TABLES OF STONE ~
                      GOD'S COMMANDMENT'S

"And he gave unto Moses, when he had made an end of communing with him upon mount Sinai, two tables of testimony, tables of stone, written with the finger of God." Exodus 31:18

Between many of our nation's expressways there are concrete dividers. These are not meant to create hazards for motorists, but they are placed there for their safety. Yet as we drive along, we see where cars have crashed into them, leaving black tire marks and evidence of metal scraping on concrete.

This is similar with the Ten Commandments, written by God on stone. Many people chafe under God's Law and, as it were, crash against it. Profanity, violence, and immorality are good examples of such an attitude. The results are similar to crashing into an expressway divider. The offenders cause great damage to themselves and others. The commandments of God still stand as a curb, keeping His people safe.

"Now these are the commandments, the statutes, and the judgments, which the Lord your God commanded to teach you, that ye might do them in the land whither ye go to possess it: That thou mightest fear the Lord thy God, to keep all his statutes and commandments, which I command thee, thou, and thy son, and thy son's son, all the days of thy life; and that thy days may be prolonged." Deuteronomy 6:1,2

God has made His commandments clear and firm because He loves us. His love made it even clearer in the gift of His Son, who came to reclaim and renew the wrecks we make of our lives through sin. Saint Paul write, "For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of him." (2Corinthians 5:21)

Application: All who believe in Christ Jesus as their Savior and live according to His commandments, are righteous in God's sight. Out of love, God has given us these commandments. May we follow them to show our love for Him.

Today's Devotion: "Ye shall walk in all the ways which the Lord your God hath commanded you, that ye may live, and that it may be well with you, and that ye may
prolong your days in the land which ye shall possess." Deuteronomy 5:33
