Japa is the repetition of any mantra or the Name of God with faith and devotion. It has a great potency, if properly done.
God has no particular name. But still every name belongs to Him. The devotees call Him by some name dear to them. They repeat His Glorious Name with faith and devotion, to attract His Saving Grace. To be effective, the Japa must be the outcome of an awakened understanding as to its true import and not a mere blind repetition of an empty formula. It will then serve as a direct means of communion with the Lord, for invoking His Saving Grace and Mercy. Hence, Japa performed with a pure heart in a spirit of total surrender to the Supreme Divine, has a tremendous Potency for the good of the world.
It must be remembered, that Japa has an intimate connection with the practical life of the Individual, who undertakes to perform the same; his faith, understanding and moral calibre have a great role to play, in bringing about the needed results. Let no one delude himself into believing that God would easily respond to the repetition of an empty formula. If, along with the repetition of God's name, there is not the corresponding change in the heart for good, if real piety and purity do not take their root in the heart, then Japa will be ineffective and pointless.
Despite innumerable people repeating the Glorious Names of the Lord, all the world over, it is not any better for it, but on the other hand, it has come to the present sorry plight, with struggle, suffering and turmoil everywhere. Most people do not know the real significance of, Japa. They merely take the Supreme Name or mantra to gain some temporary advantage or to further their questionable aims.
It is the Spirit of exploitation, born of Greed, that is at the root of all human suffering. There is so much man-made misery, trouble and turmoil in this world because of its presence in the human heart. All the conflicts whether political, economic or religious are the outcome of this underlying spirit of exploitation. Firm peace and good will can be established only by the elimination of this viscious Monster of exploitation, in every form and shape, from the human heart and the enthronement of the God of Love in its place. If every individual, who undertakes to perform Japa for world peace, first makes an honest attempt to eradicate the root evil, the spirit of exploitation, from his own heart, he will be releasing a tremendous flood of Spiritual Force for the good of the world. Instead of doing this one act which alone can bring real peace and solace to all struggling and suffering souls, each one tries to justify his own mode of exploitation, in whatever form and shape must be rigorously eschewed and the spirit of "live and let live", generated for the good of one and all.
The Japa has real value only when it succeeds in developing the spirit of Universal Love in the human heart. The motive to work for World Peace is, indeed, quite laudable. But mere good intentions alone are not enough. One must be prepared to pay the high price involved in the affair. He must get himself fully equipped for the task. Let the friends who gather at P........therefore, first cleanse their hearts of all traces of the spirit of exploitation, before attempting to bring about world peace. They would, then be doing real good to themselves and the world; for the Japa, if done with a pure heart, would certainly be effective.
May the All-Merciful Lord be pleased to respond to the heart-felt prayers of His devotees; May Universal Love, Truth and Justice, transcending all barriers of Caste, colour, creed, or Race, reign Supreme on Earth; May Real Good come to all struggling and suffering humanity by His Saving Grace.
