Kowai! |
| Welcome to the page that I have dedicated to the four scariest anime characters I have seen. I might add some others later, but right now I think these are the four freakiest guy you'll see on the screen (or manga, for that matter). Now what exactly makes an anime character kowai? Well, first of all his appearance. I mean, even if someone is the devil himself (like Dilandau for example) if he is cute, I can't be scared of him. If any of these guys were real, I'd either run or shoot them. Second of all a kowai person has to do something really crazy or horribly scary, naturally. Although, I would have to say if these guys were just sitting somewhere not doing anything, they'd still be scary. Finally, a kowai person may or may not have a kowai past. Shishio and Dispell don't really have a past that is really known, so that doesn't really add to their kowai character. Well, since I have only decided on four "kowai" guys, I have given my description of why they're frightening all on the same page. Now scroll down and see why they are kowai! |

Dispell disturbed from the moment I saw him in the opening animation of Tenshi ni
Narumon. I mean, look at him! He's pale as a ghost, he has creepy long fingernails, weird
eyebrows that reach out like insect antennaes, sharp teeth, and he's built like a toothpick! If that
wasn't creepy enough, at the beginning of the anime he had this weird obsession with Noelle that I didn't
quite understand, so it was really freaky. The time he was the scariest was when he actually stopped hiding
in the shadows and went after Noelle himself. I wouldn't blame anyone for running away from him! Plus, I think he had
these powers or something, I don't really remember. It's mainly his weird appearance and strange behavior that makes him "kowai." |

Okay, Kurei is probably the anime character I would deem the scariest. Let's go over his appearance first, shall we? He has these demonic eyes which seem red sometimes when he wears that mask. Did I mention that mask?? That thing is a lot more scary than any Halloween mask I've ever seen. Then, of course, he has the long finger nails again like Dispell, which I don't know why they are freaky, but they are. Maybe it's because it makes him look like he has claws instead of hands. I dunno. All I know is that he doesn't get much less kowai without the mask. That ugly scar over his face needs to be covered up. Secondly, Kurei's "kowai-ness" is credited to his past. Talk about a psycho kid? What kind of kid (three years old, I think) picks up a knife and purposely tries to murder a little baby? It wasn't a case of being too young to understand what he was doing--Kurei consciously wanted to kill Rekka. I don't even care if it was for his mother's sake. The evil grin he made when he asked his mother if killing Rekka would make their lives better was too sadistic for a child. Finally the last thing that makes Kurei scary as hell is his voice! I officially cannot listen to his seiyuu anymore without thinking "it's Kurei!" I mean, his seiyuu does Treize (Gundam Wing) and I had to fast forward to non-Treize parts. Demo I have heard him do Mitsui (from Slam Dunk) whom I've never liked and at the time didn't know he was Kurei's seiyuu, but now if I watch Slam Dunk I'll never be able to listen to Mitsui again. Yes, I do believe Kurei's that freaky. It's not like I scream every time I see him; I'm just saying he's a disturbing character. Aitsu wa... hontou ni kowai desu ne... |

Knives is a little like Kurei not because he really looks that scary in appearance, but because he was an aku (evil) child and went on to be even more aku as he got older! I mean, what kind of twisted freak at a young age kills so many people. It was nice that he didn't kill Vash, but that hardly makes up for killing as many people as he did. He killed more people when he got older and smiles about it as if it's nothing more than cleaning up a mess or something. Knives is one of those "happy-killers" that just kind of freak me out (see how "happy" he is in that picture over there? Kowai!). He also is the only one who controls Legato, which boosts up his kowai factor. I mean, if Knives didn't have some frightening power, I doubt someone like Legato would follow him so completely. Mostly, though, it's Knives' past. He was an f-ed up kid, that grew into a monstrous adult. |

At first I didn't think Makoto Shishio was real. I mean, he looks like a mummy in dire need of new bandages! Okay, let's take Zolf from Slayers put him on crack and then make him want to take over the world. Seriously though, Shishio was a scary person. I've already mentioned how he looks like a mummy, but that's not all that makes he look scary. He also has these red eyes that look like they belong on a dead person or maybe "zombie" is a more suiting term since he looks like a mummy. Shishio was supposed to be burned to death, but for some freakish reason he survived and now walks around like a mummy and can even create fire from his own body (hmm, sounds like he's copying Rekka, ne ^_^). If all of this wasn't bad enough, he actually survived Kenshin's ultimate attack--the Ama Kakeru no Hirameki. That is supposed to knock you out for at least thirty minutes! If you can get up right after that you are not normal! That was freaky when he just got back up and started fighting again. Shishio's death was also freakish (and funny, I thought). I won't mention it just to limit the number of spoilers on my page. The number one thing that makes Shishio kowai is when he bit Kenshin on the shoulder and drank some of his blood! I mean, what the hell is he--a vampire too?? I think I screamed at that part--it was freaky! I've never seen a human on an anime do that. Maybe a monster or something like that, but not a human! What a completely frightening guy! The worst thing is if Shishio hadn't died, I don't think that Kenshin would have ever beaten him... Kowai! |
