To enhance the development of Hong Kong's tourism industry, the Hong Kong Tourism Board (HKTB) has launched a series of activities including the Hong Kong International Musical Fireworks Competition and Hong Kong Harbour Fest in October.
Pop stars like the Rolling Stones, Santana, Craig David and Westlife were invited to perform in Hong Kong. The government agreed to support the project by paying off any shortfall, estimated at HK$30 - HK$80 million.

Following the two events, HKTB is going to organise other programmes such as the Hong Kong WinterFest and the International New Year Night Parade in November and early next year to promote tourism in Hong Kong.
