          When something heat by fire, the whole thing will become hot and it has the same temperature after a while. It is because if the thing only heated at one point, the kinetic energy at that point is larger than another point. When the atoms which have larger kinetic energy collide with the atoms which have lower kinetic energy, the larger one will transfer the kinetic energy to the lower one until their kinetic energy are equal to each other.

          Because heat is transferring by the movement of the atoms, so we can cool down it without using cold water. The following is to cool down the air by changing the heat energy of the air to the kinetic energy of the plunger.

          When the air atoms go into this setup, the atoms have very high kinetic energy. They crash to the plunger and transfer some of the kinetic energy to the plunger, so when they crash to the next plunger, the plunger move shorter than the first time. And repeat it few times, the kinetic energy of atoms will be very low, so they were cold downed by this setup.

 

          We can explain why this setup can cool down the atoms by the heat laws too, The heat change into work done of the plunger, so the atoms lose energy.
