Rating: PG Ford Perfect/Arthur Dent

Summary: In which we find out why Ford bothered to save Arthur.

Archive: If you ask first

Disclaimer: Not mine, my minds not weird enough to have created them. I promise to put them back right were I found them.

Notes: If anything in here contradicts something in one of the latter books its not my fault I’ve only read the first one. If contradicts the first one at all, well I wrote it in the middle of the night, the bunny struck and I had to answer.

Why Ford Perfect Brought Arthur Dent With Him
by Kirana

Now that’s a question I’m sure everyone wants answered. Why did Ford take Arthur with him? Arthur wasn’t particularly smart or quick to catch on. We are talking about the man who forgot his house was going to be leveled.

The reason Ford saved him was really quite simple: Ford was in love him. Not that Arthur knew that when Ford saved him. Ford probably could have tattooed "I love you Arthur Dent" on his forehead and Arthur never would have noticed.

In fact Ford never even planed on telling Arthur. He figured everything had changed so fast for Arthur that it could quite likely take a century for him to process everything that had happened.

Unfortunately for Ford in an inexplicable moment of understanding Arthur managed to realize he had no idea why Ford had saved him.

At first Arthur just chalked it up to his friend’s eccentricity. Then after more thought and several more flashes of brilliance, then one of stupidity, he decided he should just ask. Then with a flash of even more brilliant stupidity he remembered he had to go find Ford in order to ask him.

After wandering around the ship for an hour looking for Ford he decided to check his cabin. That was, predictably, where he was.

"Ford I have a question."

"Yes, Arthur, what is it?"

"Um…well..why;d you save me?"

Ford though about it for a minute and decided to tell the truth. "I love you."

"Oh you lo…what!? You love me? You mean in the platonic scene, right?"

"No I don’t mean it in the platonic sense, I mean it in this sense." Then Ford grabbed Arthur’s head and proceeded to kiss him quite soundly.

When Ford released Arthur, Arthur was very flustered and more then a little turned on.

"Wha…why…when..ARGH!"

The Arthur passed out, his brain synapses over loading.

Ford calmly got a glass of water and though it on him.

Arthur came to spluttering. "You…you…you kissed me!"

"Yes I kissed you, it seemed like the best way to get my point across."

"But that’s just wrong, guy don’t go around kissing other guys. Do I make myself clear?"

"Arthur that maybe have true on earth, but that’s not the case most everywhere else in the galaxy. Besides earth is gone. Why should you let its taboo’s bother you any more?"

"Earth’s gone, that’s right." Then Arthur proceeded to cry in a most pitiful manner.

Ford just shook his head and sat next to Arthur to try and console him.

"There, there Arthur," he said patting Arthur’s shoulders comfortingly, "I’m sure you’ll get over it eventually, the rest of the galaxy is out there, I’m here too."

"He looked up, eyes all red from crying and said "I know that but my home’s still gone." He then put his head on Ford’s chest and cried like his heart had been broken.

Ford sighed exasperatedly and waited for him to calm down, and hoped he’d forget that he’d said he loved him.

Unfortunately, or fortunately, depending on how you looked at it he remembered.

After blowing his nose he looked up at Ford with his tear stained face and said, "So you love me, why?"

Ford was a little surprised at the complete turn around from the earlier reaction.

"I’m not sure exactly why, you just seemed to grow on me, with your nativity of what’s really out there. Now that I do love you I see no reason why not to."

"I’m not naïve."

"Yes you are and it’s really cute when you deny ."

With that Ford kissed him again, but much more chastely than before. That still left Arthur breathless though.

"You know I might be able to get used to this you loving me thing."

"Really?" Ford replied moving to sit a little closer to Arthur.

"Yeah, Really?"

"Well that’s good."

Ford kissed him again, less chaste and more demanding, and Arthur kissed back.

"You do realize Ford I have no idea what comes after this."

"Well after your reaction it was pretty obvious you have no experience with this type of relationship."

"I guess that was a give away."

"Don’t worry we can go slow, I’m sure you won’t have any complaints."

"I hope your right."

Then they lived happily ever after, once Arthur caught the clue bus a couple more times and Ford stopped trying to kill him.

The End

So sue me, I didn’t write a sex scene. That happens to be the first kiss I’ve ever written, so give me a chance.

Douglas Adams owned the Hitchhiker's Trilogy, and all the characters, ideas, and arithmetic theories that implies. Now, I suppose, his publishers and/or heirs do, which is a rather depressing thought. The authors who wrote them own the other fine examples of literature contained in this site. Yahoo owns the site. I don't know what that leaves me with, but it isn't much.
