Reflective Essay
During the semester break, I watched lots of English TV series, listened to English music and hanged around with internationals. Just what I did is not aimed to improve my written English, but for my leisure. I admitted I felt frustrated once I received my result in written English. So, I was not willing to do anything related to written English as I thought it wouldn・t help. Thus, I hadn・t read any English newspaper, or did any exercise about grammar or vocabulary. That・s why I didn・t achieve any of my goals or improvements in written English during the break.
Actually, I knew one of the reasons why I got a low grade in this subject, as I hadn・t spent lots of time for my assignments. I tried to hit the deadlines every time. I didn・t have any draft for every essay, the essays I handed in was the first draft as well the final draft! You can said, I deserved having such a bad result. I admitted I was a bit over-estimated myself due to my previous school results in English writing. However, I realized the truth once I entered this university and this programme. I didn・t obtain a good grade for every assignment, even my journals, which everyone thought it should be the easiest assignments to obtain a high mark. I lost all my confidence in writing from previous semester.
Finally, I decided to build up my confidence in this semester by getting rid of my bad habit, that is, doing things in the last minute. I tried to set a deadline for myself for each assignment, usually, a day or two before the deadline, so as to give myself some more time for proofread and further amendment. I wrote this essay at the beginning of week 2 and I was lucky to say I could keep my words so far. I would try my best to do it for the coming weeks! Also, I am trying to follow Rodney・s schedule in the writing homepage, that is, read all the readings and supporting materials. I hope this will help. At least I have follow Professor・s instructions!
