Reflections by David Cheng and members of the HK delegates
The theme of the conference was ¡§Sharing Lassallian Spirituality in a multi-faith society. Unlike some countries of PARC, we don¡¦t have to struggle in a multi-faith context. It is because the Council in HK tends to let each Lassallian school decide on his own form of Lasallian Spirituality largely. In order to spread Lasallian Spirituality effectively in schools, all schools in HK should provide a regular formation of teachers as we have recommended in the directions towards realizing Lasallian Spirituality in HK. Every staff development day should be given priority in developing and enhancing Lasallian Spirituality for an equivalence of one day out of 3 days. It is our vision to lead all our teachers to internalize the Lassallian mission.
In order to stimulate our teachers to learn more about the story, faith and struggles of St. John Baptist De La Salle, we propose to establish a website or an office to include all relevant resources for the formation of teachers. The audio CD about St. John Baptist De La Salle for each school can be useful and the translation of the story of St. John Baptist De La Salle in Chinese can be another.
In line with the directions as stated in No.2, we understand that some moves have been made last Tuesday. A meeting of all Principals has started to establish a common constitution for all Lassallian schools. It is hoped that Lassalllian Educational mission councils can be formed in future for the continuation of the Lassallian Educational mission, in the context of the declining number of Brothers in HK.
The next APLEC will be held in the Philippines in the year 2005. From APLEC 5 onwards, the conference will be organized every 3 years instead of every 2 years. As coordinator of the HK delegates, I need to express my sincere gratitude to all our members. We are always working together as a team and are truly Lassallians. Last but not least, all our members have to say ¡§thank you¡¨ to Brother Patrick for his generosity and patience in guiding us on the trip.
