PERSONALITY
ˇ@

The
anatomy of personality has three basic structures: id, ego, and superego.
The
id refers to the primitive, instinctive and inherited aspects of personality.
It lacks organization and is blind and insistent. Moreover, it
functions
to discharge tension immediately and return to a homeostatic condition.
The
ego seeks to express the desires of the id in accordance with the constraints
imposed by the outside world. It governs controls and regulates the
personality. It also mediates between the instincts and the surrounding environment.
The
superego is the last component of personality to be developed and represents
an internalized version of societyˇ¦s norms. It functions to inhibit
the id impulses and then strive for perfection.
