"FISHER'S OF MEN"
"And he saith unto them, Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men." Matthew 4:19
Few of us consider fishing a tiresome chore. We eagerly await and enjoy every opportunity to use our rod and reel. As fishermen for Christ, we should seek out every opportunity to tell others that Jesus is our only Savior from sin.
"Again, the kingdom of heaven is like unto a net, that was cast into the sea, and gathered of every kind." Matthew 13:47
God has made us His fishermen, and the kingdom of heaven is like a net that was let down into the sea and caught all kinds of fish. How privileged we are to be chosen as His fishermen! We have a joyful task even greater than that of the angels, as we witness for Christ among the people here on earth.
"And they straightway left their nets, and followed him." Matthew 4:20
Let us react as the disciples did when Jesus told them He would make them fisher's of men: "they left their nets and followed Him." Since He called imperfect men like the disciples were, He may be able to use me, and He may be able to use you. It is encouraging to know that we don't have to be perfect saints to be used by Him. He may not make us a fisher of men, especially if we're not in the fishing business. But whatever business we're engaged in, He can use us. Whatever talent we may have, if we turn it over to Him, He can use it!
"And so was also James, and John, the sons of Zebedee, which were partners with Simon. And Jesus said unto Simon, Fear not; from henceforth thou shalt catch men." Luke 5:10
Simon Peter did catch men! Remember how well he did on the Day of Pentecost ~ the Lord's answer to Peter is certainly significant! Three thousand souls came to Christ after his first sermon! Peter was fishing according to God's instruction. We may not be able to win three thousand souls for Christ on an individual basis. And we may not even reach three hundred. But what if ALL believers fished for just a mere thirty ~ can you just imagine how greatful our Lord would be? There are so many lost "fish" in the sea ~ we need to hook and reel them in!!
There is another lesson here... Do you know there is another fisherman? Do you know that Satan also is a fisherman?
"And that they may recover themselves out of the snare of the devil, who are taken captive by him at his will." 2Timothy 2:26
Satan has his hook in the water too! God is fishing for your soul, and Satan also is fishing for your soul with a hook baited with things of the world. We might say, God's hook is a cross. The Son of God died upon that cross for us!
Application: Whose hook are you on today? You are either on God's hook or Satan's hook. Either the Devil has you or God has you. There is no third fisherman! As fisher's of men for God, we need to start filling our nets too!
Today's Devotion: "And Jesus said unto them, Come ye after me, and I will make you to become fishers of men." Mark 1:17
God Bless You All as you "go fishing" for men ~ bringing souls home for Jesus! |
