Electrolysis
- Familiar with the reactivity series and the electrochemical
series.
- The function of salt bridge.
- Distinguish between oxidizing agent and reducing agent.
- The colour changes of some common oxidizing agent (
acidified potassium permanganate, acidified potassium dichromate and bromine
water) , reducing agent ( sulphites, iron(II) salt and iodides) during
reaction. ‥ Able to write correct and balanced equation for each
electrode.
- Using of Carbon and platinum(not for chlorine) as the inert
electrode.
- The products formed at the cathode and anode and explain
the formation of those products by the position of ions in the
electrochemical series, concentration (only affect the reaction at anode)
and the nature of electrodes.
- The observable changes of the reaction.
- The different types of dry cell.
- The use of manganese (IV) oxide and carbon powder in
Zinc-carbon cell.
- The reason of leakage in Zinc-carbon cell and the ways to
solve the problem.
