Leonardo da Vinci (Italian, 1452-1519)
Leonardo was born in a city called Vinci, it was located in the central Italy. He is a example of a "Renaissance man". Because he knew much abort painting, sculpture, engineering, architecture and poetry. He filled thousands of notebooks with his sketches and ideas.

Leonardo's most famous painting, Mona Lisa, is a portrait of a woman called Lisa, who was the wife of a rich noble from Florence.

For the last three years of his life, Leonardo went to live at the court of the French king, Francis I, where he was honoured as a genius. He took Mona Lisa with him. That's why we can find the painting in the Louvre museum in Paris.
