Mobile School Information System (MSIS)
Background
Number of students of HKIVE(TY) is continuously increasing in the recent
years, causing problems of lack of free computer facilities for students.
The wireless network of HKIVE(TY) has been well-developed but the using
rate is low because only notebooks can access to it.
Student Portal Service (SWS) currently serves for full-time students
only, part-time students reflected difficulties on accessing data like
personal profile and timetables as a full-time student.
Why MSIS?
Shares the workload of computer facilities as well as improves the using
rate of the well-developed wireless network by providing SWS-like services
to both full-time and part-time students.
Helps teachers to manage classes and communicate with students by
providing services such as news publication, timetable searching, and so
on.
Caters to the wide-use of wireless devices.
Objectives
Provides application for administrator to maintain MSIS through the
Internet.
Provides application for teachers and students to access functions of
MSIS through their wireless device supporting J2ME such as Palm, which is
chosen to be the default platform for demonstration.
