Husain Afsar started his journalistic career in Lucknow,India, as a sub-editor of the weekly newspaper "Surkhi" in the late seventies. Soon he was appointed as a special correspondent of the urdu newspaper "Hindustan Daily", Bombay and became the bureau chief for U.P, the most populous state of India. In 1987 Husain joined the "In-Dinon" daily as a news editor of its Lucknow edition. In 1990 he shifted to another prestigious daily newspaper "Inquilab" as a special correspondent.
In April 1995 he covered the visit of Iranian President Rafsanjani for the BBC urdu service. After that "Akila Daily" engaged him for special stories on ayodhya and other live matters of Uttar Pradesh. He assisted many programmes for Lucknow Television centre and became assistant editor of Lashkar. In 1998 Husain joined "Urdu Times" as its Bureau Chief and still working for the newspaper. He is also a photojournalist and got many assignments from other newspapers or magazines. Husain got many awards, North India Journalist Welfare Association awarded him "Best Urdu Journalist 2000"
