Renaissance
man
Many
men in the Renaissance time were extremely clever at doing several different
things. For example, the same person was often an artist, poet, architect,
sculptor and inventor. This person was called The Renaissance man. The most
famous example at that time was Leonardo da Vinci (Italian, 1452 ¡V1519).

Leonardo was one of
the greatest artists
of the Renaissance.
He painted the probably
the most famous painting
in the world ¡V Mona Lisa.

He spent most of his life working for two rich families. He painted
pictures and carved statues for them. He designed their houses, churches and
ever their tombs. He also cut up dead bodies and made careful drawings of
human¡¦s muscles and bones, it could proof his drawings.

Leonardo as an inventor ~~~~~
He filled many notebooks with his great ideas for inventions and
machines. He designed flying machines, helicopters, tanks and some weapons too.
None of these really worked. The reasons were Leonardo had to use wood and iron
to make them and also his machines didn¡¦t have enough power.

His machines for digging canals and
making bridges were more successful. He also made simple water ¡Vpowered air-
conditioner.
