Gimel the third letter in the Hebrew aleph beit can certainly be seen in this chapter. It represents loving kindness and also represents G-d’s perfection. Concerning man it represents the process by which G-d makes man perfect or completes him, or nurtures man until he is in a perfectly ripened state. It can also refer to culmination, as in planting a seed and caring for it until it matures.
Zechariah 3:8 Now listen, Joshua the high priest, you and your friends who are sitting in front of you -- indeed they are men who are a symbol, for behold, I am going to bring in My servant the Branch.
Here we see two references to the Messiah: “my servant” and “the Branch”.
The prophets refer the Messiah as “G-d’s servant”. This speaks of his complete obedience and His humble estate.
Isaiah 42:1 Behold My servant (THE MESSIAH), whom I uphold; mine elect, in whom my soul delights; I (THE FATHER) have put My spirit (RUACH HA KODESH) upon Him (SON - YESHUA): He shall bring forth judgment to the Gentiles.
This verse shows the tri-unity of G-d. :~)
Isaiah 52:13 Behold, my servant will deal prudently, he will be exalted and extolled, and be very high.
Isaiah 53:11 He will see of the travail of his soul, and will be satisfied: by his knowledge will my righteous servant justify many; for he will bear their iniquities.
Ezekiel 34:23-24 And I will set up one shepherd over them, and He will feed them, even my servant David; he will feed them, and he will be their shepherd. And I the L-RD will be their G-d, and my servant David a prince among them; I the L-RD have spoken it.
Messiah is referred to as the branch in 6 Tanakh passages.
Isaiah 11:1 And there will come forth a rod out of the stem of Jesse, and a Branch will grow out of his roots
Jeremiah 23:5 Behold, the days come, says the L-RD, that I will raise to David a righteous Branch, and a King will reign and prosper, and will execute judgment and justice in the earth.
Jeremiah 33:15 In those days, and at that time, will I cause the Branch of righteousness to grow up to David; and he will execute judgment and righteousness in the land.
These passages correspond to the book of Matthew where Yeshua is presented as the “King of the Jewish people”.
Zechariah 3:8 Now listen, Joshua the high priest, you and your friends who are sitting in front of you -- indeed they are men who are a symbol, for behold, I am going to bring in My servant the Branch.
This passage corresponds to the book of Mark where Yeshua is presented as the lowly servant.Zechariah 6:12-13 And speak to him, saying, Thus speaks the L-RD of hosts, saying, Behold the man whose name is The BRANCH; and he will grow up out of his place, and he will build the temple of the L-RD: Even he will build the temple of the L-RD; and he will bear the glory, and will sit and rule on his throne; and he will be a priest upon his throne: and the counsel of peace will be between them both.
This passage corresponds to the book of Luke where Yeshua is presented as the PERFECT man.Isaiah 4:2 In that day will the branch of the L-RD be beautiful and glorious, and the fruit of the earth will be excellent and comely for them that are escaped of Israel.
This passage corresponds to the book of John where Yeshua is presented as the Mighty G-d.
Zechariah 3:9 For behold, the stone that I have set before Joshua; on one stone are seven eyes. Behold, I will engrave an inscription on it,' declares the L-RD of hosts,' and I will remove the iniquity of that land in one day.
This is the third reference to the Messiah in the chapter. He is often referred to as a stone.
To the gentile nations the Messiah is a stone of crushing
Daniel 2:34-35 "You continued looking until a stone was cut out without hands, and it struck the statue on its feet of iron and clay, and crushed them. "Then the iron, the clay, the bronze, the silver and the gold were crushed all at the same time, and became like chaff from the summer threshing floors; and the wind carried them away so that not a trace of them was found. But the stone that struck the statue became a great mountain and filled the whole earth.
Daniel 2:44-45 And in the days of those kings the G-d of heaven will set up a kingdom which will never be destroyed, and that kingdom will not be left for another people; it will crush and put an end to all these kingdoms, but it will itself endure forever. "Inasmuch as you saw that a stone was cut out of the mountain without hands and that it crushed the iron, the bronze, the clay, the silver, and the gold, the great G-d has made known to the king what will take place in the future; so the dream is true, and its interpretation is trustworthy."
To Israel, he is the stumbling stone
Isaiah 8:14-15 And he shall be for a sanctuary; but for a stone of stumbling and for a rock of offence to both the houses of Israel, for a gin and for a snare to the inhabitants of Jerusalem. And many among them shall stumble, and fall, and be broken, and be snared, and be taken.
(See also Romans 9:31-33)
To the believer, he is the Cornerstone.
Isaiah 28:16 Therefore says the L-rd G-D, "Behold, I am laying in Zion a stone, a tested stone, A costly cornerstone for the foundation, firmly placed. He who believes in it will not be disturbed.
Psalms 118:22 The stone which the builders refused is become the head stone of the corner.
Ephesians 2:19-22 So then you are no longer strangers and aliens, but you are fellow citizens with the saints, and are of G-d's household, having been built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Yeshua HaMashiach (Christ Jesus) Himself being the corner stone, in whom the whole building, being fitted together is growing into a holy temple in the L-rd; in whom you also are being built together into a dwelling of G-d in the Spirit.
Zechariah 3:9 For behold, the stone that I have set before Joshua; on one stone are seven eyes. Behold, I will engrave an inscription on it,' declares the L-RD of hosts,' and I will remove the iniquity of that land in one day.
This is symbolic of the Messiah’s omniscience and infinite intelligence. This tells us that Messiah will be G-d. :~) For only G-d is omniscient.
Zechariah 3:10 In that day, says the L-RD of hosts, you will call every man his neighbor under the vine and under the fig tree.
In that day - refers to the day that the Messiah comes again. Yippee!!!! :~)
“under the vine and under the fig tree” - this phrase is an indication of Biblical peace and prosperity.
