Renaissance Architecture
~~~~~~
A new style of building ~~~~
The
rich Italian people (nobles and merchants ) wanted new houses and palaces to show the
others how rich they were, They also wanted to build new churches to worship
their God and show the others how good they were.
The
architects of the Renaissance made a new style for the new buildings. They
studied the remains of ancient Rome and Greece. Their new style was much simpler
than the Gothic style of the Middle ages.
The spread of the Renaissance architecture~~~
The
Renaissance style of building spread from Italy to other parts of Europe. It
changed to suit the different weather in different parts of the world. For
examples, Italy was dry and sunny, so many buildings have flat roofs. Northern
Europe had more rainfall, so the architects built some sloping roofs to let the
rain run off.
The
Renaissance style of the building is still important today. People use it for
government buildings, museums etc. For examples, a Cathedral in England (17
century) and the old City Hall in Hong Kong.
