KeepTrack (should be registered) of your HIV or AIDS medical uses, expenses, effects, a daily POZ Journal, and a daily mini quiz (Rate today's stress, Rate your happiness, How do you feel today? How did you feel this morning when you first woke up? Did you sleep well last night, etc). You can later view this in various chart forms (pie chat, bar chart, etc) so you can see the changes over a period of time. This can help you find out what may effect unusual drops in counts or major increases. This information may be used (with permission) for research purposes and used to help find useful trends. Print this information to show doctors.

1-800- telephone number that has a menu for a live party phone line for people to meet other HIV+, recorded AIDS information, plus you will be able to have information sheets faxed to you by pushing the proper menu selections on the phone audio menu (push one for help to find a AIDS hotline near you, push 2 for fax back service, push 3 for audio information files, press four to enter the party line, etc)

Why I must serve my own chat and web servers:

First of all, home high speed internet accounts like Rogers @Home cable and Bell Sympatico ADSL do not allow me to run a web, chat or any type or broadcasting servers as they look at it as a security threat, this really sucks as they have the best reliable services, Bell resells cut-down services for small businesses like www.istop.com and www.igs.net (both former ISP's of mine) so in order to get a reliable line, I must find a dedicated line from one of the big boys, cheapest I can find is at ATT ($170+/month)

I have 600+ MB of complete pages and web programs (most hosting is for $15/month for 10MB, I would need 60 accounts, so 60X$15=$900)

My sites are made with CGI, ASP and PHP (impossible to get hosting with 3 programming languages fully enabled that would be affordable)

Some features on my sites are specially installed DLLs or software (Ex: chat software), plus I am able to install any new plug-in or update I wish to my servers as I am in full control!

I gain tremendous power of blocking and banning trouble makers, "spammers" and AIDS bashers by having my own servers running on an internet connection of my own. I can easily fully ban a persons host name or IP from all my services and servers so they are no longer a problem.

I need to have one single IP to point my 12 domain names too, hosting does not give me my own IP, so now I must pay an extra 5-10 dollars a month for hosting company to manage my domains per 10MB account (I would need 60 accounts with domain name manager, would cost extra $300-500/month

Last time I hosted my sites somewhere without a contract (hosting was donated by another HIV+ person), I had all my source code stolen and resold to programmers - Ex: dating and forums.

I need to be able to control the server and banning bashers/trouble makers. On hosted sites, I could not stop the people who try to ruin it for us

I can not run my chat server without my own internet line, cannot run on hosting. I could run the chat clients on hosted pages, but not the server which the client connects too.

I cannot co-locate my servers as I am running ancient software and hardware which requires much attention, I could not afford to even get to the co-located area to even reboot the server once a day, plus co-location costs from $250-999/month (back to top)

To make sure I have money for my computers, software and internet expenses, I do without a car, I do without buying new socks/clothes, I do without friends or socials as I cannot afford public transportation, I do without going for walks (not enough energy usually as I do not eat well), I do without doctors visits, I sacrifice food totally (fasting) some days (I pay my internet bills when I get my disability check, but the last week of the month I do not really have much to eat, if nothing other than condiments), I do without visiting family, I do without going to HIV/AIDS organizations all the way downtown (3 hour bus, trolley car and subway ride costing $8.00 both ways, more than I can afford to spend on groceries for 2 days), I do without fun excursions (art galleries, movies, theater, game centers, concerts, etc), I gave up traveling (even if to the beach, I do not even mean traveling out of my province)

I have been with my new ISP www.IGS.net for 2 weeks now, in this time I have been able to use the service for almost 40 hours (40 of 336 hours = 12% uptime). IGS says they provide the exact same service as Sympatico High Speed (as it is through Bell's service and lines), but when I used Sympatico (had to terminate as they did not allow web servers or give a static IP), it worked 99% of the time, IGS only works about 5-15% of the time. IGS is trying to figure out why I am having this problem, they are sending me a ADSL router to possibly fix this (I doubt it). The last 20 hours I cannot even connect once for just a split second, in the last week I have been able to connect about 10 times for about 5 hours, not bad for $70.00 per month (only $12.00 an hour), aren't I just the lucky guy? I already owe this ISP over $100 (half for time I have been with them, other half for coming service), yet only had less than 2 days of service! (back to top)

It will cost me almost $300/month to run my web, chat, ftp, etc servers (about $10/day), this is more money then I spend on food or can afford! Right now it costs me about $4.00 a day to run, almost as much as I spend on food each day!

I only get $900/month (just a bit more than $10,000 anually) Canadian with my low income disability, 600 dollars of this goes towards living expenses (rent, utilities and 80% of my grocery needs), 50-100 dollars is needed every month for traveling on public transportation and 100% of the remainder goes toward my sites

I am dedicated, have been for almost 3 years, I am now the largest (when online) HIV/AIDS support network on the internet in world.

Here's what my web sites have cost me over the last 2 years just in services: 40 Canada dollars a month for domain names, 35 dollars a month Canadian for residential telephone, 50 dollars Canadian a month for internet, 20 dollars a month hydro, $80/month averaged for parts/upgrades. That's over 200 bucks a month for 24 months (24X$200=$4,800). I only get 830.00 a month, rent and groceries is about 600, my internet expenses are 200, you can see I am already making do without anything like cars, nice apartment, etc, nothing I can do to save more money. I have a hard time even saving money.

I need almost $1,000 to get fully registered as a charity with professional help, this will give me a seal and a charity number to except donations and give a receipt.

Some upgrades are needed with hardware on my server and client computers.

I need to get registered as I have money waiting for me at the Trillium Foundation as soon as I am fully registered as a charity, this will cost me about $1,000 for professional services (i cannot do it by myself, internet laws are complicated) and registration costs.
