Zechariah Chapter 2 (Continued)

Zechariah 2:8 For the L-RD of hosts says, "After glory He has sent me against the nations which plunder you, for he who touches you, touches the apple of His eye.

Genesis 12:2-3 And I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee, and make thy name great; and thou shalt be a blessing: And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curses you: and in you shall all families of the earth be blessed.

The Apple of His (YHVH) eye - The pupil (in Hebrew - babah) of the eye is a most sensitive part of the body. It is the most precious, most easily injured, and most demanding of protection. Just as it is easy to injure the eye by poking it, so too is G-d injured when Israel is attacked. The nations have been warned and will be with out excuse when judged in their treatment of Israel. G-d closely protects Israel just as the eye is closely protected.

As we watch the seemingly hopeless situation in Israel today these words are very comforting.

By the way, this passage in Genesis is speaking of the Mashiach coming from the family of Avraham for He is the Mashiach of the whole world and not just the Mashiach of Israel.

Zechariah 2:9 "For behold, I will wave My hand over them, so that they will be plunder for their slaves. Then you will know that the L-RD of hosts has sent Me.

G-d never breaks a sweat; He just has to shake His hand at them and Israel’s enemies will be destroyed. :~)

In the beginning G-d spoke the universe into existence.

Now let’s take a more careful look at who is talking and who is being referred to in these two verses.

Zechariah 2:8-9 For the L-RD of hosts says, "After glory He has sent me against the nations which plunder you, for he who touches you, touches the apple of His eye. "For behold, I will wave My hand over them, so that they will be plunder for their slaves. Then you will know that the L-RD of hosts has sent Me.

The L-rd of Hosts speaks and says: - (The L-rd of Hosts is G-d)

He has sent me - Someone has sent “The L-rd of Hosts” / G-d.

Which plunder you - which plunder Israel.

He who touches you - Anyone who touches Israel

His eye - “His” refers back to the “someone” who has sent the “L-rd of Hosts”

I will wave my hand - The L-rd of Hosts (G-d) is still speaking, He will wave His hand

Over them - over the enemies of Israel

They will be plundered - The enemies of G-d will be plundered.

Then you will know - ISRAEL will know

That the L-rd of hosts - This refers back to the “He has sent me”

Me - refers back to “The L-rd of Hosts”

What was that??? That just said “The L-rd of Hosts” sent “The L-rd of Hosts”. How can that be??? How can G-d command Himself? Could it be that there are two divine personages here?

We believe that Yeshua is the first “L-rd of Hosts” mentioned, the one doing the talking and He was sent by the father, the second L-rd of Hosts” mentioned.

Zechariah 2:10 Sing and rejoice, O daughter of Zion: for, lo, I come, and I will dwell in the midst of you, declares the L-RD.

Daughter of Zion - this is the nation of Israel.

The L-rd will dwell in their midst. Again we see that this is another reference that the Mashiach is G-d.

Zechariah 2:11 And many nations shall be joined to the L-RD in that day, and shall be my people: and I will dwell in the midst of you, and you shall know that the L-RD of hosts has sent me to you.

Many nations - these are gentile believers in Yeshua HaMashiach.

Zechariah 2:12 And the L-RD shall inherit Judah His portion in the holy land, and shall choose Jerusalem again.

The holy land - this is the only place where Israel is referred to as the “Holy Land”. Why? It is because G-d HaMashiach dwells there.

choose Jerusalem again - This implies that he is not choosing Jerusalem now but will choose them again in the future.

Zechariah 2:13 Be silent, O all flesh, before the L-RD: for He is raised up out of His holy habitation.

His holy habitation - Heaven.

Isaiah 2:2-3 Now it will come about that In the last days, the mountain of the house of the L-RD Will be established as the chief of the mountains, And will be raised above the hills; And all the nations will stream to it. And many peoples will come and say, "Come, let us go up to the mountain of the L-RD, To the house of the G-d of Jacob; That He may teach us concerning His ways, And that we may walk in His paths." For the law will go forth from Zion, And the word of the L-RD from Jerusalem.
