Building a Web

¡@

You need a computer to house your web site.  The machine or server can be owned by you or another party.  Besides, the server needs the right kind of web hosting software and connection to the Internet.  If you do not want to pay for the enjoyment of the services of web servers, you can search the Internet to look for free web hosting services.

¡@

A web site can be as simple as a single .html or .htm file with whatever content you want to present in it.  You can create .html and .htm files with any text editor like WordPad if you know HTML, which is a kind of programming language to write web pages.  Yet, you do not need to know HTML before you ever start to create the files.  A common word processing software like Word enables you to write a web page in the usual way you write a document except that you have to save it in .html or .htm format.  Of course, if you want to insert hyperlinks and other more attractive multi-media components you will need extra skills.  Dedicated web page tools like FrontPage and Dreamweaver provide you more sophisticated means.  In addition, there are simple, easy and ready-to-use web page editors on the Internet.  While copying is a norm and frequently allowed, to remain ethical to respect the patent rights of authors cannot be any big obstacle at all.

¡@

This web site is built principally with FrontPage.  Some part of the site is built using the online tool of Geocities.

¡@

Often, the process of uploading your .html or .htm files and other necessary files such as .jpg to the right place of the web server is quite a demanding job.  Be patient and learn from experiences.

¡@

A simple distinction between a .html and .htm file is that many web sites take "index.html" or "home.html" and the like as the default home page of a web site; otherwise, there is not much difference between the two kinds of files as far as common people are concerned.

¡@

There are many different ways to build a web site.  Some are very simple; some are very complicated.  Like most computer users, you should be able to draw on your experiences in the website building process.  Make reference to whatever web site building manuals you can access.  Explore the various features of the web site building tools.  If you try, you will be successful.  Remember :  ¦Û¥j¦¨¥\¦b¹Á¸Õ.

Something to Worry About!

Happy Fathers Day!

I do really think the words in this card are very true.  I know I'm a worrying girl to you & mummy, and you two will never stop worrying because I'll never be perfect.  However, I hope while I'm trying to be a more thoughtful & mature person, you'll feel easier as being my Daddy.  Honestly, about a wk ago, while I was sorting out things happening in summer, I've started to realize I'm really an adult & should help myself rather than depending on others.
