The Landmark /
Statue Square / City Hall
Central is a major business and political centre in Hong Kong and is
full of commercial buildings, and up market shopping malls like the
Landmark where you can find many famous worldwide boutiques.
The handover of Hong Kong passed several years ago, but we still
have a lot of colonial features in Central, of which Statue Square
and the Legislative Council Building, a declared monument, are
examples. The streets around Statue Square are designated for
pedestrians only on public holidays, providing a good location for
outdoor functions. The square is also a meeting venue for foreign
maids on weekends and public holidays.
After the opening in 1962, the City Hall opposite Statue Square has
already passed its 40th anniversary. In this period, thousands of
local and overseas arts groups have performed at the Concert Hall,
the Theatre and the Recital Hall. Other facilities in the City Hall
include committee rooms, an exhibition hall and a marriage registry.
You can also enjoy "Hong Kong Infrastructure Experience"
in Hong Kong Planning and Infrastructure Exhibition Gallery next to
the City Hall. The gallery comprises four main sections: Town
Planning, Tourism, Transport and Logistics, and Environmental
Protection. (The gallery is closed on Tuesdays except public
holidays)
