In the morning, Zhuang finds out that Ah Si is not on talking terms with Lei anymore. 

In school, Ah Si, Mei Zuo and Xi Men walk around in school with a mysterious 4^th member (who wears a cap which covers his eyes). They run into Lei and Shan Cai. Shan Cai realizes that the 4^th person is Qing He. On seeing Shan Cai, Qing He is all excited but Ah Si hits him from the head and stops him from approaching her. Ah Si warns him to always keep his cool and not embarrassed F4 now that he is a member of the F4. Qing He is also not allowed to speak to Shan Cai or Lei anymore. Ah Si declares that he will force Lei and Shan Cai to quit school within a week. 

The ‘new’ F4 discusses about Lei and Shan Cai at Ah Si’s mansion. While Ah Si insists that they must force the 2 to quit school, the others do not agree to his methods. Mei Zuo is hesitant because the target is Lei. Ah Si, however, feels that Lei is only playing with Shan Cai’s feelings. He thinks that Lei only likes Shan Cai because Jing is getting married and thus treats Shan Cai as a substitute. Qing He is upset when he hears that Lei and Shan Cai are together. Knowing that they are unable to change Ah Si’s mind, all of them leave Ah Si alone. From all these incidents, Mei Zuo and Xi Men realize that Ah Si really loves Shan Cai. While walking out of the house, Zhuang pulls Qing He aside. She makes Qing He tells her everything. 

The next morning, Bai He and Qian Hui discusses Shan Cai’s dismissal from school. They are happy that Ah Si is talking personally to the principal about expelling Shan Cai from school. To them, this means that there is no one to fight with them for F4’s attention. 

In the principal’s office, Ah Si insists on forcing Shan Cai and Lei out of the school. The principal is hesitant because Lei’s father is one of the directors of the school board. However, Ah Si warns him that if they are not expelled from school, he (the principal) will have to leave. At that moment, Zhuang storms in with Shan Cai. She punches Ah Si and rebukes him for doing something so despicable. Zhuang tells the principal to ignore whatever Ah Si said. While they are arguing, Shan Cai interrupts them and tells them she will quite school voluntarily. From the beginning, she already felt that entering such a school was a huge mistake. Since Ah Si wanted her to leave so much, she will leave. However, Lei appears and stops her from quitting school. He feels that he is the one who should quite school since all the problems started because of him. Mei Zuo tells Ah Si that if Lei quits, he will quit school too. He has had enough of all the nonsense and feels that the F4’s friendship should be strong enough to overcome all their differences. 

Zhuang decides that they should settle their differences through a basketball match – Lei, Shan Cai and Qing He on a team, Ah Si, Mei Zuo and Xi Men on the other. The winner can decide what they want to do with the loser team. Noting the opposition’s size and stature, Shan Cai wonders if Zhuang is really trying to help them. 

Qing He laments that they are bound to lose. Shan Cai tries to convince herself that Mei Zuo, Xi Men and Ah Si may be tall but perhaps they are not sporty at all. However, Lei tells them that many schools have wanted to recruit them into their basketball teams but the F4 has always rejected such offers. Lei also shows his basketball prowess and encourages Shan Cai and Qing He to train hard. 

On Shan Cai’s way home that night, she runs into Ah Si, who is waiting for her. She tells him that they have been practicing hard and may not lose. Ah Si rushes forward to her and hugs her tightly. As long as she tells him that she likes him, he is willing to cancel the match. Shan Cai feels all her strength and determination being drained out of her. Ah Si shakes her violently, and tries to make her say that she likes him. She pushes him away. He wonders why she has to like his best friend Lei, of all people. He cannot understand why he would like such an ordinary girl like Shan Cai and tells her not to regret rejecting his love. He tells her that they would give it their all tomorrow and leaves. Shan Cai realizes that she may regret everything in future. However, she knows that she has no other path to take now since she has chosen Lei over Ah Si. 

The next day, everyone wants to watch the match at the indoor court but bodyguards have been placed outside to prevent intruders. Zhuang is a referee. During the match, it is obvious that Ah Si’s team is much stronger. They led the game very easily. When there was only 3 minutes left, the score was 10-0. When Ah Si is guarding Lei, he tells Lei that they are going to lose for sure. However, Lei tells him that no matter what, he will protect Shan Cai. With that, Lei proceeds to score a 3-pointer. Shan Cai happily hugs him and jumps excitedly. Ah Si is upset. Lei realizes that Ah Si is distracted by Shan Cai and calls for time-out. He pretends to be very close to Shan Cai. Ah Si sees them and gets extremely upset. When play resumes, a distracted and angered Ah Si keeps fouling Lei. Lei’s team slowly catches up. With only 30 seconds to go, the score is 10-8 with Ah Si’s team leading only by 2. Just as the final whistle is about to blow, Xi Men takes a shot and Ah Si blocks his shot. The latter stops the game and decides that it is a stupid way of settling their dispute. He walks off and everyone is relieved. 

Ah Si walks on the streets alone until night falls. When 3 thugs try to rob him, he stands there and did nothing to stop them. The 3 of them finds his wallet and is happy to see so much money. As they discussing what to do with the money, they keep mentioning the word “lei”. Ah Si only hears “lei” and blows up. He beats them up. 

Meanwhile, the rest (Zhuang, Mei Zuo, Xi Men, Lei, Shan Cai and Qing He) of them are having a sumptuous dinner at the mansion. After having too much to drink, they decide to lock Shan Cai and Lei inside the guest room. In the room, the two of them has a talk. Lei tells her that he is unsure of how he feels for her. He knows that the rest thinks that he is only using Shan Cai to forget Jing. However, he is doubtful that he will be able to forget Jing. (Lei recalls his happy memories with Jing) He is sorry that his return from France has caused discord between Shan Cai and Ah Si. However, she tells him that she does not regret anything and is instead, happy that at least, they could talk more freely as friends now

Ah Si comes home and hears that Shan Cai and Lei are sleeping in the guest room. He acts as if he is all right with it. The rest are relieved. 

The next morning, Shan Cai leaves the room. She is contented that Lei has been honest about his feelings and is satisfied with just being Lei’s friend. Meanwhile, Ah Si sees Shan Cai alone and tears rolled uncontrollably as he thinks that he has lost her forever. 

Xi Men and Mei Zuo questions Lei about the night with Shan Cai. He tells her that they did nothing in the guest room. He knows that Shan Cai is a wonderful girl but he will never betray Ah Si, as they are after all, the best of friends. He tells Xi Men that as long as he knows that Ah Si still loves Shan Cai, he will not do anything. Xi Men is also aware that nobody can replace Jing’s place in Lei’s heart. 

In the meantime, Ah Si decides that he wants to go New York to study. Zhuang asks if it is because of Shan Cai but Ah Si brushes her off.  

At home, Shan Cai’s father has been retrenched due to the recession. They can no longer stay in the big house and moves to a small one-room unit.  

The next day in school, Shan Cai hears that Ah Si is going to New York. She runs off to find him. Everyone is shocked at his decision. He tells Lei that he is going not because of him but because his father keeps asking him to go. He has booked the flight to leave Taiwan the next day. Angry and upset, Shan Cai slaps Ah Si and breaks into tears. However, she sarcastically tells Ah Si that she is extremely happy that he is leaving. She runs off. 

Shan Cai knows that she has no right to be angry but she is still upset that she will probably never see him again. Lei asks if she really does not mind that he is leaving. She tells him that it is none of her business where Ah Si goes. Lei reminds her that it was her who told him to go after Jing when Jing left for France.  

The next day, everyone except Shan Cai is at the airport to send Ah Si and Zhuang off. Before they leave, Lei pulls Ah Si aside. He tells Ah Si that nothing happened on the night Shan Cai and him (Lei) slept in the guest room. He also says that the person that Shan Cai really likes is probably Ah Si.  

On board the plane, Ah Si thinks over what Lei said and decides that he does not want to go New York anymore. However, Zhuang stops him by punching and kicking him.  

While working at the cake shop, Xiao You tells Shan Cai that she feels that Ah Si really likes Shan Cai. However, the latter tells her not to mention him anymore, as she just wants to concentrate on earning more money for her family. Knowing that the boss will give them bonuses if they sold more cakes, Shan Cai resorts to pulling customers from the streets. Mei Zuo, Xi Men and Lei appear and offer to help sell the cakes. Lei tells Shan Cai that Ah Si had told them to take care of her while he is gone. Although she is doubtful the 3 of them could help much but Lei assures her otherwise.  
 
Mei Zuo and Xi Men resorts to a “buy 5 cakes and get a kiss” method to sell the cakes. There is a long queue for the cakes as a result of this “promotion” and even Xiao You goes to queue for the cakes. Within a few hours, they manage to sell all the cakes available.  

In Shan Cai’s small house, her father is looking for a job and hopes for a job interview. However, all the letters that come in are bills except for an advertisement, asking for a babysitter. As they do not have a choice, Shan Cai’s mother has to apply to be the babysitter.
