Dilandau is pretty much the sole reason I watched Escaflowne. It wasn't that the anime was deathly boring;
it was just that once I
knew Dilandau existed, the other characters seemed to matter very little (unless they were inter
activing with Dilandau-sama). Dilandau's "utsukushi kao (beautiful face)" is not only important to explain why he's one of my
top ten characters, but also in explaining why he's one of my favorite characters as well. Dilandau is indeed validated when
he claims his face is utsukushi; he may be pale but to me that just emphasizes his blood-colored eyes. Aside from his beautiful white
(often silver-appearing at times) locks that flip upwards near his ear, Dilandau's expressions make him sexy. Have you seen this guy grin?
There's nothing better than seeing Dilandau-sama put that devilish smile on his face. Of course, the number one thing that makes Dilandau
one of my top bishounen is his laugh. His seiyuu Takayama Minami, though a woman, created the greatest laughter I have ever heard
any anime or video game character make. Yes, I have listened to Dilandau's laughter so much that I can actually do a pretty good imitation.
In fact, I can imitate Dilandau's voice fairly accurately in general. Just thinking about his voice makes me fall in love with him all over
again. That's why I now see why his english seiyuu (whom I'll discuss shortly) didn't do Dilandau justice. Without that great voice, Dilandau
wouldn't have been as half as sexy.
Now maybe some of you have no idea why I chose the background I did for this page. Dilandau loves fire; in fact, he burns several things in
the anime and coined the phrase "moero, moero!" (See quotes page for more Dilly quotes). I love his fascination with fire
as well as his obsession with his "utsukushi kao."
Any Dilandau fan should know what "chiku" means and why Dilandau has a
scar in this picture here. I loved that "chiku" scene, especially when Dilandau hit Gatty for giving him a suggestion. This brings me to another reason why Dilandau
is one of my favorite characters: he slaps people. Those who haven't seen Escaflowne may be like "what?" but those who have know what I'm talking about.
The best thing about Dilandau is that he's crazy and unlike a lot of villains with lackeys, he actually fights with his lackeys (aka the Ryuugekitai). I mean, sometimes
Dilandau can look and sound like he's totally lost it, yet he's still the leader of the Ryuugekitai and has several loyal followers in that group. Personally, I wouldn't
mind following him even if he's prone to slap you if you say something he doesn't like and he's slightly unbalanced (an understatement *sweat-drop*). Those two negative things aside, Dilandau does care about his men. Not only did he avenge Miguel's death (one of my fav Dilly scenes), but he also lost it (his mental stability was really messed up then) when the entire Ryuugekitai was killed. So he may treat his lackeys like punching bags, but at least he cares for them...sort of. ^_^ Oh, and the first reason I liked Dilandau was because of his dubbed seiyuu. It's rare, but often I can enjoy those usually awful voices. You see, Dilandau's dubbed seiyuu happened to be the same as the seiyuu for Genki from Monster Rancher. I relatively liked Genki, so when I heard Dilandau for the first time with the same seiyuu, I was like, "hey, it's Evil Genki!" Thus, that became my nickname for Dilandau for a long time (since in the dubbed version I often forgot Dilandau's name). Sometimes I still refer to Dilandau-sama as "Evil Genki." The best way to sum up
Dilandau-sama is to say he kicks ass. He's funny, he burns stuff, he's vain, he's gorgeous, he's evil, and he's insane. He's basically the perfect villain, aside from the fact that
his true identity is f-ed up. But true Dilandau-sama worshippers do not acknowledge that fact or ignore it and claim Dilandau-sama to be all man. ^_^
