Room 204

Accident

One day, Himmy Ng, David Tam and David Wong went hiking. Himmy was a short 14-year-old boy who had large mouth and small eye. He was not thin, but not fat either. He was generous and nice. They were walking up the hill. The boy walking on the left side of Himmy was David Tam, the boy who was as tall as Himmy but was not as fat as Himmy. He had large mouth too, and he was always hungry. The others always said he was hateful, but actually they liked him. And they called him DT.

There was another boy far behind. He was much taller than Himmy and David, but he was as thin as David. He had smaller mouth and smaller eyes than the two friends. He was nice to the other as well. He was David Wong. He shouted from the behind, “Hey! Wait for me!”

The other two boys did not seem to want to wait him. They just kept going. DT replied though, “Walk faster. The sun will be set if we keep on walking in your speed, and we still will not be at our destination.”

David Wong could do nothing else, so he ran toward them. He was exhausted. “Let’s have a rest first.”

Then DT began, “What? Have a rest now? It is 5 o’clock already, and we are still in the middle of our whole journey, and that is because of you! If we have a rest now, the sky will be darkened and we still cannot get back to home. You cannot rest now, if you want to reach there on time.”

Himmy could not stand DT’s series of sentences. “Could you stop for a while? It is annoying!”

Then when DT started to say something, Himmy stepped on a tree branch on the road. The branch was so thick and round that it made Himmy lose his balance. He fell over, not on the road, but over the cliff. He shrieked all the way down. The others tried to catch him, but it was too late. They could only look at him flying downward, downward, and finally his voice trailed off, followed by a long, terrible silence…

“Hi!”

Aileen Tze, as fourteen-year-old girl, used a terrifying voice when she wanted to say “Hi” to the others, but she didn’t mean to scare people. Though sometimes she suddenly used that voice to say “Hi” to you behind you. You had to scream if you were too wimp. But, someone would simply say, “Silly.” Her “Hi” lasted for at least 5 seconds, and that’s what the most horrifying part of her “Hi”.

Aileen was not very tall and not very fat. She was not very short and not very thin either. She had a pair of glasses, which made her look like a secretary.

One day, when Aileen got back to school earlier than anyone else. She was waken up by something, but she didn’t know what that was, and she could not get back to sleep again. So she got changed and walked back to school. School had opened earlier too. She went straightforward to her homeroom 204.

She opened the door of the classroom and say “Hi” to herself. Then she closed the door. Then she switched on the light. Then she walked to her seat and put down everything. Then she went to collect her books from the locker. Then when she was back and opened the door again, she heard someone say “Hi” to her. She turned, but saw nobody. “Strange,” she thought, but she ignored it. She put down all her books on hr desk, and started to do the rest of her homework that she had not yet finished yesterday.

A New Torch

“Wow! What a beautiful torch!” shouted Vicky Woo, examining Winkie Lee’s brand new torch that was painted in pink and a Hello Kitty was on it. “It must be cost a thousand. Where did you get it?”

“It is from my father. He gave it to me as my birthday present,” Winkie told her. “But it actually would not be too expensive, since it is made in China.” She pointed to the bottom of the torch. “See? I think it is about a hundred or less”

“Really?” replied Vicky disappointedly. “It does look like made in Japan.” There was a pause. “Should we try it?”

“It’s too bright here,” Winkie pointed out.

“The hall is dark enough,” suggested Vicky.

Winkie agreed, so they headed for the hall. It was half past 4, and there was no one in the hall. The curtains were down, and lights were off. It was chilly there, but they still wanted to get in. When they were getting to the main entrance of the hall, a girl ran out from the hall, screaming and screaming, and her eyes were closed tightly. “What’s wrong with her?” said Winkie to Vicky.

“I don’t know,” Vicky replied, as she peeped into the hall. Winkie peeped in, too. They saw nothing but darkness. Then suddenly, Vicky saw a white mist passed on the stage at the back of the hall. But it had disappeared in a second. Then it reappeared, and went to another side of the stage again. Then there was nothing.

Invisible

“Where am I?” said Himmy to himself. The sky was blocked by the thick leaves and tree branches, and everywhere was foggy. There was dim light only. Himmy stood up, and started to walk. But then something he found something on the floor. He searched for that thing, and, “Huh? What’s it? It looks so much like me.” Except it was covered with blood, and the clothes was torn. It lay on the floor lifelessly. Himmy kneeled down, and tried to turn that thing over, but, to his surprise, his hands just went through that thing. He could feel nothing at all! And finally, he understood. He was dead, and that was his corpse. “What can I do?” he thought bitterly. Then, he had an idea. “Maybe I can ask someone for help out of the wood.” So he continued to walk again. But he never noticed that his feet never touched the floor.

It took him less than a minute to get out of the wood. Soon he found a store stood in front of him. Then he stopped. “How can I ask the others to help me? I can’t just say that, ‘Would you please follow me and go to collect my corpse, please?’ If anyone says that to me, I think I’ll be mad.” He suddenly felt terribly sad. He had never been so sorrowful in his life before. He felt so helpless; nothing in the world could offer him help.

Then a man came out. “Could I just say something to him?” Himmy thought. So he tried to get that man’s attention. He said, “Hey, please.” But that man just walked through his body! “Am I invisible?” he muttered to himself. “Why can’t he hear me?” Himmy began to cry. “Where can I go now?”

Cracking Floor and Laughter

They walked into the hall silently. Winkie turned on the torch. It was so bright that the light focused on the back of the hall clearly. Vicky suggested going on to the stage, so they went to it. But half the way, they stopped. Winkie suddenly realized the story of this hall. A boy was found dead in a room under the stage, and someone saw his ghoul appeared in the hall. That was why the curtains in the hall were always down and the lights were off. The hair on Winkie’s back stood straight as she thought of that. She said, “Vicky, let’s get out of here. It is haunted.”

But Vicky wanted to find out what was that on the stage when they just entered the hall, though she wanted to exit too. However, she could see Winkie’s face was pale green now and she always turned her head to look around as if there was something here. She did not want to scare her anymore. “All right. Let’s go.”

They turned around to face the entrance of the hall. The white mist flashed across the stage at their back. Vicky turned her head as she felt something, but there was nothing at the back. Winkie asked her quietly and she was shaking slightly, “What’s happened?”

“Nothing,” Vicky replied at first. But then she had decided to tell her. “Do you feel that something is on the stage?” Vicky shivered uneasily. Speaking of that thing in such situation was frightening.

“What?” Winkie could not help shaking now. She turned her head a little bit to see if there was anything, but fortunately nothing was there, or she would become unconscious at once. “I feel that there are many things around us,” she said as she felt herself drown in cold water. She was covered with sweat. “And have you heard of the story about this hall?” Vicky shook her head. “I’ll tell you when we are not inside this hall. It is cold here, and everything seems to be moving.”

They walked toward the door. They suddenly heard some cracking noises from the floor. “Wow! What’s that?” Vicky nearly jumped up. She tried the wooden floor below her. There was no noise. Winkie tried also, but she got the same result. “Where’s the sound from?” asked Vicky scarily. Then nothing was heard. They continued the way down the door.

The way to the door seemed to be lengthened a million times, still they had finally reached the door. Winkie remembered that they had not closed the door, but it was now closed tightly. She pulled the handle. It was locked. She pulled again. Still the door stayed unmoved. Then suddenly, laughter echoed in the hall. That laughter was from a high-pitched voice, and was terrifying. It continued, and continued…

Wrong Suspect

Later that day, she kept hearing someone say “HI” to her. But when she tried to find out who that was, she found no one was actually paying attention to her. And nobody else seemed to hear the voice. And she thought if anyone was playing a joke on her. But that voice that said “Hi” was familiar. Very familiar. But who was it?

It was recess time. Benny, a boy who sat next to Aileen, asked no one in particular, “Who keeps saying hi?” Someone turned and threw him a glance, then turned back to their work. Someone even ignored him.

Aileen turned and looked, and she suddenly felt happy. “At least someone hear it now. Maybe I can ask him whose voice that belongs to.”

She turned to Benny. She opened her mouth, and Benny said at once, “Ah! It is you again. Don’t say ‘Hi’ again. It’s distracting.” Aileen wanted to say something, but Benny interrupted, “Don’t be so troublesome, and stop saying ‘Hi’.” Then he got back to his work.

“I just want to ask if you know who is making the sound,” muttered Aileen, “and you accused me of that when I looked at you!”

“Hey! Go away! You are disturbing me!” said Benny.

But the bell rang. Everyone got back to their seat, and prepared for the lesson. Then everyone noticed the noise. It was a girl’s voice. It said “Hi” continuously. Everyone turned and looked around to see who was making that noise. Some students laughed, thinking it was funny. The others just kept quiet, and were waiting to see what was happening. Soon the teacher arrived, and everyone remained silent. But the teacher didn’t seem to hear the voice! The class had to suffer from “Hi” and the teacher never knew. Soon the lesson ended and the teacher was gone. Benny turned to Aileen. “Oh, please stop that funny hi. How old are you? Playing this silly, naïve game!”

“Oh!” protested Aileen, but the teacher of the following lesson had arrived and told all students to go to another room to have the lesson. Poor Aileen could never put down that sin that was not committed by her!

The Boy

“Long time ago there was a boy called Zugo. Everybody said he was the kindest man in the world, and so he was. He had a handsome face and a perfect body. So many girls were drawn to him at that time, while the light of envy was shining in every boy’s eyes.

“Unfortunately, someone wanted him to be murdered out of jealousy. That someone took him to the school hall, and locked him in a dark room.

“Everyone noticed that Zugo had disappeared, so they looked for him everywhere. At last, he was found in the room in the hall, dead, a week later.

“His death made everyone heartbroken. No loud voice was heard in the school in the following weeks. There were murmurs only. Tears could be found everywhere.

“However, no one knew that he was not gone. His soul was surrounding the hall all the time, but he had never been seen, as he never wanted to scare anyone. He just waited, and waited, and waited, for the one who murdered him, to come back, and he could have his revenge…”

Back to School

Himmy got back to school, where he could remember only, other than his own home. He looked at his watch (still there), and found that it was 7:30 in the morning. There were two students in his homeroom 204. One was in the same class as him.

Himmy walked to his own desk. He had never been in the school before 8:10. It was now so early that the classroom was so cold. He placed his hand on the desk. The desk was nothing but air. He tried to walk across it. His legs were hidden by the desk, and his upper part of the body could be seen only. Then two more classmates entered the classroom. Nobody seemed to notice him. He felt so lonely. Soon it was a quarter to 8. There were still less than 10 students had come back. He wandered around the school. He flew up to the top of the school. (He finally realized that he could fly.) He went to some place where he had never been before. It was so good to be flying. The wind blew through his invisible body. The light passed through him and left no shadow of his.

Suddenly the bell rang. Time really flew, he thought. He got back into the classroom, and found that Mr Hui was there too. Everyone looked so sad in the room. Strange. Mr Hui was not blaming the students. What had he said to make everybody so unhappy?

“Would it be, because of me?” thought Himmy miserably.

“I’ll put Himmy’s photo in my room,” said Cathy, “to remember him.”

DT’s eyes were so red. He had been crying, hadn’t he? Most of the classmates had been sobbing too. “It must be about me. But, am I so affective?” thought Himmy.

Shadow on the Stage

Vicky and Winkie turned their heads, to find where the laughter came from. Winkie’s face was no longer green now; it was as white as a piece of paper. She was still shaking. Vicky started to sweat, but the sweats had already covered all her body. The light from the torch was flying here and there. They could find nothing still. The laughter continued. There was, this time Vicky was sure, a shadow of a boy flying across the stage. Winkie would have been screaming, but no sound came out from her. Vicky thought it was Winkie who was screaming all over her lung, but it was actually herself. She couldn’t help shrieking. The shadow disappeared.

        “Where is it?” asked Winkie.

Vicky was covering her eyes with her hands. “I don’t know! I don’t know! I don’t know anything!”

Winkie tried the handle of the door again, but it was still locked. “Should we go and see…what it is?”

“What?” It was actually Vicky’s idea, but she was too afraid to admit it now. “Oh! No!”

“But we should face it or we will be scared all the time.” Winkie did not wait for Vicky’s replied. She began walking toward the stage. She was brave, but she could not hide the horror look on her face. Vicky had decided to come with her, better than standing alone in there. The laughter had stopped, but there were noises of cracking floor. They were sure that they came from the stage. There was something walking up on the stage. But what was that something? They started walking up the stairs. The light from the torch showed that the hall was terribly old. Everything was out-dated.

They had reached the stage. They looked into the part behind the hall on the left hand side first, since they walked up from the right hand side, and they were facing the left hand side. But there was nothing. They turned to the right hand side, and gasped.

Why Does It Happen?

Soon the other students all forgot about that voice, and they needed not go back to the classroom to have lessons that afternoon. Aileen could never forget that voice, so she entered the room again, and the voice did not stop. “Why does it never stop?? What’s happened to it?” Aileen shouted at the classroom. The voice still said, “Hi! Hi! Hi!” Aileen was desperate to find out why did it happen.

First, she searched everywhere in the classroom if there was any electrical appliance that had recorded her voice and played it again and again. But, except the mic on the wall above the blackboard and some fans and fluorescence, there was nothing that required electricity. So, it was impossible that her voice was recorded.

Second, she went to left and right out of the classroom to see the neighbour classroom if there was anything unnatural. Then she went upstairs and downstairs. There was no strange sound in those rooms except room 204.

Third, she went to see if that sound was come from outside the school. But, no one would be doing that.

So, at last, she came to a conclusion, that was there was a ghost in the classroom. She could not think of anything else that would make the sound, which was clearly not made by human. So, it must be made by ghosts.

Then, she decided to leave that room, because the “Hi” sound made her hairs stand at their back. It was haunting. But how could she tell the others that it was not her who made the sound? Ghost was not a good prove, since some of them won’t believe in that.

Plastic Ball

John Fu, the tallest boy in class and the monitor, entered the room when Aileen tried to get out. He opened the door, and “Hi” sound stopped for a while, as if waiting for his reply. He thought it was Aileen saying “Hi” to him, so he said, “Hi!” Aileen.”

“Get out of this room, John,” Aileen whispered. “A ghost lived here.”

        “Ghost? What ghost?”

“Just then did you hear someone say ‘hi’ to you?” John nodded, and wanted to say something, but his sentence was never spoken out, because Aileen continued, “Well, that’s not me who said ‘hi’ to you. I don’t know what it is! It has been here since this morning.”

John walked into the classroom and examined everywhere. Actually he didn’t know what he was finding. But, as Aileen said, he might find something here. Then he really found something. It was in the drawer of the second row from the windows, the fourth seat. It was a white plastic ball. John picked it up, and found that he suddenly became very strong.

Aileen whispered from the door, “What have you found?”

John was never greedy, but this time he did not want to show the ball to Aileen, so he said, “No, nothing’s here. Have you imagined the sound? I can never hear any unnatural sound. I’m going now. Bye.” Then he quickly went out of the classroom and back home.

Aileen was shouting outside the classroom, “Hey, wait!” But she was shouting in vain. John had already disappeared. “Oh, poor me. Why does no one help me?” She was in the classroom again, although she had wanted to get out. She sat on a table, and was thinking hard. “What can I do?”

But just then she noticed that there was no “Hi” again. She wondered why. Was that really someone playing a joke on her? Or was that the voice came from the ball? (Yeah, she noticed John was holding a ball when he left.) She suddenly said “Hi” to herself, but she was actually sighing. That “Hi” lasted for 10 seconds, until it faded out. “So, has the voice disappeared now?” she asked the room. Then there was just the sound of silence answering her unanswerable-question.

Be Seen!!

The day went on, a gloomy atmosphere fogged the classroom, and everybody in the same class as Himmy. All of them looked so down. Every eye looked so red. Everything looked so depressed, as if they were trying to memorize Himmy.

In a splint of time, the after-school-bell rang. Rains dropped from the sky, which was crying for Himmy. All of these were so touching that Himmy had to cry.

For those days, Himmy was having lessons with his classmates. He could see everybody, but no one else could see him. He was distressed, but he still wanted to stay with his friends, although he knew he would never be seen again…

Until one day after school. It was two weeks after he died. He was walking next to the door of the classroom when someone said, “Hi, Himmy.” He nearly jumped up when he heard the voice. It was Aileen. She was walking toward her desk, when she suddenly realized whom she had just greeted. She turned her head to see if she was really seeing him. But there was no mistake. It was Himmy! “Ahhhh……… GHOST!” she shrieked, as she buried her face under her hands.

Find Him

There was a boy of their age sitting on a chair, staring at them hard. He was half invisible, and looked like mist. He was taller than them, and he was quite handsome. But he was terribly thin. He eyed them curiously. Vicky was standing at Winkie’s back. Winkie was horrified, but she encouraged herself, and said nervously and shakily, “Hi. Are you Zugo?”

However, the boy was frightened now. He stammered, “Yes. What do you want?” He had never been spoken to like that for fifty years, and everyone saw him just screamed off their head and ran away. He had to be scaring.

Vicky whispered from the back of Winkie, “Why are you here?” She saw that Winkie was so brave that she was affected, so she made up her mind to speak to the boy called Zugo too.

“What do you want?” the scaring boy repeated again.

“We mean you no harm,” said Winkie tenderly. “We were just testing our new torch. See?” Winkie had turned off the torch, and now she was turning it on again. Zugo did not move. “And could you tell us how to get out of this hall? The door was locked.”

He gave no reply, nor any signal. He just stared at them. Winkie continued, “I know you’ve been murdered a long time ago.” The boy raised his eyebow. Vicky stared at Winkie. She was no longer standing at Winkie’s back. “But why do you lock us here? We are not the one who killed you, and could not be.”

“…” He wanted to say something, but no sound came out.

“Tell us,” Vicky urged. So Zugo began his story…

Story of Zugo

“I was locked in the room just under my feet 50 years ago,” he began. “I was popular at that time. Everyone in this school knew me.” – “Even now,” said Winkie. – “Lots of girls came to me and say, ‘Do you love me?’ ‘Do you like me?’ etc. I did have a girl friend called Alisa at that time, and she was extremely beautiful. She had an angel face, pretty long hair and beautiful body. She had everything perfect in the world. That’s why I had chosen her. However, she died, in front of me, in a car accident.

“I was heart-broken. I had never been that upset before. She was the most important thing of me, except my parents, who were murdered. I could never find out who killed them, but I vowed I would when I grew up. Just a few days after my girlfriend died, my best friend took me to the room downstairs. He was comforting me, who was recovering from sadness. But he was never my friend, which I learnt from the last minute.

“He told me to go to the room below with him so that we could get quietness. I followed him, because I had never thought that he was jealous of me. Inside the room, I told him how I felt, what I did that kind of things. I poured out my heart as much as I had into him. Then, he just told me, ‘I am sorry, Zugo. It is me who killed Alisa.’ I didn’t believe him, but he could describe the scene better than me. I asked him why; he just told me that I deserved it. He said he just wanted to kill me, but he had killed the wrong person. So he locked me in that room, forever. I was betrayed. I felt so lonely, and I died six days later, just before they found me. My friend had gone forever, and I just stayed here, to wait for him to come back, and kill him.

“That’s life. What you want most, you will never get it. Your friend is the one who kill you. Ha ha, life is like that.

“Fortunately, luck came back to me a week ago. My friend came back to the room! He was standing there, and said something interesting, but I didn’t know what he was talking about. I just secretly locked him in that room, as he did that to me 50 years ago. Ha, looked at his face, how terrified he was! Since then I started to scare people away from this hall, so that he would not be found.” He paused for a while.

“I feel so good now, that I have told someone this.” He paused again, when he was looking at Vicky and Winkie. Then he suddenly became shy. “Could I be your friend? I feel so lonely here.”

Winkie replied immediately, “Of course. We’ll come to see you when we have time, won’t we, Vicky?”

“Yes, it’s good that to have you as a friend,” said Vicky. “I will never afraid of ghost anymore.”

Zugo took them to the entrance, and opened the door for them. “But, could you promise me that, don’t tell anyone that my friend is in that room?” Vicky and Winkie nodded, smiled. Then they went back to room 204. It took them an hour to talk to Zugo.

Vicky told Winkie, “He is so miserable, isn’t he?”

Winkie answered, “Yes. Let’s see him tomorrow.”

        “That’s great.”

Magical Jasmine

Jasmine went next to Aileen and said, “What’s happened?”

“I saw Himmy! Over there!” Aileen told her. Jasmine looked at the direction Aileen pointed.

        “There is no one standing.”

“I saw him! I saw him! He is coming!” shouted Aileen.

Himmy flew toward them. There was a blow of wind after him. He was actually delighted to know that someone could see him. He said, “Don’t afraid. I only want some help.”

Jasmine seemed to hear him. “Where are you?”

        “I’m at your back.”

Jasmine had an about turn. “Where? I can’t see you.”

“That’s why I’m glad that someone can see me.”

Aileen put down her hands. “Are you really a ghost?” She tried to touch him, when she found that she couldn’t.

“You cannot touch me as I cannot touch you,” said Himmy sorrowfully. Then he suddenly realized, “Oh, can you follow me to take my corpse to my parents?”

        “Where is it?” asked Jasmine.

        “Follow me.”

They followed him out off the classroom, out of the school. They walked and walked, while Himmy flew and flew. Once he tried to go through the wall, but Aileen shouted behind him that they could not walk through the wall, so they went another way. Soon they arrived the edge of the wood. Aileen was afraid to get into it, but Jasmine encouraged her. They wanted to help Himmy. They walked for a minute when they saw his corpse. It was kept completely.

“I can help you, Himmy. Lie down in your body,” said Jasmine.

“What? You know how to help me?” replied Himmy unbelievably.

        “Yeah. Are you ready?”

Himmy lay silently in his dead body. There was a blue light ray shot out from the hands of Jasmine. Himmy felt himself heavier. Then he heard Jasmine say, “You may stand up now.”

Himmy stood up slowly. He found himself terribly heavy. He weighed 0 pound when he was a ghost. It needed time to get use to it. “Thank you, Jasmine. You are so great.” He checked the movement of his arms and legs. They functioned properly. “It is good that to be human again,” he thought.

Aileen and Jasmine stared at him, happily.

“By the way, why do you know how to do that?” asked Himmy.

“That’s a secret,” said Jasmine mysteriously, “and don’t tell any other people, or you’ll die worse than you just were.”

The Different John

The next day after gaining the ball John Fu had become another boy. That was a Friday morning when David Wong and Peter Wong had broken the window and the fluorescent lamp, and he was just entering the classroom when the ball that was kicked and broke the two things hit him. He scolded the two little boys angrily and shouted many strange words. He did not know the meanings of those words and the words just came out from him. He did not notice how much he had changed. He thought he was just himself.

Like that afternoon someone accidentally stepped on his foot and that someone had apologized but he just screamed and cried out something as if he wanted to tear that someone apart. He did not know there was something wrong about himself. He was just acting that weird. He never thought he was wrong. Everyone in the world was just irritating him all the time. He had never suspected that was something from the ball he had found on the previous day when Aileen asked him for help. He never knew that the ball he was carrying called the Ball of Desire.

Detention

It was nearly 8 in one Friday night. Eric Tang stayed alone in his homeroom 204. He was doing his homework now. He was paying all his attention to his homework, so he did not notice the door of the classroom was springing open slightly without a noise and in step a long hair girl. She had a beautiful face, and her straight hair even made her more beautiful. She stalked toward Eric, who still had not noticed anything but his homework. She walked slowly and quietly. When she reached Eric, Eric nearly jumped up from his seat and screamed.

“Sorry if I have scared you,” that girl apologized immediately, “but I just want to ask if you have seen a torch here. I’ve lost it somewhere around this classroom. It is red in colour and has a Hello Kitty figure on it.”

Eric, whose heart was still beating very fast, replied in a whisper, “I’m afraid not, miss. I have never seen such a thing in our classroom. Maybe it is in the next classroom.”

“Oh, I see,” she said quietly, as if muttering to herself only. After a while, she asked why Eric was doing his homework here at that time.

“I was given a detention,” Eric told her miserably. “The teacher said he saw me break that fluorescent lamp.” He pointed to the fluorescent lamp at the back of the classroom. “But it was not me who broke it. I’m innocent. But the teacher punished me.”

“Oh, what a teacher!” she exclaimed. Then she paused again before she continued, “I’d better go now. I want to find the torch first.” Then she started to leave.

“Could you stay with me for a while?” Eric had never felt so ashamed in his life. He did not want to say it, but the words just slipped out from his mouth. His heart beat faster and faster now, and sweat rolled down his cheeks. “I mean… I mean could you stay longer?” He could not lift his head to face her, but he could feel her eyes staring at him. His face was terribly hot. “I’m very lonely staying alone here…”

She took a glance at her watch, but she did not say a word. Eric beamed at her quickly. Before she noticed, he turned back to his book. “Could you?” he whispered.

“Maybe you let me find my torch first, and I come back to find you.”

Eric thought for a while. “All right. But please come back quickly.”

        “Okay.” And there she went.

Before she stepped out of the classroom, Eric asked shyly, “I wonder if you could tell me your name.”

She smiled, and said, “I’m Jacqueline.” And she was gone.

“Oh! Jacqueline. What a beautiful name!” thought Eric. He knew he should not think of any other girls now, since he had already had a girl friend who was good enough for him.

Jacqueline was back faster than he had thought. She pushed open the door with her snow-white hand, and walked in elegantly. She looked very upset.

“What’s your problem?” Eric asked tenderly.

“I lost it, as I had lost everything,” she answered sadly. “As I had lost him.”

“Who?” The curiosity was always great in the unsuitable minutes.

“Don’t make me tell it again. It’s painful.”

“But you must tell before you can get rid of it.”

Jacqueline thought for a while, thinking if she could trust Eric. He did not look like the type that was not trustworthy. Maybe she could ask him for help. “That’s a year ago…”

Only Lies Are Beautiful

“A year ago, when I was studying in this school, I met Douglas. He was not a handsome boy. He was not a clever guy, either. But he had a kind heart. He was my angel. I fell in love with him when I first met him.

“At that time my best friend was Shelagh, the prettiest and cleverest girl in our class. She encouraged me to date with Douglas. She said, ‘If you want to get him, get him now, before he goes out with anybody else.’ And so I went to ask him out. It was odd that a girl asked a boy to go out with her, but I could not let him go away with someone else, so there was no other better method.

“So I went to him. He was surprised that I wanted to date with him. I wondered if he was acting or it was really the first time a girl asked him out at that time. You know, he was kind enough to be anybody’s boyfriend. Though he accepted me.

“I could not tell how happy I was at that time. Once he had just said ‘Yes’, I walked out to the corridor at once and couldn’t help screaming and laughing. Luckily there were not too many people around. But the people standing there must think that I was mad. And I was, but not mental, of course.

“We became a pair of good friends, and I could feel that he loved me too. The more I knew him, the more I loved him. I thought my life was like that forever.

“Shelagh sometimes went out with us, and Douglas never minded. She always thought that she was interrupting us, but I never let her go away. I wanted to share my happiness with her. And she often congratulated me when Douglas wasn’t there. Those were my happiest time.

“And the most enjoyable part of it was, once I asked him if he loved me, and you know what he replied? He said without hesitation, ‘Yes, of course I love you!’

“But, how would I know they’re all a pack of lies, all from my lover and my best friend? How could I have guessed?”

Betrayal

“The day I learnt that Douglas did not actually love me was two days ago, after we had dated for nearly a year, after I had been to study aboard a month ago.

“Of course he stayed in Hong Kong while I was studying in Canada. We kept sending letters to each other and we often chatted online. He said he would fly to me when he had time.

“But, I came back to Hong Kong two days ago. I wanted to give him a surprise. I set down everything before I found him. I went to his house, and prepared what to say to him, and wondered how surprised he would be. I liked his look when he was surprised.

“I pressed the bell, and a song was played. There was no answer except the melody from the bell. I pressed again. There was still no answer. I tried the door, and it was not locked. I opened it, and gasped. You know what? I saw them kissing in front of me! They were surprised to see me, and I was shocked to see them! You know what I felt at that time? No, you will never know. I felt as if I was drowning in a pool of freezing water. Tears were running out from my eyes, although I had held them behind. Looked at their face. They looked at me with their jaws never got back to their places. Then I realized what was happening. I had never felt so betrayed in my life! I…”

“Who’s the one he was kissing with?” Eric interrupted.

“Oh! Of course it was Shelagh! Who else would that be? What she called me? ‘My best friend’? Rubbish! She was fooling me since the day I asked Douglas out with me! Since the day I thought I would be staying with Douglas for the rest of my life!”

        “Oh, calm down, cool down.”

Jacqueline could not help crying now. Tears were rushing out from her beautiful eyes. She could not make a sound for 5 minutes except crying.

“Oh, dear!” Eric could not find anything to comfort her.

The Ball

Lying on his back in his bed, John Fu was playing the white plastic ball with his fingers and his mind started wondering away from his own home. He did not know where had his mind gone. All he knew was just he was not himself.

9 O’clock

The school bell had rung for 9 o’clock. Eric looked around the classroom. The broken fluorescent lamp was still on the table below it, lying still. The sobbing sound from the long hair girl had not yet stopped. She was a miserable girl. God had shown no mercy to her. But that was life, wasn’t it? Maybe it was good to her. At last, the girl stood up and said, “I have to go now. Thanks for listening to my stupid story.” Then she ran out from the classroom, and into the cruel dark world outside. There left Eric standing beside the table where he had been doing his homework.

Then another more beautiful girl appeared. She rushed into the classroom and shouted, “Have you seen a girl with long, straight hair?” She seemed in a hurry.

“She had just left,” Eric told her. Then before that girl said anything, Eric asked, “Who are you?”

“I’m Shelagh,” the girl told him. “I wonder where she has gone. She is very ill.”

“What?” Eric could not believe his ears. “You’re Shelagh? The one who has stolen Jacqueline’s boyfriend?”

“How dare you say that? Douglas and I had been going out for 3 years, and she is the one who interrupted us!” she screamed, as she was running out of the classroom.

“Hey! What happens to Jacqueline, then?” he shouted from the classroom. But Shelagh had disappeared already. “How do I know who’s telling the truth?” he said to himself. “That was really a complicated question.” He paused. Then he realized, “That isn’t my problem. Why should I bother?” So he packed all his books on the table and left. He was going to meet his girlfriend out of the school.

The New Fluorescent Lamp

On Saturday morning, in the room 204, the broken fluorescent lamp was taken away and a new fluorescent lamp was placed. It gave out paper-white light as the other gave only yellowish-white light. Maybe it was because this was new. Or maybe there was another reason.

It Happens

Christy Tsoi’s group was going to discuss about how they should do the project. Queenie Wong and Amy Li were in her group.

Amy was the first one who approached the classroom. She went into the classroom and put down all her things. There was no one else, so she took a book out of her bag and started to read it. Then behind her there was a flock of mist. It was white in colour and at first it was very non-dense. Then after a few seconds there was a shape forming. The white particles became denser. And soon the mist formed a man-shape.

Amy still did not notice there was a man made by mist standing behind her. Her book was very attractive. But that thing at her back started to move its arms and legs. Then, it grabbed Amy. Amy was lifted to the mid air, when she realized what was happening. She screamed and shrieked, but no one could help her. It held her high, and began its terrible chuckling. “No one can get away from the Lord of White!” he said in his harsh, hoarse voice. “You have to be the slave of the Lord of White!”

Poor Amy could not get away from his tight grab. She kicked and struggled in vain. He chuckled again. “You better stop that,” said it. “It’ll do you no good.”

“When will you release me?” trembling she asked.

“Release you?” roared the Lord of White, chuckling. “I will, until the day you die. Ha ha ha…”

Amy could not hold the tears anymore. They kept rushing out from her eyes. Nothing she could do to stop them.

He continued, “All right, I’ll let you do a thing for me now. Go and fetch me something to eat.” Amy’s leg was not under her control. They were shaking, and she could not get up. He shouted again, “Go now!”

Her legs just stayed at its place and did not move an inch. The Lord of White was going to beat her when the door sprang open and in walk another girl.

Dark as Night

“What’s happening?” Christy asked Amy. Amy pointed at the fluorescent lamp at the back. “What’s matter with it?”

Amy opened her mouth, but no sound came out. She wanted to tell Christy that the Lord of White had gone back into the fluorescent lamp. However, she was still very frightened. She could not help shaking. Christy went to examine the lamp, but Amy caught her leg. “Don’t go…”

“Why?” Christy stopped walking and turned to Amy. “What’s the matter with it?” She turned to look at the lamp again. Then in a splint second, the door was closed with a bang and the light shimmered. The windows were closed and window blinds was down. Then the room became a dark pitch, except a glow generating at the back of the classroom. The mist became a man again. Christy gasped, “What are you?”

“How impolite you are, little girl,” said the Lord of White. “I am the Lord of White, and everyone in the world have to serve me.”

“Why?” Instead of showing she was frightened, Christy decided to keep on asking questions.

“Because I’m the strongest man in the world.”

“How can you make everyone to be your servant?”

        “I have my method.”

        “Someone will fight you.”

“I’ll be able to avoid that.”

        “But how…”

“Hey!” as the Lord of White shouted, he rushed to grab Christy. There was no time for Christy to shout for help. “Stop asking question, or you’ll have much more to suffer.” He squeezed Christy in his hand. Then Christy slipped away from his hand and hide under the table next to Amy. “Ha ha. You little girls cannot hide away from me.” Then he began stalking them.

Christy quickly took out her mobile phone and dialled to call Queenie. However, the light from the phone had attracted the Lord of White, since everywhere was terribly dark. He said slyly, “I see you.”

Christy ignored him, and waiting nervously for Queenie to answer the call. Then she heard some ringing sound out of the classroom. Her hope rose. Meanwhile, the Lord of White was already at the side of their table. He turned over the table, and Christy and Amy ran to hide under another table at once. “What is the punishment of the loser? Any suggestion?” said he, chuckling.

But the ringing sound soon faded out. It was not Queenie. “When ill she arrive?” thought Christy bitterly. Amy suddenly screamed on the left hand side of Christy. He had found them again. “Why don’t we get out of this classroom?” thought Christy. Then, she ran to the door, and turned the knob, but the door won’t open.

“Don’t try to get away. It’s a fun game.” He was jumping toward Christy. His jump liked he was flying. Christy picked up a chair and threw it at him, but missed. She ducked when he reached her. Then she ran to Amy’s side.

“Why there aren’t a single light?” thought Christy. Then there was some knocking sound from the door before it was sprung open.

The Last Hope is Destroyed

It was Queenie standing in the doorframe. Lights had returned, and the window blind was up again. The Lord of White was nowhere to be seen. “Oh, Queenie! You’ve arrived in time.”

        “What? What’s happening?”

“Let’s get out of this classroom first. I’ll tell you later.”

They were walking out when the door was closed again. “Oh, no! Not again!”

This time the Lord of White just appeared behind the door. The light went out. There was suddenly a rope tying them up. Then, he said, “Good. One more person to help me. I’m glad that you had asked her to come.” He smiled at Christy.

“Who are you?” Queenie burst out.

“Don’t you know who I’m?” repeated the Lord of White again for the third time. “I’m the Lord of White…”

Suddenly, Queenie jumped up and threw the rope to him, trying to tie him up. The rope had circled the man’s body, and Queenie gave it a pull, the knot was tight. Then, Queenie went to untie Christy and Amy. Christy thanked her. “So, what are we going to do with him?” asked Amy. The tears had stopped rushing out from her.

“I think we better go away first,” suggested Christy. So they headed for the door. However, the door was locked again.

“Do you think you can get away that easy?” the Lord of White laughed. “No one ever get away from me whenever I have caught them. Why would you be excepted?” Then Christy pointed out that he was tied up. He laughed again. “So?” He lifted his hands easily, and the rope broken as if they were made in paper. “You three can never escape from me. You have to serve me from now on.”

Escape!

They were made sitting on three chairs, listening to the Lord of White’s endless speech. He was planning to overwhelm the whole world with the help of them three secondary school students. But, Christy was planning how to escape from him. But the door was locked and would not open. How could they escape? Maybe they could jump out from the window. If they made it, they may not be dead, since it was only the second floor. They would be seriously injured, though. What about breaking the window out to the corridor? That would be possible. But getting through the window frame was difficult. But, it was the only method she could think of now. She wanted to tell Queenie and Amy her plan, but that may get the Lord of White’s attention. So she signalled them, and she stood up and began walking toward the window. The Lord of White was busy writing on the board, so he did not notice she was walking. She slid open the window carefully, avoid any sound was made. Luckily, the window slid open smoothly, and she could feel the fresh air blowing outside. She never found that the air was so sweet before. Queenie knew immediately what Christy was doing, so she quickly paced toward her quietly. Amy did not know what they were doing, but she followed them.

Suddenly, the Lord of White turned his head. He found them climbing out from the classroom. He roared. Christy and Queenie turned and looked. They saw that he was rushing toward them. Amy was already out of the classroom. She went to find a broom and gave it to Queenie was defending Christy who was climbing out. The Lord of White threw a table at Queenie. Queenie jumped out of the way of the table. Then she quickly climbed through the window frame. She was nearly success when the Lord of White got hold of her knee. She kicked hard, but he would not give way. Christy and Amy caught Queenie’s body and hands, pulling her away from him. Then, Amy threw a book at the Lord of White, and he loosed hold of Queenie, who fell forward and dropped to the ground. Though she was not hurt. And quickly, they went away from the classroom. They could still hear the roar from the Lord of White when they were in the stairs, but he was not tailing them. Soon they were not in the school.

Not Gone

In the classroom, the Lord of White reformed back to a fluorescent lamp at the back of the classroom, waiting for someone to be his servant.

A Bottle of Water

Using all her strength, Amy Fung had finally succeeded in opening the door of the locker. However, the books inside dropped out and Amy had to stop back in order not to be hit. She felt like crying when the last book in the locker had fallen out. Why would the one who used the same locker with her always put the books into the locker like that? She was sighing when a bottle of water flashed a light into her eyes. She raised her head, and saw it was just an ordinary bottle lying inside her locker. But it should not be hers, thought Amy confusingly. Ruby would not put the bottle into the locker and there was a cartoon on Ruby’s bottle of water. The bottle lying in the locker was just the one with the word ‘Bonaqua’ on it. The bottle was half full, and there were water vapour on the surface of the bottle. “Whose is it?” Amy asked herself dreamily. Had she asked anyone to open the locker for her? Or was that Ruby who put the bottle into the locker? Why did she always forget things so easily?

It was 7:40 a.m. on Monday, Day 6. There was no one around when she was opening the locker. The door was a little bit too tight in its frame and she had to pull it open difficultly. She took out the bottle to examine it after the books had fallen out. But then she just put it aside and patiently returned the books into its old place. “But the water is cool,” murmured Amy as she was putting the books back. She had nearly finished when she suddenly realized that she had not taken out the books that she needed today. “Oh my goodness. How careless I am!” she blamed herself angrily. Luckily her class was having Physical Education lesson in the second and third lesson so she only had to take the Chinese History textbook for the first lesson. She was putting in all the books when she remembered the bottle. “What should I do with it?” she spoke out aloud. She gazed around to search for help, but still no one was around. “Maybe I can take this down first,” she muttered. After walking a few steps, she realized that she had not locked the locker. She found the lock was on the floor, and so she bent down to pick the lock and the bottle rolled down from the book to the ground. Then when she wanted to pick it up she kicked the lock farther away. And then her book fell to the ground. “Rotten luck,” she thought bitterly. Slowly she went to collect the three things on the floor. When she was standing again, she suggested, “Maybe I’d better leave the bottle in the locker. Someone might find it there if they had lost it.” And so she put the bottle back into the locker and she locked the locker and she went away with her book.

The First Explode in Class

John still found lots of irritating things around this morning. He could not help shouting and thundering all the time. That morning Miss Wong, the Chinese History teacher, was absent and everyone was very noisy in the room 204. Keeping silence for the whole morning, John suddenly shouted in an annoyed sound, “Hey! Keep quiet!”

Then someone chuckled, thinking it was one of John’s jokes. John was terribly serious. “Who is laughing?” he asked. After he had figured out it was Charlie who had laughed at him, he gave him hard punch in the stomach without warning. Everyone was watching. Picking up Charlie by his collar with a newfound strength of John, John whispered in Charlie’s ear, “Don’t dare you laughing at me again.” Finished whispering he threw Charlie back on his seat. “Okay. Anyone laughed at me just now?” he threatened the class in a voice which he could never have made in the normal him. He glanced around the classroom. No one dared making a sound. Then he paced back to his seat and he shivered and he asked Catherine, who looked startled by him, “Where are we just then?”

Then he noticed the whole class was staring at him. “What’s the problem with you? Why are you all staring at me like that?” Now his voice was much less serious than before. All the others turned back to their own work as John was wondering what had happened. He did not know he had punched Charlie. He did not know he had threatened the class just then. He just remembered chatting with Catherine, which was impossible since he had made not a sound except those three sentences. Afraid of the potential of John, Catherine quickly thought of something to say.

Just before the end of the lesson he screamed again. He had been remaining silent and suddenly he gave out a series of evil, chilling laughter, as if he had succeeded in committing the most difficult crimes in the world. Everyone did not dare to turn to look what was happening. John did not stop chuckling until the ball had rung and he said in a sudden, “I have to go to take the key for the PE lesson.” Everybody was wondering what had happened to John that made him mad. But they did not have the courage to stand against him, or they thought he was just joking. But wasn’t the joke a little bit too real?

Disappear

After the first lesson, the class went to have Physical Education lesson. Today, the boys were having free lesson as usual. Some of them were playing basketball. Some were playing volleyball. Some were playing table tennis. Some were just walking around, chatting and laughing.

John Chin and Nelson Chow were running around the covered playground. Nelson was the one chasing John. They had been chasing each other for about ten minutes now. Nelson felt exhausted, and so he sat down on a chair at the side of the playground. In front of Nelson John turned his head, to see if Nelson was still chasing him or not. When he saw Nelson had sat down, he ran backward to meet him. Then, when he stepped on the fifth tiles from the wall, the tenth from the tuck shop, there was suddenly a flash of light. Then, he disappeared from the playground. But, no one noticed the flash of light and his disappearance except Nelson. He had not seen him going, but he just noticed that John had disappeared. But how? He did not know. Not until that afternoon.

Not Ruby’s Or Anyone’s

After changing back into the school uniform, John Fu was back in the classroom alone. There the Lord of White came out from the fluorescent lamp. The Lord of White could be seen in the classroom only, so the students outside would notice nothing.

It was the Lord of White who was saying to John, whose face was showing a wicked smile, “Yes, my master. I know what to do.” And he was gone back to the lamp. Then in stepped Amy Fung with a pile of books. The wicked grin on John’s face had faded. He was sitting on his seat and pretending doing homework. Then the other students came in.

No one noticed there was a student with a new face walking in the classroom and putting a bottle of water on the teacher’s desk, and no one notice the student went out of the classroom. It was Amy who saw the bottle first and she took it. John did not have time to take it because at once Amy was out of the classroom. Then John suddenly asked himself, “What am I doing here? Why am I standing? Where am I?”

*       *       *

Amy had to go to the lockers again after she got changed. She opened the locker and the bottle rolled out again as she was taking the Chinese and Putonghua textbooks. There was no one around though. She suddenly noticed there was a sign on the bottle. She went for the bottle but she did not know where it had rolled. Getting annoyed with it, she just closed the locker and went away.

The bottle was behind the lockers. The water inside had turned into green. There was a haunting face, throwing out a wicked grin.

When Amy was in her homeroom again, she put down her books and sat down on her seat. Her eyes were heavy and she let them close for a while. When she reopened them again, she found a bottle of water on the teacher’s desk. “That bottle looks familiar,” she thought. Then she realized that bottle was the one in her locker. There was the sign on it. Someone must have found it and taken it down. “Let me ask Ruby to see if it is hers first,” she thought as she remembered the bottle was in her locker. She took the bottle and she set off to find Ruby, but she could not find her until the bell had rung and they were inside the classroom. She turned and asked Ruby, showing her the bottle, “Is it yours?”

“Let me see… I’m afraid not. Mine is inside the school bag,” Ruby replied, showing Amy her bottle. Then she put it back into her bag.

“Then whose it is?” thought Amy curiously. She placed the bottle under her seat as there was no answer yet.

The bell for the Chinese lesson had rung when John realized the ball in his pocket. He took it out and stared at it. “Its white is beautiful,” thought John, examining it. Then Jasmine asked him to take the box with her. The box was very heavy, but John could hold it with one hand only, which scared Jasmine. Jasmine knew there was something strange about John lately, but she did not want to let the evil know she knew it possessed in John. She had to wait for the best time to kill it.

Accident

After recess was Chinese lesson. Everyone noticed John Chin was gone, but no one knew why, or no one paid much attention to it. Nelson was thinking of any possible reasons that John could disappear in such a short time without being seen going, but he could not think of any. So he decided to try his luck in the playground at lunchtime. He asked Gloria Ho to come as well. They were going to go at lunchtime.

Just after the lunchtime bell had rung, Amy went to ask who owned the bottle, and no one seemed to own that bottle. “Maybe it’s not our class’,” said Amy to herself. Then Ruby urged her to go to have lunch with her.

The Secret Task

During lunchtime John Fu did not go for lunch, for he was not hungry. He was hiding in the room until the door was locked. He took the bottle of water that was standing on the teacher’s desk and shook it gently. Soon the liquid inside changed from colourless to haunting green. A face was generating. Then John twisted open the bottle. The liquid flew up into the air, calling itself the Phantom of Green, as the Lord of White appeared at the back of the classroom. John, who looked not a little bit afraid, commanded the two souls to do some works. After they had gone, John spoke out aloud, “This is going to be my world.” The sentence was followed by horrifying chuckles.

Back to Last Friday

At lunchtime, when Gloria and Nelson had had their lunch, they were standing in the middle of the playground, wondering where they should go. They went to examine everywhere. Then accidentally, when Nelson stepped backward he stepped on that tile and there was a flash of light again, and within a second Nelson was gone. Gloria saw everything happen. She quickly went to examine that tile. She knelt down to touch that tile, and began to wonder why Nelson would be gone. Then she tried to walk backward toward that tile, as what Nelson had done. When she stepped on that tile, she suddenly felt herself flying across a black tunnel with a little dot of light at the end of the tunnel. It was enlarging every second. Soon the light overwhelmed her and she had to close her eyes. When she opened them again, she found Nelson standing next to her, looking at her.

They were standing in the school playground as before, but without anyone. The light was on, and there was total silence. Outside, the playground was dark with only one light to shine on it. Outside the school, every family in the buildings had turned on their lamp. Behind the buildings, the sky was black in colour. “What time is it now?” she thought. Then she looked at Nelson, whose face was as confused as hers. So she decided to go up the stairs. She signaled Nelson to follow her. There were classes having lesson. They walked past them without paying any notice. Then when they approached room 204, they found Eric Tang sitting inside the room with a girl with long hair. They noticed the broken fluorescent lamp at the back. Then they realized Eric was punished for breaking it on Friday. “Are we back to Friday now?” Gloria thought. Then she continued walking. They went back to the floor. Suddenly, they saw a figure flying across the basketball court. It was running toward them. But it did not stop and it passed them without halting. Then, suddenly they realized it was John Chin!

Up in the Hill

They turned to see why John was running at that high speed. Immediately they understood why he was running like that. There was a huge figure flying toward them. They did not wait to see what it was, because the size of it was enormous. They quickly ran after John at their highest speed. They caught up with him quickly. When John saw them, he was surprised, but he could make no sound at that time because he was running so hard.

They kept on running, and they found that the thing at their tail had never stopped chasing them. Soon they found that they had run up to a hill. The figure had disappeared. They could finally sigh with a relief. They sat down on a cube-shape stone. They could not make a sound within five minutes. Then, John went to explore the surroundings. He found that there was no light, but they could see things so clearly. He began wondering if the moon was that bright. But he could find no moon tonight. He then went to see if the light from the buildings below shot up to this level. But it was impossible.

Then, Nelson suggested going back home, so they started their return journey. They followed the food print on the floor. They walked and walked, but there seemed to be no new road. They started thinking if it was the same road as the one they had just walked a minute ago. Then, Gloria pointed out if the food print on the floor was theirs or someone else. Soon, they were in front of a cave. Instead of black in colour, there was yellow light shooting from inside. Nelson walked straight into it without thinking or waiting the other two. There was nothing they could do, so they just went in with Nelson. The wall of the cave was flat as the wall at home. No other colour could be seen in the cave except yellow, since the yellow light was strong. Everything was just like having a bath in a yellow solution. Nelson still did not stop and wait for them. He just kept on walking.

The inner they walked the space in the cave got bigger. They became smaller and smaller in the cave. They did not know where they were. But still they kept on walking. Maybe they could find out the exit at the other end of this cave.

Suddenly, the colour changed to green. The road began sloping downward. The ceiling was still higher and higher. Nelson was still walking and walking. He was increasing the speed. John and Gloria had to run to keep at the same speed as Nelson. Soon they were showering in the sunlight. They just came out when they were attacked. A creature jumped out from the bushes at the side. It had a lion head, a tiger body and four elephant legs. They were surprised more than shocked. It was such an interesting animal. They began to laugh. However, the creature came to attack them. It jumped forward, waving its paws. Gloria picked up some rocks and threw them to it. The two boys did the same. But this did not stop its attack. It was flying toward Gloria. Gloria fell over. She lay on the floor when the creature was on the top of her. She raised her arms to prevent serious damage when the creature jumped away. Gloria put down her arms, and the creature attacked her again. This time John ran forward to stop it attacking Gloria. It paid no attention to John. It headed for Gloria and jumped at her. She raised her arms again. This time, the creature was not only jumping away, but was bounced off. It fell to the ground. When it got up again, it escaped into the bushes.

They continued walking. They did not know how far they had walked. They could only see trees here and there. They did not know where to go. They were lost.

Suddenly the sky was painted with purple colour. They all raised their head, and the trees at the side disappeared. The cube-shape stone reappeared. It took them a total five minutes to understand where they were. Then they walked again, to find out where they were. They wanted to go home. But there was no road to go. They began to starve. They were thirsty and sleepy as well. Nelson sat on the stone in despair. Then strange things happened. The stone cracked open and there was white light from the stone. Then they felt that they were flying downward. Gloria screamed in vain. Then they became unconscious.

Back Again

When Gloria reopened her eyes. She found herself sitting at her seat. It was still Chinese lesson. John was still not here. Nelson was not here either. She did not know what had happened. Why only she could come back but not the other two, she did not know. But she had better paid attention to the teacher first.

When Nelson gained back his consciousness, he found himself standing on the playground. John was sitting, watching him. “Where are we?” asked Nelson. John told him that it was already a quarter past one on Monday. Then John went back to the classroom, leaving the confused Nelson standing wondering what was happening.

Through the Blackboard

“It is only one o’clock,” groaned Charlie Chan. “Why cannot time go faster?”

It was Monday, Day 6. It was a boring day. There was no special event today. That was why Charlie was groaning. Benny Ng replied at the back of the classroom, “Maybe you can finish the homework for me.”

“Do it yourself.” Charlie walked to pick up some chalk and drew something on the board. When Benny came out and put down some chalk he had found under his desk, Charlie cleaned the board. When he put down the duster, the board suddenly glowed. Then, he and Benny were pulled into the board by an unknown force. And they were lying on a piece of green land, unconscious.

Deattisaur

They were woken up a minute later by a dog that could speak. They were scared when the dog said ‘hi’ to them. Later when their hearts were not beating so fast, they learnt that the dog’s name was Phil. And they learnt that they were on Deattisaur. But they did not know why they were there. They asked how they could go back, and Phil replied that he did not know.

So they went to explore the plain. Phil said that he had something to do and was gone. Charlie and Benny walked up to a hill. There were many beautiful trees and flowers. Luckily they were not girls. Otherwise they would stay there for a few days. They walked past them without paying much notice. They walked up the hill slowly. They kept on walking. Benny was leading. They had walked to a place where when they looked back again, they could see the whole plain. It was a beautiful place. “Do you think we can have the class picnic here?” asked Benny dreamily.

“Oh! We don’t even know how to come here. How can we have the class picnic here?” Charlie pointed out. “Why would we ever be on this land called Deattisaur? Can you remember what had happened when we were in the classroom?” Benny shook his head. Then, in a splint second Benny’s head hit the branch of a tree and losing his balance, he fell onto the ground. Then he rolled down the slope on their left hand side and Charlie shouted “no” continuously until he saw Benny’s rolling path was blocked by a tree and when Benny hit it he stopped rolling down and finally Charlie could sigh with a relief and started noticing that it was impossible to save Benny without going down to help him himself. However the trees could not hold Benny for too long so Charlie had to think fast and act fast. Since there was no simpler method to save him, he went down and got hold of Benny’s hands after sliding for a while. Benny managed to hold Charlie’s hand tightly so as not to drop more again. Although Charlie got hold of Benny, Benny started continued his sliding again because the tree that held Benny had broken and Charlie was pulled downward, too. In order not to slide more, Charlie used his legs to hook to a higher tree. It was difficult to pull Benny up, though at last Charlie managed to do so.

The Glowing Maze

After resting for a while, they set off again. There was only a little wound on Benny’s leg. They were lucky that there was no further injuring on their bodies. They walked carefully now, so as not to be in danger again.

They were walking when suddenly they found an entrance of a cave on their right hand side. Their curiosity pushed them inside to find out what was inside the cave. However, Benny pointed out that they had no torch or match to lit up the path and they might get into danger again. Charlie ignored him and got inside. Benny sighed, but he followed him inside.

They were soon in total darkness and they took each step forward slowly. They could not see anything around, not even their own hands. Then suddenly, there was a blinding light beaming on them. They could not see anything around yet because the light came in a sudden and they could not adapt to it yet. Then the light grew weaker and they could see the things around now. They found themselves in a narrow tunnel, which was enclosed by some white colour walls and the two ends were blocked by another walls. Then they knew they were in a maze. There was no light to be seen but the maze was well lit.

They had forgotten which way they came from. Their heads were spinning when the light blinded them. They were quarrelling about which way to go when they realized if they had separated, the probability to meet again was nearly zero. So they chose the way where they thought was the most possible was out to go. They turned left or right at every junction and they never came across a dead-end. They did not know if they were walking across the same road all the time because the walls and the floors were the same everywhere. They had walked not so far when they gave up. They were exhausted. They sat on the floor, sighing. Benny groaned, “How did we come here? And why there isn’t any way back?”

Safe?

They did not know what to do when they met Phil inside the maze. They could not help grinning when they saw him. He told them to follow him out of the maze. Phil turned left, left, right and then forward. Then right, left and right. And the glowing light went out and the tunnel became pitch dark again. They could not see Phil, but he kept talking so they could follow him without much problem. So finally they were showering in the sunlight again. However, Charlie stepped on something like a trap and he fell. He dropped to a place where Benny could not see any part of him. Benny began to panic. “Where is he? Where is Charlie?”

The dog fell into deep thinking. He just stood there as if some roots had grown from his feet to fasten him on the ground. Then suddenly he ran away from the place where Charlie had fallen into and Benny immediately screamed, “Where’re you going?”

Phil did not stop so Benny had to chase him. They were at the foot of the hill when Benny could catch up with Phil. Phil then ran through the wall and disappeared. “Where are you?” shouted Benny. Then he touched the wall and then he fell into the inside of the hill. Phil was waiting for him until he saw Benny was inside. He started to run again as Benny stood up quickly. The tunnel was not completely dark and there were many turnings. Luckily there was only one way to go so Benny could follow Phil without running into a wrong path. However, Benny fell onto the ground when he was running and his legs were hurt. Despite the pain he continued following Phil. Phil was nowhere to be seen now but Benny still ran forward.

When Benny saw Phil again he was with Charlie and they were running toward him. No, not toward him but the way which they had come from. Phil told Benny to run. Benny looked at the path that Charlie and Phil came from. It was disappearing. His legs were glued to the ground until the blackness of the disappearing path nearly reached him. He ran crazily back the way he had come. The blackness was an inch away when he was finally out of the tunnel and the sun was high above him again.

Road to 204

Benny saw Phil and Charlie sitting on the ground at the entrance and they were catching their breath. Later, when they got back their own shape Charlie told him how he escaped from falling. Phil was there in time to catch him behind he went further downward. And when he had landed safely, there was a deafening sound growing from below. Then a stream of black flames shot from below. Charlie’s watch had fallen into the darkness, but he had no time to pick it because of the chasing flame. It was destroying the path so he and Phil had to run for their life. Fortunately at last, they had come to peace.

They walked back to where they first met Phil and there they found a glass-like-curtain. Phil told them it was the time paradox and they might get back to their world if they went through it. And Benny and Charlie did so, and they fell out from the blackboard, and saw Liven Law watching them falling out, and she was laughing.

The Watch

Charlie’s watch was not destroyed. It had fallen into the darkness which was a time paradox too, which was connected to the ceiling of the hall. The ghost Zugo found it and picked it up, and felt the strength came from the watch which hurt him. It was so painful that he had to throw it away. The watch was lying on the silent floor, waiting for something to happen.

Aliens

The room was not very crowded when Amy was back in the room. She saw the duster on the floor and so she put it back on the bar of the blackboard. Then she saw the bottle again. She began to feel angry. “Why would the bottle always in sight? If it doesn’t belong to anyone, I’d better throw it away.” She picked up it and threw it into the bin. Then she headed for the lockers again.

When she was back again, she saw Benny and Charlie breathing rapidly on their seat, and Liven was sitting on her seat doing homework. There was no one else in the room. Amy was back on her seat when she gasped. She could not help shivering and she was wet with her sweat. The bottle was standing on her desk again. “Why doesn’t it go away!” she cried, as Benny and Charlie turned to ask what was happening. She told them everything. But, to her surprise, Benny said he did not see anything on her desk, and so she gazed back to the desk as she gasped again. The bottle had disappeared. She looked for it around, but it was nowhere to be seen.

*       *       *

The bell had just rung when the electricity in room 204 went out. The blinds shot down one by one. The students sat by the window, Eric Yu, David Tam and Roy Lai, quickly jumped up and stood next to the second row from the window. The window facing the corridor was being painted with a black marker that was moving by itself. Soon the room was filled with darkness. Some students began to panic. Somebody thought it was funny so they laughed. The others were all very confused only.

Most of the students were standing now. John Chin, Nelson and Stephen were standing next to the door. Mandy and Suki were talking next to their seat. Victor, Jasmine and Andy leaning on the notice board at the back of the room. Alan was sitting, playing his stationary. Cathy had gone to the back to stay with Catherine and Vicky. They were chatting with John Fu, Benny and Charlie. Brian was sitting next to Peter, seeing him playing his game boy. Gloria was talking to Amy Li behind the teacher’s desk. Christy and Himmy were arguing about something, when Queenie came joining them. David Wong was heading for Peter to talk to him. Cynthia was sitting on Sibi’s seat and playing with Ruby and Amy Fung. Carrie was standing next to them with Sibi. Karen, Winkie, Roy Li, Roy Lai, Eric Tang, Eric Yu and King were standing next to the blackboard and shouting happily. Aileen was saying hi to David Tam, who was playing with Heinz on the other side. No one seemed to notice the danger that was coming.

Outside the room, there were a few tens of 2-metre-tall aliens with 3 eyes and 5 hands gathering. They were waiting for their leader to give the order to invade the classroom. Soon one alien came up from the rear staircases and told the aliens to get inside to tie up all the pupils inside.

At once the aliens rushed in the classroom. Nobody was not screaming or shrieking or shouting or shivering. These were the most terrible creatures they had ever seen in their life. With the high efficiency of the aliens, all the students were soon tied up.

Four of the creatures guarded the four corner of the room. One of the creatures stepped out. It did all the talking. Clearly it was their leader. “You are all going to be executed.” At once panicking started. The creature shouted for quietness. “Who makes a noise will be killed first!” This sentence was much more affective than the first one. Everyone immediately stopped murmuring. They did not know what was the reason that they were going to be killed. They were hoping their life could last longer. Even 1 more minute might be enough. Everyone remembered the word “Doomsday” now. They were doomed…

The Amazing Sibi

Kneeling at the back of the room, Sibi suddenly muttered something that was not Chinese nor English nor Putonghua. The nearest creature heard her and reacted within a second. It held up one of its massive hands and shot it toward Sibi. Cleverly Sibi hid herself under a desk and the hand could not reach her. Carrie wanted to ask her what she had done but she dare not. Quickly the leader standing in front of the blackboard asked the creature that attacked Sibi what had happened, and the alien told its leader something in an alien language. That seemed to irritate the leader because it broke the teacher’s desk with a heavy thrust. Then it threw two of its tentacles toward Sibi. Then, the electricity returned to the light and there were extra yellow shooting from the corridor. Painful shriek could be heard inside. Before anyone, including the aliens, knew what was happening, there was an angel flying into the room and cut the two hands, which were racing toward Sibi, of the leader. Then there were more angels floating in and they were ready to help the students to fight against the aliens. The students knew they were angels because of the wings at the back of the bodies and the glowing yellow rings above the heads of them. Then Amy Fung, Cynthia, Ruby and Carrie turned to stare at Sibi when she muttered to herself that they had finally come.

        “What’s the matter?” Sibi whispered.

Her question was replied with several answers. “How do you know they are coming?”

“Are you the one who asked them to come?”

        “Who are you?”

Then one of the angels reported to Sibi something in another alien language. “Aitingway orfay ouryay orderay, adammay.”

Right after he had finished lots of creatures rushed into the room. The angels immediately turned and started to fight them. All the students stepped to the back of the classroom. A war between the Devil and the Angel had started.

Battle of the Black and White

There were more aliens in the room than angels now. It was difficult to fight now. The angels had two hands to fight while each of their opponents had five tentacles to sweep across the room. There were a few sentences before the battle started.

The first one was from the leader of the aliens. “Sgnih truok cab tego tere he raew. S seni sub rouy foe non siti. Ya weht fotuo tegos. Tergerl liwuo yro.”

The second one was from Sibi. “Eway areay erehay otay rotectpay hetay tudentssay, anday heytay areay innocentay. Iay oday otnay hinktay ouyay avehay hetay orrectcay uspectsay. Ifay ouyay urthay anyoneay ofay hemay, oday otnay egbay orfay ouryay ifeyay.”

The third one was the reply of the leader of the aliens. “Det never peb ton na craw sih tos.” And at once the aliens threw themselves forward to attack. The angels did not step back. Instead they flew up and cast some spells to defence.

From the general view the angels must be the loser. However, there were more in the angels than you could imagine. Although there were 50 creatures inside the room and there were only 6 angels to fight them, the angels were taking the advantage side. There were many different colours of flames shooting out from the angels to kill the aliens. The room was shining as if there was a firework on show. The five tentacles of the leader of the aliens were all cut though they kept growing out again. However, the aliens were much slower than the angels and soon there were only 3 of the aliens that were left alive. The angels tied them up.

Sibi was questioning them when suddenly there was another person dashing into the classroom. Everyone turned their attention at her at once, and gasped.

It was Liven, who looked irritated.

The Final Negotiation

“Oh! Liven, where have you been?” asked someone.

She did not reply, and she said something strange in a very low voice, “Sibi, why it is you?”

“I have never thought that it is you either,” answered Sibi, standing up. All the angels flew to the back of Sibi, and the other students were just leaning backward. There was a strange expression on Liven’s face, and the same on Sibi’s. They stared at each other without speaking for about 5 minutes, when the horrifying silence overwhelmed the classroom. A potential fight could be sensed. Nobody dared to speak. Then a series of unknown language was broken out.

“Hyway idday ouyay antway otay illkay hetay holeway lasscay?” It was Sibi who broke the silence first.

Liven’s reply was “Sleg naeth fore daeleht sioh wenoe mossie reht tuod nuo fi.”

“Osay ouyay avehay otay urdermay allay hetay tudentssay erehay? Isay itay ecessarynay?”

“Don’t you know that how important the planet 344 is to us? It is where we are born!” Then, there was finally some English.

“Hey! That is our home at the very first place!” Sibi demanded.

“But you had left and there was no one else on the planet before we immigrate there. And there weren’t any facilities on the planet, and it was us who built the planet again! And you just came and attack us and then just said, ‘It is our planet. Go away.’ Is that reasonable? We’re just here to get our revenge!” Liven was terribly angry.

“But you don’t have to execute the whole class, do you? They are innocent!” Sibi protested.

But then in a sudden the electricity went out again. Sibi and Liven both looked very confused. Clearly it was not one of their plans. Then the floor cracked open and Liven fell into the crack. Sibi rushed forward to save her at once. The others just opened their eyes wide, extremely confused. Sibi paid all her effort to pull Liven up to the floor. Then the electricity returned. The crack was at least 2 meters wide.

After Liven and Sibi caught back their breath, Liven whispered, “We just want to get back the things that belongs to us.”

“But will you promise that you won’t hurt anyone here in this room? We’re here to protect them only, not because of you,” said Sibi in a low voice.

Liven turned and looked around. There were many corpses of the aliens that were in the race as hers. That was a sad thing to see. So finally she vowed, “All right. I’ll make them go away from the Earth. But you have to return planet 344 to us.”

“Deal.” There was a grin on Sibi’s face.

“And thanks for saving me, my friend,” Liven lowered her head when she said this.

“I won’t let you die in that way, despite our position in the world,” Sibi said next to Liven’s ear. Then they shook hands, and Liven got up to her feet, and signalled the 3 aliens to go. Sibi threw a glance at the angels, and they float out the windows and were gone.

There was a mess in the classroom, but Liven and Sibi cleaned it themselves. Their secrets of being the leaders of the aliens and the angels were out now, and everyone in school knew what had happened in room 204. Sibi and Liven would never get a quiet life again.

After the Battle of Black and White

Experienced in the battle of Black and White that afternoon, everyone in class was exhausted. John thought it would be the best time to take the class under control. However, he was anxious about how powerful Sibi and Liven had possessed. They might be very strong, he did not know yet. He had to test them.

*       *       *

When everything was settled down and the students had calmed down, Amy saw the bottle again in John Fu’s hand. He was muttering something to his two hands, with one holding the bottle and the other holding something small. He noticed her gaze.

“What are you looking at?” he asked in a kind voice, his usual voice.

“You’re so weird. I’m wondering if the bottle’s yours.” The words just slipped out from Amy’s mouth. She did not know why she would say something like that.

“What makes you think I’m acting weird?”

“You’re talking to the bottle.” She pointed at his hand with the bottle.

“Well, it’s not mine. Is it yours?” He handed the bottle to her.

“No.” She was so happy that the bottle could leave her.

“Oh, do you know whom it belongs to then?”

        “No.”

“Then I just put it outside.” He walked to the teacher’s desk and put the bottle down.

*       *       *

Not trusting John Fu, Amy Fung told Sibi that she had seen the strange bottle of water, thinking Sibi would be able to help her. Sibi replied that she had noticed the bottle as well but she reckoned John should be innocent although he had been acting strangely recently, but that needed further observation. There was nothing else Amy could do, though.

*       *       *

Charlie and Benny had decided it was unwise not to join John, so they went to help him. John was delighted and Charlie and Benny were asked to keep everything secret. “Things are getting easier and easier,” thought John, grinning.

*       *       *

Aileen was wondering why John had changed that much when she had totally forgotten John had found the ball. She was very sad about that. She was desperate to know the answer to the question why John had changed a lot, as the whole class was wondering.

*       *       *

It was Mathematics lesson now, and everyone was listening to Mr Hui’s teaching. Jasmine stole a glance at John to see if he was doing something else, but he was paying all his attention to the teacher while one of his hands was supporting his head and the other just lay on the table quietly. “Maybe he is thinking of some plans to overtake the class,” thought Jasmine, as she argued herself, “He might succeed in fighting against that soul that is inside him.” That was why Jasmine did not show any movement yet, so as not to catch the evil’s attention.

John was not doing anything because he had asked Benny to do the first thing for him. He asked him to write a few sentence to test Sibi’s strength. Benny was writing now, as Christy sitting next to him thought he was doing his classwork because she had trouble in doing them. Benny wrote down that, “You’re very great just then. I did not know there is so much power possesses in you. Can you show me some of it after school?” Then he passed the paper to Karen and Amy Fung to hand to Sibi.

Charlie had written something similar to Liven, too, as he was asked to do. He handed the paper to Cathy, who was doing her work unhappily, to give it to Liven. Liven received it and after she had a glance of it she threw it away. Then she continued to do the work.

When Sibi received the paper Mr Hui saw that and Sibi was moved to sit next to Peter, who had been John Chin’s neighbour and he had been moved behind King, who was sitting in a row next to the door. Sibi packed all her things and she moved to the seat before she read the paper. She did not keep it secret as she did not know what it was about and Peter read that too. Peter asked her to show some of her power now and she refused. She was thinking why Benny would ask her to do something like that, except…

Amy had seen Benny writing that note. And she knew it was sent to Sibi. There was something weird about Benny, because he wrote it after he had a glance around the class. He was doing it mysteriously. Amy wanted to ask Sibi what he had written but Sibi had been moved. Sighing, she vowed she must found it out herself.

Then the bell rang, as Aileen, Amy, Benny, Charlie, Jasmine, John Fu, Liven and Sibi started their works.

Defeat of the Phantom of Green

Just after Mr Hui had gone, the door was closed, locked. Most of the classmates were still inside the room, except some had gone before Mr Hui.

Benny and Charlie had gone to Sibi and Liven respectively right after Mr Hui had left. Benny was asking Sibi to show it to him and Liven was ignoring Charlie. John Fu was sitting at the back to see the four of them.

Some of the classmates groaned that the door was old and out of order, but it was actually the invisible Phantom of Green pulling the door from outside. Some students shouted to their friends in the neighbour class to find someone from the office to open the door. Some of them help pushing from outside and pulling inside but the Phantom of Green was stronger than anyone else, even though there were four of them pushing and pulling.

Jasmine saw that, and she cast a spell on the door to open it. This force was stronger than the Phantom of Green, and he was pulled inside the room with some other students outside who was helping to push. John noticed the door had opened, and he quickly made it close again as he was wondering why the Phantom of Green was weaker than four students. Then lots of the 3D students headed for the door when John Fu shouted from the back to make the door close and the classroom dark. Everything was silent, except the closing of the door, and the locking sound.

“You’re not going to leave the classroom,” he shouted slowly and clearly, in a voice which no one else had heard from him before, “until you’re willing to help me!”

Then the Phantom of Green became visible laying on the floor, and lots of the students screamed for help until John shouted over them, “Who makes one more sound will suffer horribly!” He beamed on every student in the room furiously. Then silence was remained in the room.

Suddenly, John shivered and he felt to the ground and Benny and Charlie quickly went to him. Before they reached him he was sitting upward again as every eyes were on him. He asked whisperingly, in a voice which was the original John Fu, “Where am I?”

In a split second Jasmine picked up the laying Phantom of Green and took him outside and Amy took the bottle and went after her. They were outside the classroom and Amy twisted open the bottle and Jasmine used magic to force the Phantom of Green back into the bottle and used another spell to seal the cover. The Phantom of Green was screaming inside the bottle and Jasmine put it into her bag, as John Fu was lying unconscious inside the room.

A Worse Situation

The next morning John was the first one back into school. He took out the white plastic ball and he decided to throw it away, as he was overtaken again as Benny and Charlie entered the room. John signalled them to come as Benny and Charlie were wondering if this John was the original John or the new one. But once John made a sound they were sure that he was not the original one.

“Today we’ll have an invasion,” he started. “We’re going to force all the classmates to be in our side this morning. That won’t be difficult. Once the bell that will ring at half past eight has rung, the Lord of White will help us blacken all windows and the lights will go out. Then we’ll make the class quiet. Whoever makes a sound, we’ll beat him or her up. I’m sure this is the most efficient way to persuade them to be in our side. You two will help me to make them quiet while I talk to them. That’s today’s plan.” Then John laughed in a high-pitch chuckle. Benny and Charlie took a fast beam at one another with worried eyes.

*       *       *

Later that morning, when Jasmine was back at school, she found the classroom was surprisingly quiet. Everyone was speaking in a whisper. She looked around the room, and she noticed John was back but he was nowhere to be seen. Then she was gone to the lockers.

Vicky and Winkie were chatting on the corridor when Aileen passed. She overheard them talking about something like Vicky had a beautiful white ball at home when Aileen suddenly realized the white plastic ball that John had found. “He’s keeping it. Is it the reason that he’s changed that much? Maybe I can ask him,” she thought, as she started heading for John but she skidded to a halt after walking for a few steps. “No, he’s not himself. How could I ask him now?”

Jasmine was walking back to the classroom when she met Aileen who gave her a 3-second hi. Recalling the memories with Jasmine, Aileen suddenly remembered Jasmine knew magic. Maybe she knew how to cure John! Excited she ran after Jasmine who had just approached the door of the classroom and Aileen told her she had something to talk to her. Jasmine went to put down her books and went out to meet Aileen again.

        “What’s matter?” Jasmine asked.

“Something about John Fu,” whispered Aileen. “You must have noticed how much John has changed since last Friday.” Jasmine nodded slightly. “That day when we, John and I, were inside this room,” -Aileen pointed at her homeroom- “where were haunting voices John had found a white plastic ball in the desk of the second row from the window, the fourth seat, but when I asked him what he had found, he replied me there was nothing. At that time I started suspecting him. But he should not be like that, you know. He’s a classmate that you would like to have. You must help him, Jasmine. You must help him.”

“Yes, I will,” relied Jasmine after thinking for a few seconds. “But it’s not the right time. He is fighting hard with the evil possessed in him now, but the evil is too strong for John to get rid of. Maybe later, when he grows stronger, I’ll be able to help him.”

*       *       *

The bell had rung for the first lesson, and John gave a meaning glance at Charlie and Benny. Then, as planned, the windows at the two sides were suddenly blackened as the lights went out without any announcement. The class began panicking, but they dared not to make a sound. John was grinning when the Lord of White appeared. Somebody started to scream but John shouted at her to shut up. Within half a minute, there was silent again. Then John came out to the teacher’s desk with the Lord of White walking after him.

John told them to help him to conquer the world. It seemed that it was an impossible task but they could succeed if they help him. He also told them that they would be treated well if they help him, otherwise they would suffer worse than death. And he said nothing was impossible to do since he was the Lord of 204.

Sitting at the back of the room, Jasmine thought grimily, “Couldn’t John be stronger to fight back the evil?” And she had to kill the Lord of White now, before getting rid of the evil in John.

Meanwhile John was asking who did not want to help him, and of course no one would dare putting up his or her hands. There was a devilish smile on his face and he muttered something to the Lord of White, when Jasmine knew she had better killed the Lord of White now. At the other end of the room Jasmine met Aileen’s stare. Her eyes were filled with hope and wishes. Jasmine gave a nod to her.

The Lord of White was disappearing when there was a stream of pink flame shot from the back of the room hit him. In reaction he appeared again and he was stuck to the blackboard for a while. Then he shot back again. There was a white light coming out from him toward the back of the room, but he was shooting at Eric Yu, the opposite side of Jasmine. Eric ducked, and he shouted, “It’s not me who shot you!” There were several replies to his sentence. Benny and Charlie turned and stared at him while John jumped up as if wanted to fly to beat him. At once Eric apologized in a murmur, “Sorry.”

There were three more streams aiming at the Lord of White, both from the second row from the door. One was black, one was white and one was pink. They all hit the Lord of White and he shrieked and he vanished. Most of the students were cheering when John began to fight back.

The Ruined Ball

John roared. Then he shot three purple beams out at the back of the room, and there were three explosions. All the students at the back had to duck and some of them hid under the desk. Then Jasmine retreated him two pink streams but missed. Liven shot out a black light and hit the teacher’s desk and the desk was divided into two pieces. Sibi aimed at John and shot a white ray at him, and it hit him and he rolled on the ground. Then he groaned, “Don’t hit me! Don’t hit me!” The voice belonged to the original John. His hands were up protecting his head.

Peter went out to see if he was all right. In a split second John sat up and got hold of Peter’s throat and used him as a hostage. John shouted, “Don’t go any forward! I’ll hurt him!” Peter was growling.

Jasmine stood up and said, “Don’t hurt him! He’s innocent.” She was stalking John, closer and closer.

John was stepping back. “Don’t go any further! I’ll really hurt him!”

Then suddenly Aileen kicked him from his back and he fell to the ground as Peter was released and when he left he gave John a punch. Aileen saw the plastic ball rolling out from John’s pocket and John fell unconscious. Aileen wanted to pick that up but Jasmine stopped her. Jasmine cast one of the spells to damage the ball. There was a shrieking voice from the ball when Jasmine made a fire to burn it and it bounced off the fire, but Peter kicked it back into the fire and it gave out a painful scream. Then everything fell silent. The fire died down. There was the blackened ball left on the floor.
