LAW CHUN BONG
The 23 year old Sun Hei midfielder is likely to fill HONG KONG'S left flank in
their World Cup qualifying showdown against CHINA AT Siu Sai Wan on Wednesday.
Are you excited about facing the mainland?
I think it will be a difficult game.
The Hong Kong team havent's had time for proper preparation while china have
been training together
for a long time. But I think our team have played well through the Asian Cup,
the East Asian Football
Championship, the Hong Kong-Guangdong interport Cup and the Carlsberg Cup. I
think
it's important that we've got more confidence in the Hong Kong team now.
Hong Kong
have only beaten China once before. DO you think you can do it again?
I think if we can draw it would be a very good result for Hong Kong and a bad
one for China.
Although our preparation isn't enough-just two or three days-we still believe
in ourselves for this match.
What has
winning your first World Cup qualifier in Malaysia done for the team spirit?
We didn't think of winning. We'd have been happy with a draw. Winning was a
surprise. Our
performance wasn't that good, but the important thing is that it has given us
more confidence.
The self belief seems to be improving with each match. Why is that?
I think Mr. Lai (coach Kenny Lai Sun-cheung) is important. He makes us believe
as players.
We listen when he speaks because we know when he talks it will to help us,
not to criticise.
Personally I really want to thank Mr. Lai. I'm not even in the starting XI for
Sun Hei, but Mr. Lai still
chose me for the Hong Kong team. I'm very grateful to him. He's given me so
much confidence. I think
all the players feel the same.
Every time
you play you seem to wear the same necklace. Is there any significance in
that?
I think it's lucky. I scored a very lucky goal in the first leg of the Hong
Kong -Guangdong Cup
and another in the final of the league cup. I wear it for difficult or
important games. This necklace,
concentration in the game and training hard every time is what matters. If you
don't train hard every time,
you can't play at the international level.
