rd is with thee: blessed art thou among women. And when she saw him, she was troubled at his saying, and cast in her mind what manner of salutation this should be. And the angel said unto her, Fear not, Mary: for thou hast found favour with G-d. And, behold, thou shalt conceive in thy womb, and bring forth a son, and shalt call his name Jesus (YESHUA). He shall be great, and shall be called the Son of the Highest: and the L-rd G-d shall give unto him the throne of his father David: And he shall reign over the house of Jacob for ever; and of his kingdom there shall be no end. Then said Mary unto the angel, How shall this be, seeing I know not a man? And the angel answered and said unto her, The Holy Spirit shall come upon thee, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee: therefore also that holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of G-d. And, behold, thy cousin Elisabeth, she hath also conceived a son in her old age: and this is the sixth month with her, who was called barren. For with G-d nothing shall be impossible. And Mary said, Behold the handmaid of the L-rd; be it unto me according to thy word. And the angel departed from her.
A forerunner would precede him.
Matthew 3:1-12 - In those days came John the Baptist, preaching in the wilderness of Judaea, And saying, Repent ye: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand. For this is he that was spoken of by the prophet Esaias, saying, The voice of one crying in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the L-rd, make his paths straight.
Aspects of His Ministry.
He would be a prophet like Moses.
Acts 3:20-23 - And he shall send Christ Jesus (Yeshua Messiah), which before was preached unto you: Whom the heaven must receive until the times of restitution of all things, which G-d hath spoken by the mouth of all his holy prophets since the world began. For Moses truly said unto the fathers, A prophet shall the L-rd your G-d raise up unto you of your brethren, like unto me; him shall ye hear in all things whatsoever he shall say unto you. And it shall come to pass, that every soul, which will not hear that prophet, shall be destroyed from among the people.
He would be anointed by the Spirit of G-d.
Matthew 3:16-17 - And Jesus (Yeshua), when he was baptized, went up straightway out of the water: and, lo, the heavens were opened unto him, and he saw the Spirit of G-d descending like a dove, and lighting upon him: And lo a voice from heaven, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.
Luke 4:16-21 - And he came to Nazareth, where he had been brought up: and, as his custom was, he went into the synagogue on the Sabbath day, and stood up for to read. And there was delivered unto him the book of the prophet Isaiah. And when he had opened the book, he found the place where it was written, The Spirit of the L-rd is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised, To preach the acceptable year of the L-rd. And he closed the book, and he gave it again to the minister, and sat down. And the eyes of all them that were in the synagogue were fastened on him. And he began to say unto them, this day is this scripture fulfilled in your ears.
He was to be a priest according to the order of Melchizedek.
Hebrews 5:5-6 - So also Christ (Messiah) glorified not himself to be made a high priest; but he that said unto him, Thou art my Son, to day have I begotten thee. As he saith also in another place, Thou art a priest forever after the order of Melchizedek.
He would be G-d's Son
Matthew 16:16 - And Simon Peter answered and said, Thou art the Messiah, the Son of the living G-d.
Matthew 17:5 - While he yet spake, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them: and behold a voice out of the cloud, which said, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased; hear ye him.
He would be the redeemer of the gentiles as well as the Jews.
Matthew 12:18-21 - Behold my servant, whom I have chosen; my beloved, in whom my soul is well pleased: I will put my spirit upon him, and he shall shew judgment to the Gentiles. He shall not strive, nor cry; neither shall any man hear his voice in the streets. A bruised reed shall he not break, and smoking flax shall he not quench, till he send forth judgment unto victory. And in his name shall the Gentiles trust.
He would enter Jerusalem in a specific manner.
Matthew 21:1-11 - And when they drew nigh unto Jerusalem, and were come to Bethphage, unto the mount of Olives, then sent Yeshua two disciples, Saying unto them, Go into the village over against you, and straightway ye shall find an ass tied, and a colt with her: loose them, and bring them unto me. And if any man say ought unto you, ye shall say, The L-rd hath need of them; and straightway he will send them. All this was done, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet, saying, Tell ye the daughter of Zion, Behold, thy King cometh unto thee, meek, and sitting upon an ass, and a colt the foal of an ass. And the disciples went, and did as Yeshua commanded them, and brought the ass, and the colt, and put on them their clothes, and they set him thereon. And a very great multitude spread their garments in the way; others cut down branches from the trees, and strewed them in the way. And the multitudes that went before, and that followed, cried, saying, Hosanna to the Son of David: Blessed is he that cometh in the name of the L-rd; Hosanna in the highest. And when he was come into Jerusalem, all the city was moved, saying, Who is this? And the multitude said, this is Yeshua the prophet of Nazareth of Galilee.
He would come suddenly upon the defilers of the Temple.
Matthew 21:12-16 - And Jesus (Yeshua) went into the temple of G-d, and cast out all them that sold and bought in the temple, and overthrew the tables of the moneychangers, and the seats of them that sold doves, And said unto them, It is written, My house shall be called the house of prayer; but ye have made it a den of thieves. And the blind and the lame came to him in the temple; and he healed them. And when the chief priests and scribes saw the wonderful things that he did, and the children crying in the temple, and saying, Hosanna to the Son of David; they were sore displeased, And said unto him, Hearest thou what these say? And Jesus (Yeshua) saith unto them, Yea; have ye never read, Out of the mouth of babes and sucklings thou hast perfected praise?
He was to possess an unusual zeal for the L-rd.
John 2:17 - And his disciples remembered that it was written; the zeal of thine house hath eaten me up.
Much of His teaching was to be done in parables.
Matthew 13:34-35 - All these things spake Jesus (Yeshua) unto the multitude in parables; and without a parable spake he not unto them: That it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet, saying, I will open my mouth in parables; I will utter things which have been kept secret from the foundation of the world.
He would perform many miracles.
Matthew 11:4-6 - Jesus (Yeshua) answered and said unto them, Go and shew John again those things which ye do hear and see: The blind receive their sight, and the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, and the deaf hear, the dead are raised up, and the poor have the gospel preached to them. And blessed is he, whosoever shall not be offended in me.
He would be a stumbling stone to His people
Romans 9:31-33 - But Israel, which followed after the law of righteousness, hath not attained to the law of righteousness. Wherefore? Because they sought it not by faith, but as it were by the works of the law. For they stumbled at that stumbling stone; As it is written, Behold, I lay in Zion a stumbling stone and rock of offence: and whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed.
1 Peter 2:6-8 - Wherefore also it is contained in the scripture, Behold, I lay in Zion a chief corner stone, elect, precious: and he that believeth on him shall not be confounded. Unto you therefore which believe he is precious: but unto them which be disobedient, the stone which the builders disallowed, the same is made the head of the corner, And a stone of stumbling, and a rock of offence, even to them which stumble at the word, being disobedient: whereunto also they were appointed.
His brethren would reject Him.
John 7:5 - For neither did his brethren believe in him. (Just like Joseph, he was rejected by His brethren. GEN. 37:8 Shall thou indeed reign over us?...They hated him yet the more his dreams, and for his words.)
The Events of His Death
He would be betrayed by a friend.
John 13:18-21 - I speak not of you all: I know whom I have chosen: but that the scripture may be fulfilled, He that eateth bread with me hath lifted up his heel against me. Now I tell you before it come, that, when it is come to pass, ye may believe that I am he. Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that receiveth whomsoever I send receiveth me; and he that receiveth me receiveth him that sent me. When Jesus (Yeshua) had thus said, he was troubled in spirit, and testified, and said, Verily, verily, I say unto you, that one of you shall betray me.
He would be forsaken by His disciples.
Matthew 26:31 - Then saith Jesus (Yeshua) unto them, All ye shall be offended because of me this night: for it is written, I will smite the shepherd, and the sheep of the flock shall be scattered abroad.
He was to be "sold out" for thirty pieces of silver.
Matthew 26:14-15 - Then one of the twelve, called Judas Iscariot, went unto the chief priests, And said unto them, What will ye give me, and I will deliver him unto you? And they covenanted with him for thirty pieces of silver.
The price of His betrayal would be given to buy a "potters field" ( burial place for the poor.)
Matthew 27:3-10 - Then Judas, which had betrayed him, when he saw that he was condemned, repented himself, and brought again the thirty pieces of silver to the chief priests and elders, Saying, I have sinned in that I have betrayed the innocent blood. And they said, what is that to us? See thou to that. And he cast down the pieces of silver in the temple, and departed, and went and hanged himself. And the chief priests took the silver pieces, and said, It is not lawful for to put them into the treasury, because it is the price of blood. And they took counsel, and bought with them the potter's field, to bury strangers in. Wherefore that field was called, the field of blood, unto this day. Then was fulfilled that which was spoken by Jeremy the prophet, saying, And they took the thirty pieces of silver, the price of him that was valued, whom they of the children of Israel did value; And gave them for the potter's field, as the L-rd appointed me.
The details of His death were announced.
He would be mocked, spat upon, and beaten.
Matthew 27:28-54 - And they stripped him, and put on him a scarlet robe. And when they had platted a crown of thorns, they put it upon his head, and a reed in his right hand: and they bowed the knee before him, and mocked him, saying, Hail, King of the Jews! And they spit upon him, and took the reed, and smote him on the head. And after that they had mocked him, they took the robe off from him, and put his own raiment on him, and led him away to crucify him. And as they came out, they found a man of Cyrene, Simon by name: him they compelled to bear his cross. And when they were come unto a place called Golgotha, that is to say, a place of a skull, They gave him vinegar to drink mingled with gall: and when he had tasted thereof, he would not drink. And they crucified him, and parted his garments, casting lots: that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet, they parted my garments among them, and upon my vesture did they cast lots. And sitting down they watched him there; And set up over his head his accusation written, THIS IS Jesus (YESHUA) THE KING OF THE JEWS. Then were there two thieves crucified with him, one on the right hand, and another on the left. And they that passed by reviled him, wagging their heads, And saying, Thou that destroyest the temple, and buildest it in three days, save thyself. If thou be the Son of G-d, come down from the cross. Likewise also the chief priests mocking him, with the scribes and elders, said, He saved others; himself he cannot save. If he be the King of Israel, let him now come down from the cross, and we will believe him. He trusted in G-d; let him deliver him now, if he will have him: for he said, I am the Son of G-d. The thieves also, which were crucified with him, cast the same in his teeth. Now from the sixth hour there was darkness over all the land unto the ninth hour. And about the ninth hour Yeshua cried with a loud voice, saying, Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani? That is to say, My G-d, my G-d, why hast thou forsaken me? Some of them that stood there, when they heard that, said, this man calleth for Elias. And straightway one of them ran, and took a sponge, and filled it with vinegar, and put it on a reed, and gave him to drink. The rest said, Let be, let us see whether Elias will come to save him. Jesus (Yeshua), when he had cried again with a loud voice, yielded up the ghost. And, behold, the veil of the temple was rent in twain from the top to the bottom; and the earth did quake, and the rocks rent; And the graves were opened; and many bodies of the saints which slept arose, And came out of the graves after his resurrection, and went into the holy city, and appeared unto many. Now when the centurion, and they that were with him, watching Jesus (Yeshua) , saw the earthquake, and those things that were done, they feared greatly, saying, Truly this was the Son of G-d.
His hands and feet would be pierced.
John 20:25-29 - The other disciples therefore said unto him, we have seen the L-rd. But he said unto them, except I shall see in his hands the print of the nails, and put my finger into the print of the nails, and thrust my hand into his side, I will not believe. And after eight days again his disciples were within, and Thomas with them: then came Jesus (Yeshua), the doors being shut, and stood in the midst, and said, Peace be unto you. Then saith he to Thomas, reach hither thy finger, and behold my hands; and reach hither thy hand, and thrust it into my side: and be not faithless, but believing. And Thomas answered and said unto him, My L-rd and my G-d. Jesus (Yeshua) saith unto him, Thomas, because thou hast seen me, thou hast believed: blessed are they that have not seen, and yet have believed.
Not one of his bones was to be broken.
John 19:33-37 - But when they came to Jesus (Yeshua), and saw that he was dead already, they brake not his legs: But one of the soldiers with a spear pierced his side, and forthwith came there out blood and water. And he that saw it bare record, and his record is true: and he knoweth that he saith true, that ye might believe. For these things were done, that the scripture should be fulfilled, a bone of him shall not be broken. And again another scripture saith, they shall look on him whom they pierced.
He was to suffer thirst and be given vinegar to drink.
Matthew 27:34 - They gave him vinegar to drink mingled with gall: and when he had tasted thereof, he would not drink.
He would be buried among the wealthy.
Matthew 27:57-60 - When the even was come, there came a rich man of Arimathaea, named Joseph, who also himself was Yeshua' disciple: He went to Pilate, and begged the body of Jesus (Yeshua). Then Pilate commanded the body to be delivered. And when Joseph had taken the body, he wrapped it in a clean linen cloth, And laid it in his own new tomb, which he had hewn out in the rock: and he rolled a great stone to the door of the sepulcher, and departed.
The purpose of His Death
He would make an end of sin and provide reconciliation with G-d.
Romans 3:23-26 - For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of G-d; Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus (Messiah Yeshua): Whom G-d hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of G-d; To declare, I say, at this time his righteousness: that he might be just, and the justifier of him which believeth in Yeshua.
He would bear the sins of the world and make intercession for transgressors.
2 Corinthians 5:21 - For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of G-d in him.
His Resurrection and Ascension
His body would not even begin to decompose
Acts 2:31 - He seeing this before spake of the resurrection of Christ (Messiah), that his soul was not left in hell, neither his flesh did see corruption.
He would be raised from the dead.
Acts 13:33-37 - G-d hath fulfilled the same unto us their children, in that he hath raised up Jesus (Yeshua) again; as it is also written in the second psalm, Thou art my Son, this day have I begotten thee. And as concerning that he raised him up from the dead, now no more to return to corruption, he said on this wise, I will give you the sure mercies of David. Wherefore he saith also in another psalm, Thou shalt not suffer thine Holy One to see corruption. For David, after he had served his own generation by the will of G-d, fell on sleep, and was laid unto his fathers, and saw corruption: But he, whom G-d raised again, saw no corruption.
He would ascend to the chief place of honor with G-d to make intercession for us.
Romans 8:34 - Who is he that condemneth? It is Christ (Messiah) that died, yea rather, that is risen again, who is even at the right hand of G-d, who also maketh intercession for us.
His Future Glory
He shall be King and reign from Zion FOREVER
1 Timothy 6:15 - Which in his times he shall shew, who is the blessed and only Potentate, the King of kings, and L-rd of L-rds;
