The Nanny Diaries

The book is about a diary of a girl, called Nanny, who studied in New York University. She has a part-time job, which is, the same with her name, as a nanny. She works for the X family, looking after a four-year-old boy Grayer and running thousands of errands for Mrs. X. However, it is not that simple as a nannying job for Nanny. She has a trick relationship with Mrs. X, sometimes friends and sometimes Queen and servant. She has a non-existent relationship with Mr.X, once she discovers his secret relationship with Ms. Chicago, his colleague. Yet she loves their son so much that she does everything to protect the little boy from any hurt.

Although this book is a diary, the style is a bit different. Instead of indicating the date of the particular day, the writers split the diaries into different chapters, using symbols to tell readers that .let・s move on to another affair・. The flow of the story becomes so smooth that it seems like a story than pieces of diaries. I feel relax and comfortable when reading the book. However, sometimes, I may confuse whether the things happen in the same or the other day. Thus, I have to read in more detail so as to find the answer. The writers use lots of words to describe everything in detail, which I can easily figure the images and the things happening. It makes me feel I・m the main character, Nanny, when I・m reading the book!

I would like to recommend this book to people who love reading true-to-life fictions. Though it is not as exciting as adventurous or detective stories, as romantic as love stories, you will feel touched when you know Grayer has made a card and written a song for Nanny, who he hated so much in the first stage; feel sweet when you know what・s going on with Nanny and H.H, the Harvard Boy; feel keyed up when Nanny is trying to cover everything for Mr. X to his wife about Ms. Chicago; feel sympathetic when you see how Nanny・s mother soothes Nanny・s anxiety when Grayer is ill; how Nanny・s grandmother helps her out in the relationship between Grayer and her in the very beginning. When you read the book, people will certainly see you smile from the bottom of your heart.
