The course aims to introduce different types of Information Systems; provide students with knowledge and skills to enable them to support the development of information systems that improve the effectiveness and efficiency of commercial organizations. It covers the whole life cycle of different categories of information systems such as transaction processing systems, management information systems and decision support systems. Study different ways that information systems could be built and used in business situations, and the advantages and disadvantages of the various approaches. It introduces various implementation environments. Different implementation approaches are explored with an emphasis on the application of proven methods and techniques. To develop an awareness of the professional ethics of the computing profession, the social, commercial and financial implications of the use of computers, the structure and responsibilities of the computer profession. And it provides hands-on practice on programming using various tools. Students will be able to: Make reasonable decisions on ethical dilemma; understand the major potential impacts to society for the professional work they will perform after graduation; distinguish the differences between various information systems and their applications. Identify the various types of organizational structures for IT and roles of the computing profession within the organization; differentiate personal and professional responsibilities. Identify alternatives for building an information system; demonstrate the knowledge and skills in using various programming tools |
